Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva

Chapter 349 106: Returning to the Old Site

Chapter 349 106: Returning to the Old Site

In the morning, the reunited club members were seated in a vehicle, discussing recent events.

"Just ahead is the core district of Jielou City. It's said that some elders still reside there, using Autonomous Units from the past to seal the underground entrance," said Guluo, sharing the intelligence he had gathered over the days.

"The gangs in the surrounding area have been almost completely cleared by us, it's time to have a look inside."

"Jielou City, huh? I've heard people talk about it before. They say the ceremonies at the end of summer are quite a sight," Ruby said thoughtfully.

"That's true, there are still plenty of videos online," Phyllis adjusted her glasses.

As the discussions continued, Tilan sat by the window, gazing at the rapidly approaching scenery, her mind wandering. She wondered who might still be left inside now. Logically, there shouldn't be many. She had previously asked her uncle, and most of those who remained were the old people without children, who were too old and unwilling to relocate.

"They probably want to be buried here. There are some things I don't want to forcibly change, so I just let them be," Gu Qianlou had said at the time.

In one corner of the carriage, Deloris curiously sized up Efnie, making the latter a bit embarrassed.

"What's wrong?" she couldn't help but ask.

"You advanced?" The two of them had always been at Sequence 3, ranking at the bottom of the club, but no one really cared about her Transcendent Profession given Deloris's status.

"Yes, although it took a long time, I finally succeeded," Efnie twirled her blonde hair with her fingers, her voice inevitably carrying a hint of joy.

"Is it a Perfect Level Profession?" Deloris knew that if it were anything less, Efnie wouldn't sound so relaxed.

"Yes, that's right." As she spoke, her fingertips stirred, and dozens of ping-pong ball-sized orange Fireballs moved smoothly around her hand, yet they were incredibly stable and impervious to burns.

"Congratulations."

"Thank you, but I really owe it to the club president for clearing my doubts," remembered Efnie, thinking back to the previous night.

"Did Tilan help you advance?"

"Yes."

"I understand," Deloris replied in such a way. Although there was no sign of unhappiness on the face of the heiress in a black lace dress, it felt like she still cared a great deal.

The large vehicle continued its journey until it stopped several minutes later.

"We're here, let's go down."

The group jumped out of the vehicle, observing the distinctly different architectural style of the surrounding city.

"Indeed, the style is quite different, there's a sort of ancient charm to it."

"I mean, this place must have been bustling in the past too. It doesn't seem much different from Lebyon."

"Let's walk ahead, I think I see signs of other people."

After progressing a short distance further, sure enough, they encountered a group of gang members launching an ambush.

Smoke billowing rockets flew out one after another, targeting the group from various directions. Soon after, machine guns were set up, unleashing a downpour of bullets from hundreds of meters away.

"Take cover!" Xie Lian drew his gun quickly, hitting a nearby incoming rocket and causing it to explode prematurely, spewing fire in all directions.

The fates of the other rockets were different though; two were split in half by Tilan's Sword Edge, and another was intercepted by Efnie.

When the Fireball and the rocket collided and exploded, the spreading shockwave was blocked by the spherical barrier in front of Efnie, also shielding Deloris and Ruby behind her.

"This time, let me handle it," Efnie requested to strike first, and Tilan granted her permission. Then, the Flame Goldfish Princess leaped up and quickly descended, her golden, flowing hair spreading in the air like sparks, while at her side, one by one, the orange-red fireballs gathered and formed.

These fireballs followed Efnie's movements, growing brighter by the second, and in just a few moments, their intense white light was nearly blinding. Then, with a flick of her fingers, Efnie sent the fireballs zipping out like swimming fish, weaving through the ruins and swiftly pursuing the hidden gang members before exploding violently.

The liquid-like flames melted some exposed metals, and the ferocity of the fireballs struck terror into the hearts of the enemies, as if half their bodies were being roasted alive.

The immense power of the flames quickly shattered the psychological defenses of the gang members; some simply threw down their weapons and started to run for their lives, hoping to quickly escape the formidable Flame Goldfish Princess.

In response, Efnie waved her arm again, sending another group of burning orange-red fireballs flying. These pursued the fleeing figures even faster, but compared to the earlier ones, these were clearly less powerful, to avoid cooking the people instantly into oblivion.

After defeating the gang that had ambushed them on the road, Tilan and her companions learned of their identity.

"So, you guys are from the Leopard Head Gang. I've heard a lot about you," Kinsenke said, tapping one of them on the cheek with his gun before looking them over.

"Where's your boss?"

"He's inside the old site of Jielou City. Please don't kill me; I can show you the way," this gang member, quick to see which way the wind was blowing, readily offered up the information of his boss when he saw no escape.

After all, they were gangsters; there was no need to hold high expectations for their resolve. And after some questioning, the group slowly pieced together why they were here.

"The boss wanted to find someone to translate some things," recalled one of the gang members.

"It's because the boss found some good stuff in a relic recently, but some of the documents were written in ancient texts not many people understand these days. The writing is incomplete; it seems necessary to deduce the missing parts from the context," another added.

"So, that led you to Jielou City?" Yalian immediately became interested when he heard about ancient texts.

"Yes, the boss said that although Jielou City had been relocated, there should still be some old folks here who could help him complete the translation. That's why we came looking."

"Where is your boss now?"

"He's underground; he went down two days ago and told us to hold the fort. He said he'd take us to a better life afterward."

"What do you mean by a better life?"

"Of course, plenty of food and drink, women too," the base instincts of life were still so simple and unadorned.

After that, no more valuable information could be squeezed from the gang members. It seemed the boss, Haus, rarely shared secrets with his subordinates, revealing only what was essential.

"So, what level of strength does your boss have now?" Finally, Valke asked a crucial question.

"That... probably Sequence 5 or Sequence 6? We're not sure ourselves," they replied. Most of them were only at Sequence 1 or Sequence 2 and couldn't discern the differences in power levels among the higher Sequences.

"That's what happens when you don't study well; even selling information can hardly be of value," someone in the group remarked sarcastically.

"Shall we go down too?" After that statement, everyone's gaze returned to the dark-haired young girl in the back. It was only then that the captive realized that the leader of this group was the fragile-looking girl behind them.

"Let's go down as well, but we'll have to speed up," not just here, but the time for their training was also drawing to a close.

Under the azure sky, as the sun began to slant westward, the youthful silhouettes leaped into the city's underground entrance one after another.

Because the power had long been cut, the entrance that a year before had seen crowds of people now lay pitch black, like some gargantuan mouth of darkness swallowing past travelers.

"Back here again," the girl thought to herself as she descended into the underground passage, but this time, she did not possess the same hesitance and confusion as before.
