?
Yarin's POV:
I only felt the anxiety in my heart grow stronger and stronger. With every word Karter said, I became more irritable. Finally, I couldn't help but rush toward him.
"Stop talking to yourself! Go to hell!"
Karter didn't dodge, didn't dodge, and allowed me to attack. The sharp glass penetrated his abdomen, but he did not react as if he felt no pain.
"Oh, look at me. I almost forgot that there's a child here." He reached out and pulled out the glass of his abdomen, and black blood gushed out. "We scared him, didn't we? The poor little wolf cub's tail was standing on end."
The way he addressed me made my hair stand on end. Perhaps it was just a human's way of addressing werewolves, but when I was young, my relatives and friends used to call me that. This made me inexplicably feel that his words had a hidden meaning.
"Don't be afraid, child. I'm sorry our methods were a little rough, but I'm sure you'll be grateful for this in the end. You'll be extremely honored by your sacrifice."
At this moment, he seemed to be talking to me. I suddenly understood why I felt strange just now. It was because Karter's attitude and words weren't directed at me.
But apart from us, was there a third person with consciousness here?
I felt a cold sensation on my calf. I looked down and saw that blood had dyed my pants red.
It was Karter's blood. The liquid moved completely unnaturally as if it had a mind of its own. It spread toward a single target, and that was me.
I had already tried to shake it off, but even if I melted myself, I couldn't get rid of this black blood. Once it touched me, it would firmly hold on to me. Soon, the black membrane covered a small part of the pale pink flesh.
"What the hell is this?!" I roared and charged at Karter. The black blood was like the last straw that broke the camel's back. My rationality had utterly disappeared. I only wanted to tear Karter into pieces and grind every inch of his flesh and bones into meat paste.
Karter still didn't dodge, allowing me to beat him up. More blood gushed from his mouth and nose, eventually splattering on me.
His tongue had been cut open by his teeth, so his words were muffled, but he still maintained a stiff smile.
"So you're so impatient. Cough, haha... Don't worry. It'll be done soon. It'll be done soon. It's our honor to sacrifice ourselves for him..."
I gave up all my weapons and punched him hard. My only thought in my anger was to crush him into meat paste.
A drop of blood splattered into my eye, causing me to feel a sharp pain. This pain finally allowed me to regain some of my rationality. My blurry vision gradually became clear. The first thing I saw was the blood on my fist.
It almost dyed my hands completely black. My wrists, forearms, elbows, and shoulders were all dyed black.
I lowered my head and saw that my clothes had been filled with blood at some point. They were sticky and laid on my body. Black blood was seeping into my skin through them, causing a cold feeling as if I was in an iceberg.
Something was wrong.
I let go of Karter, who was on the verge of death, and stumbled backward. I tried to wipe the blood off my body, but it seemed to have penetrated deep into my skin. I couldn't wipe it off, no matter what.
I tried to remove my clothes again, but it immediately brought me a tearing pain. Through the gap in my collar, I was shocked that many slender tentacles had grown from my clothes. They were deeply rooted in my skin and moved like a pump, injecting black blood into my body.
This strange feeling was driving me crazy. I couldn't care less about the pain and struggled to break these tentacles. However, once I broke them, more would be born. The speed at which I broke them couldn't keep up with the rate at which they regenerated.
"Ah, time's up. He's here."
The ragged Karter stood up stiffly like a puppet and spoke with a smile. Even though his lips were rotten and his teeth had fallen out, his smile seemed glued to his face.
"What do you mean 'time's up'? Who's coming?" I looked at him in anger and panic and asked.
"You don't know who is coming?" Karter asked. "After seeing such a big lineup, little prince, I don't think you don't have any guesses. You're a very smart child."
Yes, he was right.
I couldn't lie to myself anymore.
A dwarf who was so willing to die and Karter being willingly beaten up without fighting back. They had the same black blood, vague nonsense. And I was feeling increasingly irritable, fearful, and uneasy.
The Lily of the Valley did not ask for a ransom or other conditions. What were they trying to do?
Now, it seemed that the answer was about to be revealed.
"... An evil god," I muttered. "Everything you did was actually for an evil god... All of this is just a sacrifice..."
"You guessed right!" Karter laughed out loud. "Guess who the sacrifice to my lord is?"
More and more tentacles appeared. In the end, I even felt that they replaced my skin and flesh.
I stopped struggling. Deep despair stopped me from moving.
"It's... It's me."
