Chapter 251: What Do You Mean You Can’t Read It?
One broken-down wall turned into ten, then 20, and at some point, Aoni began ignoring how many times they'd entered a room only to come up empty.
It really shouldn't come as a surprise, though, considering these ruins were ungodly old, or so he and Anthony believed.
And with the lack of bodies or decaying materials, it was incredibly difficult to narrow down a time frame, especially when factors such as a LITERAL WAR and High Energia levels were put in play.
Entering yet another destroyed room that could have easily been either a bedroom or dining hall since it was on the first floor, Aoni sighed heavily and was about to turn to leave when he noticed something.
On the far wall was some type of faded mural, or what was left of one, that is.
"Hey, Ant, I found something!" He hollered with hands cupped to his mouth since there was no telling how far away his brother was at the moment.
Having already called for backup, Aoni took it upon himself to investigate further, by of course, running up to the mural and running his hands all over its surface in an attempt to find any type of hidden mechanism or trigger some kind of effect…all of which were to no avail.
"Dude…didn't I warn you not to use your grubby fingers to touch anything? We have no idea if there are hidden mechanisms or traps in this place, yet you seem to find it perfectly reasonable to go touching every little thing." Suddenly appearing beside Aoni and delivering a punishment chop to his youngest brother's head, Anthony scolded while ignoring the dramatic fall to the ground and squealing in pain coming from his right.
"It's another one of these strange paintings, er…I guess painting is the wrong name for it because it is more of a carving on thin material than paint on canvas." Thinking aloud and manifesting a layer of Energia over his hand, Ant lightly grazed the surface of the mural, which was coated in an uncountable number of runes and inscriptions.
"Hmmm…"
At that moment, Aoni suddenly revived and bounced up beside his brother before leaning in and waiting for an explanation.
Yet, even after several minutes, apart from random Hmms or clicks of a tongue, Ant still said nothing…it went on for so long that Aoni, being extremely impatient, finally spoke up, breaking his brother's concentration.
"So, what is it, some kind of language? Oh, oh, what does it say?"
"…" Slowly turning to look at Aoni with dead eyes, Anthony smacked his lips in a gesture that clearly ran in the family before sighing lightly and shrugging his shoulders.
"No clue, could be literally anything."
"…"
"…"
"The FUCK DO YOU MEAN NO CLUE?" Aoni screamed while gripping Ant by the robes for the umpteenth time today.
"I said what I said; I have no clue what it says. I haven't ever seen this language before, nor the runes, so basically…I can't read it." Blinking several times and keeping a straight face, Anthony replied, sending Aoni over the edge as he violently began shaking him.
"What do you MEAN you Can't read it? What kind of fucking mage CANT READ RUNIC INSCRIPTIONS?"
"Aoni, you're going to stretch out my robe…"
"Screw your robe. I could craft something ten times better than this: STOP TRYING TO CHANGE THE TOPIC!"
"How can YOU, a Big Shot 5th Circle Mage, not understand Runes? Aren't you supposed to be a massive nerd, like one that's 200% nerdier than Artie?"
"Nerd…hey, don't bring Artie into this, that's rude." Bringing up both arms with practiced expertise gained by years of escaping Carla, Ant stepped back and avoided the raging Aoni.
"What good is all that studying and reading you do if it can't help us decipher some random ass ancient text? Shit, ISN'T IT ALL ANCIENT TEXT."
"That's like saying fire and water are the same thing because they are both forms of Energia." With a snort, Ant rolled his eyes, looked back at the mural a second time, and turned to leave.
"I have no idea what it says, but given it's just a mural on the first floor of the palace, it's pretty easy to assume that it isn't anything special. Maybe at one time, it was an expensive decoration or something of that nature, but now, it's not only damaged beyond repair but holds zero Energia, aka USELESS."
{'Brodder brodder, Glaci found door!'}
Right before Aoni could strike back and continue the argument with Anthony, Glacia's sweet voice entered his mind, causing him to reach out and catch Ant by the sleeve swiftly.
"Hold up, Glacia just told me she found a door."
---
After telling Glacia to stay put, Aoni, using his connection to her through the LoS, easily navigated through the destroyed palace, down several flights of crumbling stairs, and eventually found her standing in front of a sealed 30-foot giant stone door littered with millions upon millions of tiny runes.
"Gaooo ooOo gao gaoooo gaoOoO!"
Seeing the brothers coming down the last few steps, Glacia threw herself at Aoni and began babbling while pointing at the door with a furry arm.
{'Brodder, Glaci was walkin and walkin till I smelt sometin tasty, and den I jumped ober som stuffs and ran super fast like WOOOSH wasshhh, till I foundeded dis!'}
"Okay, okay, calm down; you did great, Glacia; we couldn't have found this place without your help." Fighting the urge to snuggle the adorable floof in his arms as he heard her babbling, Aoni quickly explained what she said to Ant in normal words, causing his brother to frown hard.
"She smelled something tasty… I don't have to explain it to you for that pea-sized brain of yours to understand what that means, right?" Ant stated while spreading out his aura and moving closer to the door.
"Yeah, it ITS TOTALLY A TREASURY, RIGHT, RIGHT?" Shifting Glacia into a position not unlike a parent carrying a small child on their hip, Aoni chirped while bouncing her excitedly.
"GAOOO!"
{'Tweasure, Glaci found da tweasureeee!'} His actions set Glacia off into a hyperfit as she happily joined Aoni in a little dance while being held, completely unbothered by her current posture.
"Sigh…why do I even try…if Glacia could SMELL something Tasty, and she's only at Grade 2, don't you think that a monster WAY stronger than her would have long since tried breaking into this place? Why use that fucking rock between your shoulders for something other than headbutts for once in your life."
