Chapter 148: Pain Demon
Chapter 148: Pain Demon
The bride’s twisted laugh echoed through the room, a grotesque mixture of human and otherworldly tones that sent a shiver down Reeva’s spine. Her eyes, void of life yet filled with an eerie awareness, locked onto him.
"I am…" The voice shifted between several tones, as though multiple beings were speaking through the bride at once. "…everything… and nothing… The beginning and the end…"
The words sent a bolt of realization through Reeva. This wasn’t just the void entity anymore—it had merged with something more. Perhaps Lola’s own consciousness, or maybe even the remnants of the bride’s soul, were now all fighting for control inside the body.
However, what clue him in is the fact that behind him, the body of Tula flops on the floor, lifeless. Either It’s his consciousness or the void being won over. Either way, it definitely got someone in there other than the demon since it celebrated.
Void beings don’t have the range of emotions to express such a thing.
The bride’s lips curled into a twisted grin, revealing jagged teeth where none should have been.
"I am the union of death and life," she continued, her voice stabilizing, more coherent. "I am the bride of the void, and you, Penu… you are a fool to stand against me."
Reeva clenched his fists, now keenly aware that whatever stood before him wasn’t just a reanimated corpse or a demon, it was a fusion of conflicting powers, unstable but growing in strength by the second. He knew he couldn’t let her gain full control.
"You talk too much," Reeva muttered, preparing to strike again. His fists crackled with energy as he focused on the mystic force within him, honing it as best as he could.
Before he could act, however, the bride’s body jerked again—this time unnaturally fast, the movement disjointed but terrifying in its sheer unpredictability. In an instant, she closed the distance between them, her cold hand reaching out, wrapping around Reeva’s throat.
"Why fight it?" she whispered, the void echoing behind her voice. "You will become one with the nothingness, just like everyone else."
Reeva felt a cold pressure closing around him as if the very air was being sucked out of his lungs. Darkness crept at the edges of his vision, and he struggled to maintain his hold on reality.
At this rate he would be over, his life flashing before his eyes as the mystic energy in him fights off the mystic energy that the demon bride exerts. However, the void being power was endless. even if it is just an avatar, it could easily overpower him.
I need to...
His thought couldn’t finish since the oxygen wasn’t flowing in his brain anymore. His eyes are hazy from getting squeezed in his neck.
"Humans are such flimsy creatures, they die at a slight touch. Don’t you agree demon maid?"
"...agh"
To the side, Hilda couldn’t hold it anymore, and let go. The strain she had on her body was too much and the fact that her master needed her pushed her to let go of the mystic force that she was holding.
Her skin crackles and the red color dyes the whole body as blood drips down from every pour of her entire body. Her body elongates, more than ever before.
"AGHHHHHH"
She screams out in pain, her body is in pain and everybody needs to be in pain too. Blood that poured out of her body started flowing, rapidly approaching the bride. AS though it has a sentience of its own, the snake across the room and latch onto the bride.
By now the dress is starting to merge with her body. her face pale, as if she going back to being dead but she was still clearly alive and kicking.
The moment the bride came into contact with Hilda’s blood, her expression changed. She released Reeva as she quickly dodged the stream of blood flowing toward her.
"What a nasty demon you are," the bride sneered while retreating. She raised her hand and began converting the blood that touched her into her own power. Since the blood was made of mystic energy, she had no trouble absorbing it. The once crimson blood turned white as it was drawn into the bride’s body, boosting her strength.
However, the flow of blood was endless. As long as Hilda felt pain, it would continue to pour forth, attacking everything in the room. Despite her newfound power, the bride couldn’t absorb all of the blood, forcing her to back away from the altar.
Reeva, too, was forced to retreat. The blood was merciless, targeting anyone nearby, and even Reeva found himself feeling what Hilda’s enemies must have experienced. A single touch of the blood on his arm burned endlessly, searing his skin.
Shit
Luckily, Reeva was able to avoid most of the blood attacks—not because of his skill, but because there was a larger target in the room. The void bride was dodging the blood as well.
The blood continued to flow endlessly, flooding the room. The once colorless zone had turned a deep crimson, dispelled the moment Lola was knocked out. With the floor beneath them now awash in blood, the bride had nowhere left to go. She leaped onto one of the four pillars holding up the room, digging her fingers into the smooth stone with ease.
Reeva was running out of room too, and he knew he had to follow suit. But first, he grabbed Leon, hoisting him onto his shoulder. Leon’s body was cold, but he was still breathing—barely.
With a powerful jump, Reeva launched himself from the elevated altar to a nearby pillar, narrowly avoiding another wave of Hilda’s blood. His body ached, and the relentless attacks left little time to think.
Looking around from his precarious position on the pillar, Reeva knew he had to find his next move.
Right then, Reeva noticed the bride climbing up one of the pillars. His gaze followed her path and landed on the ceiling, where white tentacles writhed and dangled. There must be something up there—something important—for her to be heading toward it.
