Grand Voyage : Surviving on a Ghost Ship

Chapter 127 - Earning money

Chapter 127 - Earning money

Yang Yi had thought Vitality Coconuts were long gone, but to his surprise, he could still buy them from Shen Guanquan.

However, the special fruit tree grew very slowly, taking at least a week or two to bear fruit.

Considering its ability to restore stamina, Yang Yi decided to buy some and turn them into Vitality Coconut Refreshers.

Though not as potent as Appetite Elixirs, coconut refreshers had no side effects and could restore a decent amount of stamina upon consumption.

After chatting with Shen Guanquan for a bit, Yang Yi went back to selling goods. This time, he planned to sell some Pale Worm Grease and Charred Liquor.

The former was an excellent fuel source.

The latter, while also flammable, was more valuable as a drink that helped resist extreme cold.

Selling them would bring in significant profits.

Yang Yi had 978L of grease in stock and planned to sell 478L. As for charred liquor, he had 332L left and decided to sell 300L.

He kept some in reserve just in case — especially the grease, which was perfect for setting fires. Knowing his line of work, he’d have plenty of opportunities for that!

After deciding to sell, Yang Yi checked the market for similar products.

Some players had also produced grease, but the quality was lower than the batch refined by Suna — it was of Good quality and sold for 100 Shell Coins per litre.

Yang Yi examined its details.

?Name: Murky Grease of the Pale Worm?

?Type: Consumable?
?Quality: Good?
?Description: Grease extracted from the corpse of a Pale Worm. Highly flammable, burns with a pungent odour.?

Compared to Suna’s refined grease, it emitted a pungent smell when burned and lacked any healing properties for frostbite or burns.

So, Yang Yi directly set his price at 300 Shell Coins per litre.

It was ridiculously expensive as a fuel source, yet eople still bought it mostly for its healing properties.

Most buyers only purchased a litre or two at a time. Only Shen Guanquan went big, buying 100L in one go.

Seeing how valuable the grease was, Yang Yi couldn't help but feel a little regretful.

Back then, he had killed a ton of Pale Worms but had tossed them all into the vending machine…

If he had processed them into grease instead, he might have made a massive fortune.

But at the time, his Nightmare Star couldn’t store that many corpses. If he had stayed to refine grease, he would have been stuck in that area for a long time and then, who knew if he’d still be ranked first?

All things considered, with his special perks and logging profits, he hadn’t actually lost out.

Besides, in that kind of environment, money-making wasn’t the priority — getting out was.

While selling the grease, Yang Yi also put up his Charred Liquor for sale.

The stuff was amazing for cold resistance, and it was the perfect time to sell it before players left the Extreme Winter Sea, when its price would drop.

Many players were willing to buy some as an emergency backup.

Yang Yi set the price at 500 Shell Coins per liter and posted an ad:

"Drink one cup of Charred Liquor, and you'll dare to streak in -30°C weather!"

"For real?"

"Quick, spread the word. One-Eyed drinks liquor and streaks in the freezing cold!"

"........"

"Quick, spread the word — One-Eyed likes streaking!"

"........"

"Quick, spread the word — One-Eyed is so broke he can't afford pants. Everyone should buy some to help him out!"

"........"

"Are we even sure he's really One-Eyed?" (1)

The chat erupted in wild speculation.

Most people assumed the seller was One-Eyed, but there were always skeptics.

Yang Yi couldn't be bothered to clarify, he just focused on selling and making money.

Throughout the process, he received numerous friend requests and spam messages, all of which he ignored.

By the time the night was nearly over, he had sold out of everything.

Checking the prices of cold-resistant clothing, he noticed they had dropped significantly.

At this point, nearly every surviving player had winter gear, so unless the quality was exceptionally high, it would be hard to sell.

With that in mind, Yang Yi decided to hold onto his own cold-weather gear — he could need it again someday.

And with that, his Shell Coin balance had reached an insane amount.

Almost 500,000!

By the latter half of the process, Yang Yi had run out of free chat messages and had to spend 100 Shell Coins per message to continue selling his goods.

In total, he spent 1,000 Shell Coins on messages.

Since his balance had grown so large, his purchasing power wasn't limited to just Rare-grade items, he now had his eyes on Exquisite-grade gear as well.

Unfortunately, none had appeared on the market yet, but it was only a matter of time.

When they did, he’d likely need to spend a massive amount of Shell Coins to get them.

Once everything was sold, there were less than five hours left until sunrise. Yang Yi wasted no time and went straight to sleep.

Before that, he downed a bottle of Appetite Elixir, ate four pieces of black bread and a few grilled long-legged sardines, then quickly drifted off.

"Maybe I should buy some Pale Worm corpses, refine them into grease, and sell it..."

That was his last thought before sleep took over.

The next day. At the break of dawn, Yang Yi woke up and checked the weather.

Today's Weather

Location: Sea of Origin
Remaining Sunlight: 10 hours
Temperature: 14–22°C
Wind Force: Level 3

The weather was pleasant, and the sun would be up for a solid 10 hours.

Instead of heading to the island immediately, he first discussed the feasibility of mass-producing worm grease with Suna.

The conclusion? It was possible but not as profitable as expected.

The biggest issue was that once a corpse had gone through the Vending Machine, its properties changed.

Not only could it no longer be used for vending rolls, but its research value would also drop significantly.

The phenomenon only occurred with bodies that were vending-compatible, meaning that the resulting grease would have lower yield and worse quality.

To test it, Yang Yi spent 500 Shell Coins to buy a worm tentacle as thick as a leg and refined it.

The result?

Only 14 litres of grease, and its quality had downgraded to Good.

At the previous night's price, he could sell it for about 1,400 Shell Coins, but the process took a full hour.

After just one test, Yang Yi scrapped the grease-refining plan entirely and focused fully on logging instead.

Even Suna was recruited to help, her job was transporting logs. Otherwise, if they didn’t sell the wood fast enough, the market price could crash before they were done.

As more players left the Extreme Winter Sea, other lucky survivors would start finding islands too.

At that point, more players would start selling logs, while the number of buyers in Extreme Winter would shrink causing prices to plummet.

Yang Yi had to sell everything before that happened.

With Suna’s help, they split the work. She handled some of the banana trees, making the process even more efficient.

After about five hours, not a single intact tree was left standing on the island.

Yang Yi and Suna took a quick break for a simple meal before starting the log transport process.

Moving everything in one direction was too inefficient. Instead, they opted to strategically place logs at different coastal points.

That way, when the Nightmare Star sailed past, they could simply use grappling hooks to collect the wood without making extra trips.

The process was long and exhausting, and both of them had to take frequent breaks.

By the time night fell, they had managed to transport a little over 1,000 trees. In terms of lumber, this amounted to a significant haul.

Among them, a large batch was sold to the Ironheart, split into two transactions, earning a total of 250,000 Shell Coins.
