?Chapter 895: Chapter 546: Accidents Wait for No One Chapter 895: Chapter 546: Accidents Wait for No One Yu Fei received another Thanksgiving gift that would undoubtedly change his future life.
The next morning, Yu Fei was working out in his home gym when a security guard informed him that his girlfriend, Elizabeth Olsen, had arrived.
Yu Fei’s first reaction was, “So she’s here, it’s not like I have anything to hide in my house anyway.”
“She doesn’t look so good.”
the security guard reminded.
So, Yu Fei stopped his training to see her.
On the way, he suddenly thought, “Olsen should be in class at the university, why did she suddenly come to Seattle?”
But he was quite happy until Olsen seriously sank her teeth into his shoulder when they met.
She fiercely bit Yu Fei and said, “This is what you deserve!”
Ignoring the teeth marks on his shoulder, Yu Fei was about to ask why when Elizabeth shockingly said, “I’m pregnant.”
Now wouldn’t it be clever yet risky to ask “Whose child is it?” in front of this conservative and agitated woman?
Yu Fei felt some turbulence inside, but it was nothing like the joyous frenzy seen in TV dramas when men learn their partners are pregnant. He just felt, this day had finally come.
Considering the 95% effectiveness of condoms, and after many years without “winning,” Yu Fei was not surprised at suddenly hitting the jackpot.
“What are you planning to do?”
Yu Fei suddenly felt a bit nervous.
He was apprehensive about becoming a father and worried that Elizabeth might, like some typical Hollywood women who prioritize career and future, feel it wasn’t a good time to have a child, suggesting that the embryo could return from whence it came.
“I don’t know, Frye,” Elizabeth said, “I don’t know if I’m ready. I don’t know if this is good or bad for us. I don’t know if I could be a good mother, will the child take the name Olsen or Yu? I don’t even know if you would accept him.”
Gently, Yu Fei said, “You know Liz, four out of every ten NBA players come from single-parent families, me included. I know what that’s like, and I would never let my child go through the same thing.”
“You can stay in Seattle for now, take your time to think. Whatever you decide to do, I’ll face it with you.” Yu Fei felt for a moment like those playboys who toy with others’ feelings, but he truly felt this way.
Although initially uncomfortable, the anticipation of fatherhood was hard to resist once he came to terms with it.
He was about to turn 29. Roy’s kids could even play mahjong by now, and so could Brown’s. In his team, only Durant, that loser, was still not a father.
But Durant obviously had personal issues, whereas Yu Fei was trapped by his Playboy image.
Over the years, his inability to stay long with any woman meant that eventually, they would leave him due to a lack of security.
Before Elizabeth’s pregnancy, he hadn’t felt a lack of children was a problem, but now that it had happened, he also felt it was a good thing.
It could be a new chapter in his life.
That day, Yu Fei tweeted something intriguing: “At what age did you become a father/mother?”
Kwame Brown quickly responded: “Was a dad at 19, now the father of three daughters, anything you want to say, GOAT?”
“How does it feel to be a dad?”
Yu Fei actually started chatting with him.
Brown replied, “Do you think kittens and puppies are cute?”
Yu Fei countered, “Are those the same?”
Brown earnestly explained, “Our human affection for kittens and puppies stems from our protective instinct for babies; kids are the cutest beings in the world.”
Yu Fei didn’t know if that was an authoritative answer because he felt that while babies had their cute sides, they could also be annoying when they cried. Yet, the same was true with pets: adorable at times and really annoying at others.
Afterwards, Yu Fei decided not to overthink until Elizabeth made her decision.
If he got ready now, even thinking up a name for the child, and then Elizabeth decided not to keep the baby, wouldn’t that be devastating?
So things remained unresolved.
Elizabeth took a break from her studies and came to live with Yu Fei in Seattle. Apart from this change, his life essentially hadn’t changed.
It was currently the most intense part of the regular season.
In early December, the Supersonics faced a series of tough battles.
The first game of the month was an away game against the Dallas Mavericks, then onto San Antonio to play the Spurs in a second battle, back home to take on the Lakers, and then the League set them up with a fresh Christmas Day showdown—against the New Jersey Nets.
It’s safe to say, the Supersonics had the most difficult December schedule.
In terms of strength, the Mavericks belonged to the second tier of the Western Conference, not as talented as the top three.
However, they had one advantage: they could put forth a strategy of playing one big and having one drive and three shooters.
With Nowitzki in the middle, three shooters on the perimeter, and Tony Parker driving, the shooters would be effective if they got hot, and they could compete physically with anyone.
The Supersonics, having the advantage in the frontcourt, were shot dead by the Mavericks’ perimeter shooting.
Tonight, Yu Fei was matched up against Nowitzki on both offense and defense. Although he couldn’t stop the opponent, he performed better in protecting the rim and rebounding. When he drove the ball forward, the opponent’s defense seemed useless, but the Mavericks’ three-pointers were deadly when they got hot.
