Chapter 146: Bond
Chapter 146: Bond
Reeva stood at the eye of the storm, his body trembling under the invisible yet crushing pressure of mystic force swirling around him. Even though he couldn’t see it, the raw energy was palpable, tearing at him, threatening to break his concentration as he worked to absorb the cursed picture.
The dark, claw-like hands that extruded from the picture shifted their attention, swiping at Reeva, intent on stopping him. Whether the object was divine or profane didn’t matter—it was foreign, repulsive even, to his mystic body. The absorption process was unnatural, and without the help of [Experiment], it would’ve been impossible.
But Reeva pressed on, his legs shaking under the strain as he felt Lola pouring more of his white mystic force toward him.
The barrier cracked, and blood—thick, seething red—poured through the opening, breaking the glass-like dome that had shielded Lola and the altar. Still, Lola gritted his teeth, focusing solely on stopping Reeva. His god’s descent was at stake, and everything hinged on preventing Reeva from completing his task.
But Reeva was already too far gone in his process. His hand maintained a steady grip on the yellow circle as the reality around him warped and twisted. The picture, vibrating violently, started to merge with him. Bit by bit, he could feel the object fusing with his being.
"NO!" Lola roared, but his desperate attempt to halt Reeva’s progress was futile.
The picture shuddered one last time, vibrating with an eerie energy before something emerged—an abomination. A squid-like creature, black and writhing, burst forth from the picture just before it fully merged into Reeva’s yellow circle. The picture was gone, absorbed into him, but the creature had other plans.
The squid-like entity leaped, its target clear—the corpse of the woman in the wedding dress. Reeva barely had time to process what was happening before he heard a blood-curdling scream.
"AGHHHHHHHH!"
The hollow, echoing scream cut through the room, and Reeva’s eyes darted toward the source. It wasn’t coming from Lola. No, it was coming from Hilda.
Reeva’s heart dropped as he realized what had happened. Hilda—his loyal companion—had transformed. The blood-soaked room reflected the horror of her new form, her body twisted and grotesque. She had turned into a demon.
"Are you alright? Can you contain it?"
Reeva asks hurriedly, knowing the mystic power could easily spiral out of control. He didn’t need two demons descending into this world—especially not one of his own people. He wouldn’t have the heart to kill anyone close to him.
"It’s okay, master. I can hold it," Hilda replied.
Even though she said that Reeva still didn’t believe her. He quickly inspected her with a coldness, trying to assess the situation. The coldness spread fast throughout her demonized body. What he found was that Hilda was a ticking time bomb, on the verge of turning into a demon at any moment.
"Why did you do it?" he asked.
"Paying back the arrow."
Her answer was swift and to the point. Reeva didn’t know what to think—she was in great danger because of him. If only he were stronger and better, this wouldn’t be happening. But there was nothing he could do right now. He glanced briefly at his own power.
After bonding with an item, the method of using that power would reveal itself in time. But this process took patience—some went years without understanding what their power truly was or how it worked. Only vague sensations and trial and error could help one know when and how to act. Reeva might need more time than others, especially since he didn’t have the best affinity with the mystical world.
However, there also exist some who know what their power does right away. BUt t defiantly not himself. Reeva works his mystic force to facilitate something inside his body trying to find out what he got. However, before he could do that.
"AGHHHHHH!"
Another scream tore through the air. Reeva looked over and saw that the middle-aged man’s body was resisting death, clinging to life through sheer force of will. The moment the god fled the scene, only fragments of its power remained.
But descending as a god required sacrifice, and the god had made its choice, to either hide or fight. Reeva had anticipated this.
Lola’s body was now just a sliver of what it had been, the majority of his life force drained, and transferred to the god. With Lola incapacitated, there was no one to hold Reeva back anymore. He made the best move he could and dashed forward to grab the black tentacle before it reached the corpse. His hand extended as far as it could, but it wasn’t enough.
Even with his demon-enhanced body, the creature was too fast.
However, while Reeva missed, someone else didn’t. Hilda managed to grab the tentacle and stop the squid-like creature before it reached its target. She skewered it with her claws and threw it aside.
But that wasn’t enough.
The moment Hilda threw the creature away, it disintegrated. However, this whole room still has that mystic energy which means that it’s still alive.
Reeva’s eyes widened, searching for the creature, but then he felt a chill run down his spine. He knew exactly what had happened. The monster had transferred its intent onto the bride’s body.
Reeva held his breath and dashed toward it. He had to stop the monster before it gained more strength or turned the room into part of its living organ. But once again, his eyes widened—not because of something the monster had done, but because of what had pierced through it.
From the corner of his eye, Reeva saw who had entered.
"Long time no see, Penu. When you sent your maid and sister to meet me at the mansion, I thought I’d get a new puppet. But to think I’d get this one... That’s a bit unexpected."
That voice sent a chill down Reeva’s spine. There was only one person whose voice remained consistent no matter what body he took, Tula. At this moment, Tula was gazing at the bride’s corpse with eager anticipation.
Waiting for his new toy to come to life.
