?Chapter 66: Chapter 64: Chu Feng’s Trial Begins, Visit by the Cloaked Figure Chapter 66: Chapter 64: Chu Feng’s Trial Begins, Visit by the Cloaked Figure Luo Yong and Wang Weiguo, after learning the inside story, decided to cut through the mess with a swift decision to ensure the smooth start of the trial.
Although Chu Feng was impulsive, he did have a reason for his actions.
Moreover, everyone had arrived, and the trial was about to begin; how could they possibly replace someone at this point?
Luo Yong pulled Zhang Ran aside, warned her, and asked her to clarify the rumors.
Wang Weiguo, having no other choice, instructed Wang Erbao to keep a close eye on Chu Feng and prevent him from acting on impulse again.
But he knew in his heart that this was only a temporary solution.
When facing outsiders, the two always stood united, each more daring than the last.
If Chu Feng wanted to chop someone, Wang Erbao would have the guts to pass him the knife!
Zhao Fan and Li Siyun, having resolved their worries, came to thank Chu Feng and once again expressed their hope to join his team with Wang Erbao.
Chu Feng had not intervened just for their sake.
But his formidable strength and unstoppable bravery had obviously given them a strong sense of security.
Unfortunately, Chu Feng immediately replied apologetically, “Sorry, we don’t team up with burdens.”
In the disappointed gazes of the two, Chu Feng and Wang Erbao’s figures, one in front of the other, disappeared into the milky fog.
…
“Here, put this on!” Chu Feng pulled out two gas masks from his backpack, donned one himself, and tossed the other to Wang Erbao.
The latter caught it in one move, putting it on his face while asking, “What are you carrying this thing for?”
Chu Feng’s voice came through the gas mask with a buzzing sound, “Remember the mushrooms in the eye sockets of the Bloodskin Ghost Demon?
“With fungi involved, I’ve always been worried about the spread of spores or something like that. It feels safer with a mask on.”
Wang Erbao nodded in understanding, as there had indeed been similar cases of severe disease transmission in history.
Although it was not mentioned in the textbooks, the Bloodskin Monster had the ability to spread diseases.
But if those things were truly the “Bloodskin Ghost Demons” Chu Feng spoke of, the textbooks could not be fully trusted.
Moreover, the information recorded in them isn’t always correct, as they are revised every year.
Advancing one after the other along the periphery of the domain, the visibility within the fog gradually decreased.
“Mad Dog, for this trial, are we not teaming up with others and just the two of us?” Wang Erbao, observing the increasingly dense fog around them, asked in a low voice.
Chu Feng, too, lowered his voice and laughed, “What’s the matter? Does Young Master Wang, who is unafraid of heaven and earth, also have his fears?”
Wang Erbao shook his head, “It’s not fear; I just feel this place is a bit eerie. The moment we entered, I felt a chill all over.”
Chu Feng gazed into the fog at the sparse trees and nodded, “I have the same feeling. It might be due to this fog.
“But the more peculiar it is inside, the less helpful it is to have more people.
“In case of danger, I, your brother-in-law, can fight with one hand and carry you to safety with the other.
“With two more people, we wouldn’t be able to handle it so easily.”
Not bothering to argue with Chu Feng’s self-proclaimed role, Wang Erbao asked:
“Do you have any plan then? We can’t just wander around aimlessly like headless flies.”
Chu Feng shrugged: “Speaking of plans, I don’t really have one.
“Let’s first scope out the range of the Bloodskin Ghost Demons and kill a few as achievements for the trial.”
“Leaving empty-handed doesn’t look good.”
Having no objections, Wang Erbao followed Chu Feng, advancing slowly.
…
…
The central area of the Blood Tree Demon Realm.
This place looked exactly like a primeval forest, with trees large enough to be surrounded by four or five people everywhere.
The huge canopies of the trees were squeezed tightly together, forming a cover that blocked out the sunlight.
What set it apart from regular forests was that the bark of these trees was a sinister blood-red color!
Each of the large trees had a rough vertical slit on them.
Some tightly merged together, but others had already opened, revealing five rows of sharp teeth and a dark, deep cavity!
Beneath the trees with gaping maws and exposed fangs gathered numerous Bloodskin Ghost Demons.
From time to time, Spirit-level Changmos over two meters tall would lug chunks of blood-drenched flesh from afar, piling them under the tree.
Some were of already deceased Changmos, while others still wore tattered True Armor, clearly the corpses of human Martial Artists who had died in battle.
Taller Soldier-level Changmos squatted beside the pile of flesh, stripping away the True Armor and mixed-in weapons from the meat, tossing them aside.
Then, they respectfully held up the chunks of flesh and offered them to the Minister-level Changmos standing at the forefront.
The Minister-level Changmos took the chunks, muttering words akin to prayers with their vicious mouths, before stuffing the flesh into the gaping maw of the Blood Tree.
As the flesh entered the mouth, the crevice immediately closed, masticating without regard whether the flesh was human or Changmo.
It didn’t even spare the bones, producing horrifying crunching noises as blood, yet to coagulate, trickled slowly down from beneath the slit.
Changmos waited respectfully under the tree, motionless.
After chewing for quite a while, the crevice suddenly pulsated, swallowing the flesh as if a human were ingesting food.
Soon after, the crevice opened again, and a blood-red, hollow, wooden tube slowly extended from within.
The Minister-level Changmo roared, and immediately a Soldier-level Changmo handed over a large earthen jar.
If any Hunter were present, they would be utterly shocked.
When did these brainless “Bloodskin Monsters” learn to use tools, even making pottery!?
The Minister-level Changmo, holding the earthen jar, waited beneath the tube.
Subsequently, a pale brown, viscous liquid began to flow slowly from the tube.
The moment the liquid appeared in the air, it instantly released a bizarre scent.
This odor resembled that of rotting apples, a stench intertwined with a sickly sweet fragrance.
The Spirit-level and Soldier-level Changmos around them became agitated the instant the smell emerged.
The eyeballs on the mushroom caps stared intently at the pale brown liquid, their ugly faces filled with greed.
A low growl from the Minister-level Changmo finally calmed the surrounding Demon Spirits and Demon Soldiers.
Once the liquid from the tube was depleted and slowly retracted back into the crevice, which then sealed shut.
Only then did the Minister-level Changmo, with the jar in his arms, leave with the Demon Soldiers and Demon Spirits, heading towards a distant thatched cottage to set down the jar.
Underneath many other Blood Trees, numerous teams of Bloodskin Ghost Demons repeated similar tasks.
…
In the center of the forest lay a clearing spanning thousands of square meters.
This clearing sat at the core of the forest, surrounded by blood-colored trees which eerily grew in the opposite direction.
Towards the direction of the clearing, it seemed as if not even a single branch was willing to stretch over.
The Blood Tree canopy above also avoided this area, leaving a large patch of pale sky exposed.
Just then, a series of roars came from beyond the clearing!
A large group of Bloodskin Ghost Demons surrounded a slender, small figure, their malevolent gazes fixed on it, yet they did not attack.
They were merely monitoring and escorting it towards the clearing.
The figure was dressed in black, with a hood concealing their face.
Upon closer inspection, it was unmistakably a human female!
The cloaked figure’s legs trembled nonstop as she walked slowly towards the clearing.
Getting closer, one could hear the “klack, klack, klack” of teeth chattering from beneath the hood!
Dragging her weary legs, she entered the clearing.
At this moment, the Bloodskin Ghost Demons stopped at the edge of the clearing, all lowering their heads.
Taking a deep breath, the figure spoke with a voice filled with fear,
“Mother… Mother Tree, I… I bring to You the sincere blessings of the committee.
“And… the most precious offering!”
