Chapter 164: Already know

Chapter 164: Already know

No matter what he says, don’t reveal our plans.

That’s what Brent told Onia when she wanted to meet with Reeva. But now, those words were beginning to waver.

"Fine, but you have to reveal your plan first."

"No, I’m the one with the better offer, so naturally, you should go first."

Onia gritted her teeth, weighing her options once again. This time, she put more thought into it. Her mind was heating up, running through the possibilities. Eventually, she couldn’t handle it anymore and went with her gut.

"Fine, we plan to get a potion at the next village and cure Theia. Then we head to the capital."

Reeva looked at her with doubt in his eyes.

"That’s not the whole plan, is it?" Reeva felt there was more to it than that.

"I’ve already revealed my plan. Now it’s your turn."

"Lady, are you running a scam? Does your house name mean nothing? You need to honor the deal and explain the plan in detail, without leaving anything out. Then, I’ll hold up my end of the bargain."

Onia gritted her teeth harder.

"You’re the one running a scam! I already told you the plan, but you’re not giving me the solution to my sister’s condition."

"Then we can end the deal here..."

Tch. Onia couldn’t help but frown angrily. Reeva was clinging to the deal like a parasite. When she looked over at him again, she grew even more furious. If they survived this, she would’ve punched him right in the face.

No, if not for the fact that Hilda was watching closely, she would’ve done it already. The maid had saved Reeva from such a fate.

"Fine."

She cracked. The potential to save her sister was too good to pass up, even if it meant playing along with Reeva’s games. "Brent has a plan to visit some places that he found in a book—a secret location that holds a potion to cure my sister. We will retrieve it and save her."

"And what will you do with me?"

"..." Onia clenched her teeth before finally admitting, "We’re going to abandon you. There, I said it. Now give me the cure to my sister’s condition." She glossed over her words, but Reeva unmistakably caught the hint of what was really about to happen.

"…"

"I’ve already revealed my plan. Now show me your end of the deal."

"Well, to be honest, it looks like you already know my end of the deal."

"What?"

"The information I was going to give you was about the potion at the next village that could save your sister. But it seems you already knew about that."

"..." Hearing this, Onia’s frustration boiled over. This wasn’t an acceptable answer. "I shouldn’t have expected anything different from you."

She took back everything she had thought earlier about him changing. The guy was still a scumbag, the same manipulator who ripped people off without a second thought.

"I didn’t lie. We could even get a priest to perform divination if you want."

"Enough of your bullshit. I’m done talking to you."

She should have trusted her first instinct about Reeva. If she had, she wouldn’t have revealed such critical information. She glanced at him quietly, trying to gauge what he might do with it.

She fully expected to see panic or fear on his face. After all, Brent was going to abandon Reeva, leaving him with a death sentence. Nobody could stay calm after hearing something like that. But to her surprise, Reeva didn’t seem the least bit bothered. He sat back in the carriage, lounging as if they were on a leisure trip.

He even smiled a few times.

Onia wanted to ask more, but she remembered that continuing to talk to him would get her nowhere. With that, the conversation ended. For the rest of the day, neither of them spoke another word.

----------

The snow had started falling. The temperature had dropped low enough for such a thing to occur. It was probably well past the middle of the month by now, and the first snowflakes could be seen drifting down to the ground.

The sight would have been quite magical for Reeva, if not for the fact that he was trapped in a mobile prison. Onia, who sat beside him, also peered out the peephole when the snow began to fall.

This turn of events might actually work in their favor. The carriage was already heavy, and pulling it through a thick layer of snow would be difficult for the horses. Maybe the convoy would need an extra day to reach Lmemore.

And the prisoners would definitely appreciate the additional time.

Despite the snow outside, Reeva barely felt the cold in his prison cell. The temperature inside hadn’t changed much, and it was actually warmer than he expected. He doubted it was due to the oil lamp burning in the corner.

Even if it were some sort of mystical oil lamp, it wouldn’t be enough to warm the entire space. Reeva concluded that there had to be something else—likely a mystic property imbued by the church.

Soon, the caravan stopped for a lunch break. The priests set up a small camp to cook their meal, while Reeva waited patiently for his. They wouldn’t open the door for something as simple as this. The prisoners would only be let out when they reached Lmemore.

This prison also doubled as a room where Reeva would remain confined, ensuring he couldn’t cause any trouble. Security was tight—not just because he was considered a heretic in their eyes.

The real reason they went to such lengths was Hilda. With her history of transforming into a demon, they couldn’t risk her breaking free. It would’ve been far too easy to escape if they’d used the same carriage they used for Brent. And they were right in using this stone coffin to contain her.

Not long after the camp was set up, their food arrived. A priest slid a tray of food through the peephole. He looks over with a bit of an excited mean but soon it turns into disappointment.
