Chapter 190: Seed of Power
Halfway through the punch, Ethan regretted it. He suddenly remembered—there was someone else in the house.
His college roommate, JJ.
But momentum couldn't be undone.
Thud…
Ethan managed to shift the trajectory of his punch at the last second, redirecting it from JJ's face to his shoulder.
"Ow!" JJ yelped, stumbling back and landing on the floor.
Ethan quickly stepped forward to help him up, looking sheepish. "Uh… you didn't go to school today?"
JJ groaned, clutching his shoulder. "You're asking me? Your stupid door locks from the inside too, and there's nothing in the fridge. I'm starving… and now my shoulder's killing me."
Ethan pulled him to his feet, awkwardly opening the fridge to check. Sure enough, it was empty. Inside, he found a note:
"Ethan, I cleared everything out. Didn't know when you'd be back, didn't want stuff going bad. —Lyla"
"Uh… let's just order some takeout. I'll stock up the fridge tomorrow," Ethan said, scratching the back of his head.
He felt a little guilty. He'd completely forgotten JJ was staying over. The security system in this house was too advanced—unless you were registered in the system, you couldn't open the door from the inside or outside. Last night, he'd told JJ there was food in the fridge. And there had been… before. He didn't know Lyla cleared it out before she left.
She'd probably done it to make sure Ethan didn't come home and eat something expired without checking. He hadn't eaten yet either, planning to cook something when he got back. Now, takeout it was.
Holding the note Lyla left in the fridge, Ethan felt a warmth in his chest. He knew she'd done it to keep him from eating something bad.
After a quick bite, Ethan hurried into the world of Ethereal.
JJ asked for Ethan's in-game ID, wanting to join him, but Ethan made up an excuse and declined. He didn't have time to waste.
Using the [Teleport: Dreamwood Grove] skill, Ethan arrived at his destination. He didn't have time to admire the scenery. Following the quest prompt, he approached a plant—or rather, a seed about the size of a basketball.
After a brief interaction with it, Ethan handed over three Prismatic Stones and the four Artifact-tier weapons that obviously, he was meant to only look at, not keep. The seed began to glow with a dazzling array of colors.
Radiant beams of light shot out from the seed, swirling around before diving back in, creating a mesmerizing cycle. The seed slowly began to sprout, its vines and leaves intertwining as it grew.
The outline of a spear began to take shape.
Ethan watched in awe. He hadn't expected the weapon to grow like this. He wasn't sure how long it would take, but he decided to wait.
