Chapter 76 - 76 76 Ships
Chapter 76 - 76 76 Ships
?76: Chapter 76: Ships 76: Chapter 76: Ships “It seems the defenses aren’t very tight?
Should we storm in?”
Zhou Qian tried asking.
Lin Zinuo’s expression changed for a moment, and finally, he ordered, “Go!”
Su Mo and the others lifted their QBZ-171 rifles and began to fire.
Bang bang!
Zombie after zombie fell in response as they charged towards the gate.
In just a few minutes, Su Mo and his team had breached the defenses and entered the base, where there were very few zombies gathered.
They were shot down in no time.
Su Mo carefully surveyed his surroundings; there were few buildings inside the base, just a few structures.
However, there was a recessed docking bay in the central area, where an old ship was moored all alone.
“It’s a ship!”
Zhou Qian exclaimed with delight.
Su Mo glanced briefly and could roughly tell that the ship was likely an old model nearing decommission.
However, if renovated, it could still be valuable.
He remembered Zi Qing mentioning that Group Twelve didn’t have ships, only a few fishing boats.
Zhou Qian and a few others were excited and started to rush towards it.
“Wait.”
Lin Zinuo calmly stopped Zhou Qian and the others.
“Sister Zinuo, it’s a ship, let’s go check it out quickly.”
Zhou Qian and the others stopped, addressing Lin Zinuo.
“What’s the rush?
Let’s explore this base bit by bit, clear all potential safety hazards, and then head to the ship.”
Lin Zinuo said calmly.
“Alright.”
Zhou Qian gradually calmed down.
Su Mo’s opinion of Lin Zinuo increased; being able to serve as deputy leader certainly required talent.
They then headed towards the nearest building.
Over an hour later, Su Mo and his team had swept through the small base; there really weren’t many zombies.
It seemed that the original personnel had left, leaving only a few to guard.
In the buildings of the base, there wasn’t much except in a warehouse where they found some ship parts.
They also found various types of fuel, including fuel for Mechas.
After confirming there was no danger, Zhou Qian could hardly restrain herself and suggested,
“Sister Zinuo, can we go check out that ship now?”
Lin Zinuo nodded and responded,
“Let’s go.”
“That’s great!”
The joy on the faces of Zhou Qian and the others was unmistakable.
So the group excitedly ran towards the harbor, and as they neared the beach of the harbor,
“Stop!”
Su Mo suddenly raised his hand and gestured with a low voice.
Zhou Qian and the others were startled and quickly raised their weapons, scanning the surroundings; a faint breeze blew by with no sign of any enemy.
“Su Mo?”
Lin Zinuo looked at Su Mo, puzzled.
“Look at the beach.”
Su Mo’s gaze grew more serious.
The group looked and saw two huge, wheel-like indentations depressed into the smooth sand.
“What is this?”
Lin Zinuo and the others frowned slightly.
“It must be traces left by some kind of monster,”
Su Mo explained.
“But haven’t we already searched the entire base and seen no suspicious monsters?
Could it be on this ship or nearby?”
Zhou Qian and the others spoke, their expressions growing somewhat uneasy, as she had already made a careless mistake once before.
“It’s hard to say,”
Su Mo replied indifferently.
“Let’s check out that ship first.”
Lin Zinuo tried to calm his emotions as much as possible.
Soon, Su Mo and the others arrived in front of that old warship.
They didn’t rashly board it, instead they carefully observed it from all around.
The warship was about 60 meters long and 10 meters wide, with a draft depth of over two meters.
From the surface, the ship sported a 76mm naval gun and four 7.62 machine guns, but the internal structure was unclear, and its hull was covered in rust.
“It seems pretty decent.”
Lin Zinuo took a brief look and did not find any obvious damage.
“This ship, I estimate it’s not very heavy, probably around 700 tons or so.
This class of ship would likely be just an ordinary patrol ship given its severe aging, I doubt it would be of much use,”
contrarily, Su Mo wasn’t very optimistic.
“Really?”
Zhou Qian and the others were somewhat disappointed.
At that moment, Lin Zinuo spoke up, “No matter how poor this ship might be, it’s still better than those fishing boats our group has.
Let’s board and search the ship, eliminate any risks, and everyone be careful.”
“Okay!”
replied Zhou Qian and the others.
Then, Su Mo and a few others carefully boarded the warship.
“Don’t scatter,”
Lin Zinuo whispered softly as they walked.
Leveraging the faint light, they examined the bridge, living quarters, and the bottom engine and ammunition compartments methodically, not missing a single corner.
Surprisingly, there wasn’t a single zombie on the entire ship, let alone any large monsters.
Of course, they did find something- a corpse in the bridge.
At this time, Zhou Qian crouched down and was carefully examining the mummified body, which from the style and insignia on its uniform appeared to be an NCO.
Clearly much more advanced than the wandering soldiers they had previously encountered.
“Huh?”
While rummaging through its pockets, Zhou Qian suddenly touched something hard, and quickly pulled it out with a joyful expression.
A specially made metal key and a faded photo fell out.
Lin Zinuo bent down to pick up the key and the photo, with Su Mo and others gathering around.
The faded photo showed a stern-looking man holding a child of about ten, both beaming with bright smiles.
“This child couldn’t possibly be that poor kid, could he?”
Zhou Qian covered her mouth and said subconsciously.
“Probably, you can tell from the clothes on him,”
Lin Zinuo sighed with sadness.
Everyone fell into silence, indeed confirming their previous suspicion: the boy’s father had indeed died, which is why he hadn’t come home, leaving only his corpse on that vast ship.
Elsewhere, there were only copious amounts of blood; likely everyone else had perished, with not even bones remaining, indicating a brutal end.
He must have persevered, sailing back alone perhaps just to see his child one last time.
After his death, the direction he faced was toward Mist Town, underscoring his deep longing.
“Sister Zinuo, there seem to be words written on the back of this photo,”
Qin Wang said casually, prompting Zinuo to turn the photo over.
There, written in blood, were two words.
“Be careful!”
…
Upon seeing these words, everyone was slightly startled.
“What does this mean?”
Zhou Qian asked with a highly curious look.
“It must have been a warning to a companion, probably because there was some danger at the time.
There shouldn’t be anything now, considering he has been dead for so long,”
Lin Zinuo pondered, feeling somewhat uneasy upon seeing the words.
But considering that they had searched the entire base and the ship without finding anything unusual, she presumed all was well; one can’t always be unlucky.
“So, Sister Zhou Qian, this key?”
a companion inquired curiously.
“It should be the ship’s ignition key,”
Lin Zinuo said as she walked over to the control panel, where there indeed was a prominent slot.
She inserted the key, which fit perfectly without any discrepancy.
Suddenly, Lin Zinuo turned the key, but there was no response at all.
