Vol. 2 Ch. 8
Vol. 2 Ch. 8
"The hospital was quiet. In the hallway, with no one passing by, Josh stood with a few other bodyguards. Chase lay in a hospital room, and only his manager, Laura, and the head of the security team were with him. The rest of the staff had been ordered to wait in the hallway.
During the rushed drive to the hospital, Chase never once opened his eyes. Completely unconscious, his breathing was faint, almost as if he had already died. Of course, that wasn’t something to say out loud. Josh had prepared himself to perform chest compressions at any moment, bringing along a portable defibrillator. As he kept watch beside him, his mind raced with countless thoughts. But the most prominent image that burned into his mind was the blood that stained Chase’s body.
Worried that he might choke on his own blood, Josh placed his head on his thigh, pressing his hand to hold it in place, not forgetting to keep it steady.
Thankfully, he didn’t throw up any more blood while unconscious. The only issue was that he hadn’t opened his eyes at all.
When they barely made it to the hospital, they rushed Chase to the emergency room. Despite the doctors surrounding him, performing all kinds of tests, Chase remained unresponsive.
Josh cursed himself for his anxious thoughts, but the thoughts kept swirling in his mind. Chase’s pale face haunted him, and the blood that had covered his entire body kept replaying in his mind.
My god, maybe all the blood in his body drained out.
Huff.
With a sigh, Josh pressed a hand to his forehead and realized only then that he was trembling. It’s okay. The doctors will handle it. He repeated the words silently, trying to calm himself. It’s okay, we’re at the hospital now. He’ll be fine, he’ll wake up soon.
Soon.
“Josh.”
At the sound of his name, Josh snapped his head up to see Mark watching him. His furrowed brow showed his concern. Josh blinked in a daze as Mark asked.
“Are you tired? Shocked?”
“Huh? Ah... no, just a little.”
