Chapter 94 - 94 088 We must keep moving forward
?Chapter 94: 088 We must keep moving forward. Chapter 94: 088 We must keep moving forward. Lin An’s feelings were complex, with too many doubts he sought answers to.
He hesitated for a moment, but ultimately asked the question that most concerned his own life.
“If you knew I was a wizard, why didn’t you kill me?”
It wasn’t his first encounter with the Witch-hunting Knights, and he knew all too well their attitude towards wizards.
It was precisely because of this that he wondered why he had become such an exception.
“Two answers, the misguided Lu Tingyu, who had gone astray, and the despicable and selfish me!” Professor Cao looked deeply at Lin An, “To save Lu Dexian, this most promising heir to the Antler Witch Hunter Knights, who was exceptionally compatible with his father, I had to find a solution.”
“Then you came to me on your own, and I took you for my experimentation, to see if my solution would work.”
“!!!”
Lin An was astonished.
“Get outta here, if you don’t know how to talk, shut up!” Doctor Zhang dragged Professor Cao aside, then smilingly put his arm around Lin An’s shoulder and pulled him to one side, “It’s not as simple as he said. All this involves the planning of two generations, and just right, I’ll tell you about the spirit of our Antler group, which is completely different from the other Witch Hunter Knights.”
He led Lin An to sit down on a patch of dirt nearby, “All this started with my father’s generation, the previous Antler Witch Hunter Knights.”
“Back then, the world was in turmoil, with wizards rampant, and careless behavior could raise a Sorcerer Zombie that would wipe out a village or town. The goal of the Witch Hunter Knights was to hunt down wizards, and our Antler group was the most famous in the country.”
Doctor Zhang mentioned this with a face full of emotion, “Back then, the Antler group was too incredible, bathed in unlimited glory, and so they lost themselves amid the praises of ‘big boss is awesome’ and ‘big boss is fantastic’.”
He raised his hand and drew it forcefully forward and upward, his eyes following suit, “As the boss, one must be visionary. We, the Antlers, had to lead the way for the Witch Hunter Knights in the country, thinking ten steps ahead.”
“So, the Antler group moved further and further away from the path of mere killers to become experimenters, explorers, and pioneers.”
“We had to find a way out for the Supernatural World.”
“Not long after, the Antlers would also nearly be destroyed for a similar reason.” Doctor Zhang sarcastically muttered, yet his face was full of pride bathed in the glory of his ancestors.
“That’s when they proposed the ‘Furnace Refinement’ plan.”
“How should I put it…” Doctor Zhang thought for a moment, “Some of what Mr. Cao told you the other time is not quite right.”
“Wizards are not the chosen ones; they themselves do not receive the favor of the Spirit Realm. It is the Seven Emotions and Six Desires within them that do.”
“These Seven Emotions and Six Desires, nourished by Spiritual Energy, become extremely powerful. To some extent, they can be considered creatures of the Spirit Realm. These Spirit Realm creatures can harness the power of the Spirit Realm to exhibit Super Dimensional abilities, which is what is known as witchcraft.”
“And us Witch-hunting Knights, when we first sought to overcome this issue, to complete our mission of hunting down monsters and resisting the assimilation of the Spirit Realm, chose to sever our Seven Emotions and Six Desires.”
“Later on, the Witch Hunter Knights discovered something called Stone Treasure, which seemed like a Sorcerer Zombie, but did not invoke the descent of the Spirit Realm like one.”
“Thus was born the Furnace method, where instead of wastefully cutting away our Seven Emotions and Six Desires, we used the Furnace to refine them, offering them as a sacrifice to the Stone Treasure.”
“The interesting part is here, when our Seven Emotions and Six Desires combined with the Stone Treasure, it became powerful, in harmony with our wills, yet did not interfere with us.”
“Our Seven Emotions and Six Desires inside the Stone Treasure merged with the Spiritual Energy of the Spirit Realm, displaying Super Dimensional powers just the same.”
“Not only that, but we also forged and fed the Seven Emotions and Six Desires of the Sorcerer Zombies we hunted to our Stone Treasures.”
Doctor Zhang raised his eyebrows, “Quite fun, isn’t it?”
Lin An was fascinated and nodded.
“Not yet, this is merely the beginning, we must continue to progress.” Doctor Zhang waved his hand grandly, “After all, Stone Treasures are external objects. We, the Witch Hunter Knights, by emulating the essence of the Stone Treasures, improved the Furnace to produce Stone Treasures of its own.”
Enormous antlers grew out from Doctor Zhang’s head.
“See, these aren’t antlers from some deer-shaped Stone Treasure; I trained these myself.”
He was a bit smug, and he had reason to be, “Mr. Cao’s antlers are not his; his antlers are his father’s, and my father’s antlers went to my daughter. A badass like me, who doesn’t rely on ancestral inheritance, is truly badass!”
Lin An nodded seriously, “That’s really badass!”
“Hahaha~~” Doctor Zhang laughed heartily.
But his laughter came to an abrupt halt, particularly jarring, as if he found it difficult to laugh any longer, yet he still wore a smiling expression.
“But this is still just a small step on a challenging path; we are still moving forward.”
“Wizards are favored by fate, they simply have to indulge their desires to grow stronger and stronger. But we Witch Hunter Knights can’t do that; we all come from ordinary backgrounds, we can only continue researching and pondering.”
“Next is the ‘Furnace Refinement’ by the previous generation that I mentioned earlier.”
“Back then, my forefathers believed we should carve out a path for wizards, turn them into Witch Hunter Knights, let them hunt down other delusional wizards, and carry out a version update of the Supernatural World on Earth.”
“This is exactly what Mr. Cao referred to as the ‘Chive garden self-sustaining Furnace plan’ as wizards, in theory, should be the most suitable become Witch Hunter Knights.”
“The specific method is that the Furnace selectively refines the Spiritual Energy attached to the Seven Emotions and Six Desires.”
“But they all failed.”
“The cost of the experiments was tragic…”
Doctor Zhang shared a glance with Professor Cao, both draped in sorrow, “All dead!”
He chuckled bitterly, “Lin An, you went to our slaughterhouse, didn’t you? You didn’t see a single old person, right?”
Lin An swallowed hard, speechless.
“Lu Tingyu was the most talented among our generation of Antler, and the only one obsessed with inheriting the will of the previous generation,”
“He even found a witch to cooperate with him.”
“No one supported him, except for me and Mr. Cao. We helped him hide the existence of Little Lu’s mother from the other members of the opposing Knight Order.”
“Later, when it was exposed, Little Lu’s mother, in order to prove her love, infiltrated the Witch Organization as an undercover agent and ultimately died.”
“Because of this, the Antler eradicated the witch force that had begun to grow following the annihilation of the previous generation.”
“This is also why everyone could tolerate the existence of Little Lu.”
Lin An nodded, somewhat guessing what had happened behind these events.
“Since then, Mr. Lu started to become… uh… radical.”
“Before he completely fell apart, he grabbed Mr. Cao’s and my hands, asking us to protect his research materials and not let his lifetime’s efforts go to waste.”
Professor Cao snorted coldly from the side, “That’s not what he said, he asked us to continue the research, but we didn’t agree.”
“Really? You really didn’t agree?” Doctor Zhang looked at Mr. Cao with a half-smile, “Then who was it that hastily submitted his resignation to the university and went back to Shenhou City?”
“What good does coming back do?” Professor Cao sighed, “Not everyone is a genius like Mr. Lu. I simply don’t have the ability to continue the research.”
“I…”
He turned his head towards Lin An, “I can only try in a clumsy way…”
“You really are talented, Lin An, just by learning a bit of the ‘Deer Play Breathing Skill,’ you managed to step through the threshold. Just by learning a bit of the health-preserving ‘Spirit Cat Spinal Stretching Technique,’ you were able to show some form.”
He fell silent, “I started panicking, procrastinating month after month. I don’t know if what I’m doing is actually harming you.”
“I lack sufficient talent to be a good teacher,”
Professor Cao sighed deeply.
Little Lu yearned to continue the line of thought of three generations, yet also tried to forge a different path.
He didn’t know if it was feasible, he could only watch helplessly and at a loss.
And now, Lin An stood before him, and he was still filled with helplessness and disarray.
Furthermore, the adverse effects of the Witch Hunter Knights’ practice started to emerge; his mind was not only becoming duller, but he also began to feel the rapid aging of his body…
He was just a failure, someone who spent his life running from destiny, yet never willing to compromise.
Powerless, struggling to survive.
He then turned his gaze to Doctor Zhang, who merely shrugged his shoulders helplessly, “We’re just like the Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing beside Monkey King, only capable of cheering you on; don’t expect too much from me.”
They both looked at Lin An, their expressions as complex as they were the last time. (End of Chapter 14)
But this time, Lin An didn’t shrink back, just calmly observing everything.
“I didn’t say it last time, but this time I want to ask,” Professor Cao’s voice took on an inexplicably world-weary tone, “Do you want to follow me and learn the ‘Deer Horn Breathing Skill’ of the Witch Hunter Knights?”
“This is the method I’ve put together from Mr. Lu’s research materials. No one knows whether it will work. Perhaps, it’s still a dead end!”
Lin An didn’t answer immediately. After thinking for a moment, he quietly asked,
“If I don’t join the Witch Hunter Knights, will I eventually become a wizard, or a Sorcerer Zombie?”
Professor Cao was taken aback, and Doctor Zhang provided the answer, “The ‘Shallow Awakening’ researched by the leader of the Male Witch Organization, the Kapok tree, god knows if it’s stable, so whether you can become a wizard is not certain. But that you will eventually become a Sorcerer Zombie is for sure.”
“The Sorcerer’s Bloodline is like a key; the Spiritual Energy of the Spirit Realm flows through your body along the Sorcerer’s Bloodline, combining with your emotions. Even if you don’t turn into a wizard, you will gradually accumulate power subconsciously and ultimately transform into a magical creature.”
Lin An nodded, then asked, “If I don’t learn the ways of the Witch Hunter Knights with you, with my wizard identity, will I be hunted by the Witch Hunter Knights, even by the two of you?”
This time, even Doctor Zhang fell silent. He obviously hadn’t considered this question before and exchanged a glance with Professor Cao, both of their expressions indifferent.
But sometimes, silence is also an answer.
Lin An smiled faintly and continued to ask, “One last question, if my wizard identity is exposed, can you tell the other Witch Hunter Knights that I am here as a practitioner and an experimenter for the purpose of getting Lu Dexian, the best prospect of the Witch Hunter Knights, on the right path?”
“Besides, I, just like the boss’s mother, have entered the Witch Organization as an undercover agent. I’d be very willing to combat the Witch ‘Kapok Tree’ and its sheltered Male Witch Organization ‘Crazy Male Witch’s Tree Hole’ on behalf of the Witch Hunter Knights. Surely, that would grant me their emotional continuation, right?”
“We can,” Professor Cao said, albeit with a bit of embarrassment, “I seem to have forced you into a corner without any other options.”
Doctor Zhang glanced at Lin An and nodded, “Mr. Cao and I will protect you, but not because of a transaction, but because we consider you our student!”
Lin An was already quite satisfied.
Where in life is there anything perfect? He was willing to accept this predicament.
However…
“You’ll teach me too?” he couldn’t help but ask, curiously looking at Doctor Zhang.
“Heh heh heh~~~” Doctor Zhang raised an eyebrow, all excitement, “I’ll teach you witchcraft!”
“???”
