I Might As Well Quit This Lousy Wizard Profession

Chapter 128 - 128 120 hold on for a moment

Chapter 128 - 128 120 hold on for a moment

?Chapter 128: 120 hold on for a moment Chapter 128: 120 hold on for a moment The Antler Witch-Hunting Knight Order swept in with a whoosh and left just as quickly.

These people claimed not to be fond of socializing, but the real reason was that the so-called ‘Demon Hunters’ sent by the ‘Southern Alliance’ weren’t compatible with the ‘Witch-hunting Knights’ at all.

The differences between the Conservative Faction and the Innovators were sometimes even greater than the differences between Witch-hunting Knights and Wizards.

Demon Hunters were considered tolerable, but those focusing on the Animal Husbandry Faction such as ‘Beast Herders’, and even more traditional ones like ‘Qi Practitioners’ (or ‘Spirit Practitioners’), ‘Ferry Gate Sect’ and other factions, would earn an expression of disgust from the young boss when mentioned.

The main reason was the Conservative Faction’s strict standards for dealing with Wizards, essentially considering Wizards to be akin to ‘beasts’.

Some cruel acts seemed reasonable once the others were regarded not as humans, but as chickens, ducks, fish, geese, cattle, and sheep.

Ironically, both the young boss and Lin An were categorized as so-called ‘beasts’.

Well…

One could only say that Lin An was lucky to have settled in ‘Shenhou City’; had he been on the Conservative Faction’s turf, by now he would have been skinned, his muscles stripped, his bones ground to dust, and his ashes scattered.

The Innovators despised the Conservative Faction for walking along the path leading to death, unable to adapt.

The Conservative Faction despised the Innovators for their reckless acts, for allowing Wizards room to breathe and putting ordinary people in danger.

This was the most irreconcilable conflict.

The Conservative Faction was fixated on protecting the common people, bound by too many rules, strictly hierarchical internally, like an official residence.

The Innovators were fixated on finding new directions for humanity, even hoping that one day humans would possess transcendent powers, more like mad scientists from the civilian world.

Such distinctions led to vastly different attitudes towards the group of ‘Wizards’ between the two sides.

Therefore, the upcoming banquet at the hotel…

It wasn’t exactly a homecoming; it was utterly uneventful.

The old man in a three-piece suit with a white beard, Mr. Yao, had a twinkle in his eye as he slowly picked at the fish in front of him, taking bite after tiny bite.

The decadent long-haired young man who claimed to be Xiao Yao ate voraciously, burying his head and continuously consuming food, yet he was incredibly thin.

The girl in leather pants, on the other hand, politely introduced her full name as Feng Xin.

This was Lin An’s first encounter with this surname.

Feng Xin claimed to be a professional Demon Hunter, without any ordinary profession, insisting that Lin An call her ‘Sister Xin’. Upon arrival at the hotel, she called for a crate of white liquor to be brought up and drank straight from the bottle.

Her gaze was sharp, like that of an eagle, and she spoke with the hearty frankness characteristic of someone born in the loess highlands.

“Your Sister Xin here has killed no less than seventy to eighty Wizards, if not a hundred,” she said.

Talking about this, her eyes wandered over Lin An’s body, filled with teasing, clearly still somewhat suspicious that Lin An was a Wizard.

Lin An simply went ‘wow’ in response, full of admiration, “Amazing, amazing!”

While praising her, Lin An looked up to her admiringly, “Sister Xin, how many Sorcerer Zombies have you killed?”

Feng Xin choked on her drink, coughing non-stop, unable to utter a single word.

Mr. Yao lifted his eyelids to glance at Feng Xin and smiled, shaking his head.

Feng Xin, however, furrowed her brows and told Lin An, “This time, when I find that Eyeball Witch Monster, I will prove myself!”

Great~
Full of spirit!

Lin An shrugged offhandedly, neither affirming nor denying.

He had a particular issue when dealing with Witch-hunting Knights or Demon Hunters.

That was their gaze lacked spirituality.

They only manifested a law form behind them when they activated Furnace Power.

And the law form seemed as if it couldn’t communicate either.

It was particularly troublesome.

And so, after finishing a meal, Lin An booked rooms in the hotel for the three of them, planning to show them around the city the next day.

Before leaving, a drunken Feng Xin grabbed Lin An’s hand and pulled him into her room.

“Sister Xin… *hic*… has a treasure to show you.”

“???”

She opened her suitcase and pulled out a pair of white jade-like spheres the size of ping pong balls, spinning them in her hand as if they were walnuts.

Thinking for a moment, she directly stuffed them into Lin An’s hand.

“This is…” Lin An blinked, looking closely. The two small spheres in his hands had a black line in the middle. These damn things… were a pair of eyeballs!

He was so startled he almost threw them away on the spot.

“Eyeballs of a Sorcerer Zombie!” Feng Xin explained, “That Sorcerer Zombie was particularly disgusting, covered with thousands of eyeballs like these. After the Southern Alliance killed the Sorcerer Zombie, they took the eyeballs as a kind of reward.”

“Once you congeal the Furnace, throw it into the Cultivation Furnace to smelt it; this thing can serve as a supplement. If you understand alchemy, it has a very good effect on heart and blood vessel issues.”

As she spoke, she looked at Lin An with drunken blurred eyes, “If you’re not a wizard, consider this gift as Feng Xin’s misunderstanding, my apology and compensation for you… But if you are a wizard…”

She pondered for a moment, lazily waved her hand, “Consider it compensation as well, because I definitely have to kill you, the wizard.”

Lin An was astonished.

Feng Xin was evidently truly drunk. She carelessly pushed her suitcase aside, rolled over onto the bed, and squirmed into the blankets like a maggot burrowing inward.

“Help me close the door~”
After a long silence, Lin An let out a deep sigh, pulled the quilt over Feng Xin, and then left after closing the door.

The arrival of the Witch-hunting Knight from out of town made his recently relaxed nerves tense once again.

As a wizard wanting to live a good life, it really wasn’t easy.

He needed to master a life-saving technique as soon as possible.

The method for a Knight apprentice to cultivate the Furnace didn’t seem like something that could be accomplished in one day, and it seemed impossible for a wizard apprentice to weather the Emotional Fluctuation Period overnight either.

He could only try to find a way through spirituality.

Only on the path of spirituality was there a possibility to cut corners and overtake others.

Using spiritual power to cast ‘Dizzy’ Sorcery obviously was a good way to save his life, but the flesh and blood fragments from the Dark Gold Statue of the ‘Rabbit Mask Wizard’ would run out one day.

He needed to master ‘Dizzy’ Sorcery himself, and quickly!

They say there are no two identical forms of witchcraft in the world, and he didn’t know what kind of ‘Dizzy’ Sorcery he could concoct after wholly digesting the Witchcraft Spirituality of the Rabbit Mask Wizard.

Sitting on the bus with his head leaning against the window, Lin An silently watched the city streets, without uttering a word for a long time.

His mentality had truly undergone a tremendous change.

He felt pressure, but it wasn’t the kind of pressure that weighed on his heart, it was an awareness of ‘Oh, I have pressure’, and his heart actually started to get more excited.

It was the desire for chasing thrills, the yearning to break free from a repressed and numb past life.

Unlike the ‘Rabbit Mask Wizard’s’ pursuit of excitement.

He chased excitement because of a strong desire for a better life.

He seemed to have started to enjoy the looming danger posed by the likes of Mr. Liu, the Demon Hunter from out of town, and the relentless Kapok.

This feeling made his longing for life much more intense.

He felt that he was on the path of chasing life.

A lively life, not a life filled with dullness.

It was these very obstacles that made him feel completely different about life.

In the evening, he arrived home.

The Ugly Head hanging on the wall was humming a song, “Return my eyes~return my~eyes~~~return my~eyes~~”
Lin An pursed his lips gently and removed it from the net pocket.

He sighed, sat cross-legged on the floor, and looked sincerely at the Ugly Head, “Yes, I must admit, I probably did take your eyes.”

The Ugly Head paused, then excitedly said, “Right, right, I knew you took my eyes!”

“Can you return them to me? Do you know how uncomfortable it feels to be blind? Do you know how unpleasant it is to feel incomplete?”

Lin An nodded, “I can imagine, but I’m sorry, I can’t return them. I don’t know how, and I don’t want to. With everything that’s been happening, I rely on your eyes more and more. Without them, I might have already been dead.”

Maybe killed by a Witch-hunting Knight, maybe killed by someone sent by Mr. Liu, or even die without realizing Mr. Liu was sneakily dealing with me…

“Wuwuwu~~~” The Ugly Head cried, “Yes, yes, of course I know you need them, but it’s so painful for me!”

“You don’t understand, Lin An, I vaguely feel you have another spirit growing inside you, but I can’t see it.”

“The hearts of people are complex, filled with struggle and gamesmanship. Lin An, do you understand what I’m saying? I don’t even know when I might be consumed by your newly sprouted spirit.”

“I can’t even see clearly who it is, so I won’t die with understanding.”

What the head was talking about was probably a black cat, Lin An had such a premonition.

After some thought, he took out two eyeballs from his pocket, “Are these of any use to you?”

“???” The Ugly Head aimed its eye sockets in Lin An’s direction, “What are those? You know I can’t see!”

Right.

Lin An thought for a moment, looking at the blurry flesh of the eye sockets before him and then at the eyeballs in his hand.

“How about you bear with it, and I try stuffing them in to check?”

“???”
