“Mu Lin, where did you just go?” Upon spotting Mu Lin, Jing Youlan walked over quickly saying, “We’ve killed the wild boar, but Yan Tao said we need to soak it in hot water before we scrape off the fur.” He cut his sentence midway upon noticing a large iron basin by Mu Lin’s side. He reached out to take it but realized that the person holding it was his eldest cousin, which left him utterly dumbfounded.
“Big… big brother, why are you… here?” Seeing Jing Chen, Jing Youlan felt inexplicably constrained, as if bound hand and foot.
Though Jing Chen was technically Jing Youlan’s elder cousin, within the family, it was mainly Jing Youlan and the second child of Jing’s family who would call him ‘big brother’. The elders said it brought them closer. Of course, being close didn’t mean he wasn’t afraid of him.

“I didn’t abandon you.” However, Jing Chen’s reply seemed completely beside the point.
He didn’t abandon her; he only wanted her to get trained, because he couldn’t guarantee that he could protect her all the time during the missions. He didn’t want to see her get hurt.
However, looking at it now, he might have been overthinking it. Surely the legendary Poison Doctor couldn’t be this simple.
Mu Lin was speechless at his non-responsive answer, while Jing Youlan was stifling laughter.
In all honesty, this was the first time he had seen his elder cousin acting like this, answering a question that wasn’t actually a question with such a serious and earnest look. Jing Youlan thought anyone could tell that the word ‘abandon’ was merely a figure of speech in Mu Lin’s context.
