Eighteen’s Bed

Chapter 23.1

Chapter 23.1

Sadly, it wasn’t any different for me than it was for Go Yohan. While Go Yohan had the option to take a leave of absence, I had practically wasted an entire semester. To make up for the grades I lost, I couldn’t afford to miss even one class or assignment.

And that’s how meeting Kang Suhyeon turned into hell.

I should’ve known when I saw the results of the midterm presentation. This guy was worse than a freeloading parasite. Especially during the second assignment, where Kang Suhyeon’s theory about first experiences honestly made me feel disgusted just hearing it.

“On the first day, of course, the best choice is a top-class hotel overlooking the city’s night view. A romantic night—at least for dinner, you should have a classy meal at the hotel restaurant, cutting meat and drinking wine. It would be nice if you’d known each other for two years. Two years feels just right for romance.”

Why two years, of all things? Without thinking, I scribbled the word “two years” on the A4 paper with the assignment on it and poked it with my pen. Kang Suhyeon, noticing that I was confused, said confidently,

“Well, one year is too short to really know each other, and three years is too long.”

“What’s wrong with that? There are people who get married a week after meeting.”

“That’s a special case. If it weren’t, would people be talking about such cases?”

That makes sense. I was convinced enough to close my mouth.

“After dinner, you exchange shy glances. Both of you are silently expecting something. Ah, I’m going crazy. At this point, the man should take the lead. Wanna go up? Aaaah! This is it.”

“You kidding me? It’s not even a drama.”

“The woman accepts, and they move stiffly into the transparent elevator to head to the room. And in that elevator, they feel the silence together…”

Kang Suhyeon closed his eyes as if he were the one experiencing it, rubbing his body with both hands. The sight was so disgusting, I felt like I might throw up. I turned my eyes away and threw my pen onto the desk. But Kang Suhyeon’s performance didn’t stop despite my obvious condemnation.

“Oh my God, babe! When did you prepare all this? Then the man says: I hurried up when you went to the bathroom to get this ready. I was so exhausted, I thought I was gonna die.”

“Wait, how did you have time to go all the way up to the hotel and set up candles in just a few minutes?”

“Shh, it’s literary license.”

“….”

“The professor is a very progressive person. He doesn’t want the rigid reports based on statistics, okay? He’ll be expecting a romantic and fun plan. But does romantic mean something bad?”

“Are you even in the sciences?”

“Is there a rule that romance doesn’t belong in the sciences? Have you called the police? Have you sued anyone?”

Kang Suhyeon talking about romance? Why? How? What’s the reasoning behind this? The fact that the term “romantic” popped up in a “Sex and Gender” assignment and his utter misunderstanding of everything was so incomprehensible—more confusing than Go Yohan’s logic. I pressed the tip of my pen in the middle of my lips, making a disgusted face. Realizing my discomfort, Kang Suhyeon suddenly shifted his hips in a spasmodic motion.

“My mom once told me I’d go crazy over my wife after marriage and ditch her to the side!”
