Chapter 84: Arrive at the wedding

Chapter 84: Arrive at the wedding

The day had finally arrived, and Reeva dressed in a proper suit, while Theia wore a light white blouse, and Hilda donned her usual maid uniform. The wedding was to be held at the Sun God Church, a grand celebration that would last from sunrise to sundown—a full day to honor the love of two individuals.

For Reeva, attending this wedding was surprisingly easy. All he had to do was express his interest, and he was immediately welcomed. The only condition was that he provide burgers for the guests’ lunch, for which they would pay him handsomely. The couple were avid fans of his burgers, making it a win-win situation.

In the morning, there wasn’t much for everyone to do. The bride and groom were in separate rooms, preparing for the big event. Reeva, Theia, and Hilda arrived early to scout the venue, hoping to spot anything suspicious or sniff out potential heretics.

When they arrived, the church was mostly empty, as most guests were expected to arrive later for the main event. Reeva and Theia made their way to a bench at the back of the room, while Hilda stood off to the side. As other servants do.

The front seats were reserved for the couple’s close relatives, so being seated at the back indicated their relative unimportance to the bride and groom. Reeva hadn’t expected much, given his last-minute request to attend.

The bride, dressed in a stunning white gown, emerged from a side room, smiling and chatting with the early arrivals. After a while, she noticed Reeva and, looking a bit surprised, quickly approached him.

"I’m sorry, sir, we couldn’t reserve a front seat for you," the bride said, her blonde hair framing her round face—a typical Eyre girl from the mainland.

"No problem, it’s our fault for arriving late," Reeva replied with a reassuring smile. "By the way, how’s the burger?"

They had prepared some burgers earlier in the morning, and more were being cooked by his employees at that moment.

"It’s kind of embarrassing, but I ate some while getting my makeup done. The artist scolded me for it," she admitted, her cheeks turning a bit red as she scratched at them, trying to hide her embarrassment.

"Don’t worry, anyone would do the same in your position," Reeva said.

That drew a chuckle from the bride. "But I bet I’m the first bride to eat a burger in the bridal suite."

"Congratulations! We’ll make sure to get a trophy for this special achievement" Reeva replied in a sarcastic tone.

"You jest!" she said, laughing more freely now. "Anyway, thank you for coming to our event. We’re glad to have you here."

"It’s me who’s glad to be here. Praise the Sun."

"Praise the Sun," she echoed.

They chatted a bit more before the bride excused herself to greet her arriving relatives.

As time passed, more guests filled the church, and the bench Reeva sat on grew more crowded with lively chatter. According to the information Holen had given him, this wedding was between Kate and Leon, both from merchant families. Their marriage was a combination of arrangement and love at first sight, meant to unite their family businesses and strengthen their capital.

It was likely a move toward securing a ticket to nobility.

It was a grand occasion, but Reeva wasn’t entirely happy. He had come hoping to find something that might connect this event to heretics or a cult, but so far, everything seemed normal. He needed more concrete clues—something more... perceivable. While someone might hide their true thoughts, at some point, their core beliefs might leak out.

The bride, however, seemed entirely typical of a Sun God Church devotee. But then he considered that the heretics he was after might believe that "everything is god." Such a belief would allow them to blend in perfectly with normal society, even accepting the Sun God as part of their pantheon. He realized he would need more pointed questions to reveal someone’s true beliefs.

At around 10 AM, as the main event was about to start and the church benches were nearly full, a man sat down next to Reeva. A quick glance revealed a middle-aged man with a full black beard covering most of his chin. He wore a suit and a bowler hat. As soon as he saw Reeva, the man’s eyes lit up.

"Nice to meet you, kid. Didn’t think you’d be at this event," the man said with a grin.

"Who might you be?" Reeva asked respectfully.

"Haha, I’m just a small hotel owner, known as Rudoff Landlong," the man chuckled.

Reeva’s eyes widened as he took a long look at the man. He hadn’t expected this unassuming individual to be the owner of the prestigious Landlong Hotel.

"Hahaha," Rudoff laughed, "it never gets old every time I say my name."

"You seem to enjoy that, sir," Reeva replied, trying to match the man’s humor.

"Oh, hardly," Rudoff continued in a sarcastic tone. "I’m not as popular as the hot buns on Grand Road these days."

"Nice to meet you, Sir Rudoff. If you didn’t know already, I’m Penu Koshav, the owner of the R&N burger stall," Reeva said, putting even more respect into his tone.

"Nice to meet you too! Never thought I’d meet the ’burger boy’ here of all places. Would you mind sharing the recipe? We could give you 10% every time the dish is served at my restaurant," Rudoff said, getting straight into business just minutes after meeting Reeva.

Reeva smiled, impressed by the man’s straightforwardness. This was truly a man who had built a hotel for the most prestigious people in Tumidus—and who wasn’t shy about making a deal. However, Reeva also couldn’t help but notice that Rudoff was already trying to strike a hard bargain. The man was a true businessman at heart.

Reevaa couldn’t help but let off a chuckle.

"I’ll have to respectfully decline, sir"

"You’re not half bad for an upstart" Landlong commends Reeva’s fast response.
