Chapter 71 - 71 70 Coming to Show Diligence to Brother_2

?Chapter 71: Chapter 70 Coming to Show Diligence to Brother_2 Chapter 71: Chapter 70 Coming to Show Diligence to Brother_2 Sheng Xian: “New Year’s Eve.”

Lu Jingyan: “…”

She certainly knew it was New Year’s Eve; her question was about where they were going to celebrate it.

Before Lu Jingyan could ask again, the car turned onto a familiar street.

Lu Jingyan glanced at Sheng Xian, words forming one by one in his mind.

He, couldn’t, possibly, be, planning, to, take, her, home…
Before he could even conjure up the word “right,” Sheng Xian’s car turned into the underground parking lot of his residential complex.

Lu Jingyan glanced at Sheng Xian again.

After parking the car and seeing Lu Jingyan’s somewhat peculiar expression, worried that she might say something shocking, he preempted by saying, “Aren’t you hungry and wanting to eat ramen?”

“…”

“I’ll cook it at home.”

They reached the floor where Sheng Xian lived, and the elevator doors opened; Sheng Xian walked out first.

Lu Jingyan was just about to follow him when Sheng Xian, as if suddenly remembering something, raised his hand to press the elevator door-close button.

Lu Jingyan, left alone in the elevator, was stunned for a moment before hastily pressing the button to open the elevator again.

As the elevator doors opened, she saw Sheng Xian stuffing a black bag, contents unknown, into the top shelf of the shoe cabinet.

Seeing her come out, Sheng Xian closed the shoe cabinet nonchalantly and placed the ugly pair of men’s slippers she had worn last time in front of her.

Lu Jingyan, wearing a look of disgust, asked while slipping on the slippers, “What was that about just now?”

Sheng Xian replied airily, “I’m used to going home alone; I forgot I had an additional you following.”

Lu Jingyan: “…”

She had seen people lie, but never someone who could lie so blatantly with open eyes.

Lu Jingyan pouted, watching Sheng Xian open the door and suddenly lifted her head to glance at the top shelf of the shoe cabinet, “You came out first to hide something, right?”

Sheng Xian didn’t respond and walked into the house.

Lu Jingyan followed him inside, closed the door, and asked again, “What’s in that black bag that can’t be seen?”

Sheng Xian still didn’t respond and went to the kitchen to wash his hands. He then opened the fridge and took out some fruits, a bag of ramen, two eggs, and a bunch of leafy greens.

Lu Jingyan leaned lazily against the kitchen door frame, watching Sheng Xian bustling about, suddenly teased, “Brother, you’re not hiding slippers, are you?”

Sheng Xian paused in his fruit washing.

With his back to her, unaware of her observations, she continued casually, “Pink ones.”

“…”

“Size 6.”

“…”

Sheng Xian placed the washed strawberries and grapes onto a plate and handed it to Lu Jingyan, “You’re not asleep yet, you’re already dreaming.”

Lu Jingyan rolled her eyes dramatically, took the plate, and popped a grape into her mouth.

The grapes from Sheng Xian were seedless and sweet.

Lu Jingyan picked the most beautiful one and held it close to Sheng Xian’s mouth, “Try one?”

The young girl’s skin was already fair; it seemed almost luminescent compared to the deep purple grapes.

Sheng Xian looked at her fingers holding the grape for a few seconds, then turned away, “You eat it.”

“You don’t like grapes?” Lu Jingyan tossed the grape into her mouth, then picked the biggest strawberry and offered it to Sheng Xian, “Then have a strawberry?”

Sheng Xian still had that icy cool demeanor, his gaze on the strawberry she was holding, as he thought of bending over but felt a bit sick.

He had been regularly visiting a psychologist, truly hoping to see progress, but even after trying for a while, realized it just wasn’t working.

Sheng Xian swallowed hard, his eyelids drooping as he skillfully washed the vegetables, and said faintly, “I don’t eat them.”

He didn’t eat grapes, nor strawberries.

Then why on earth did he buy them?

Lu Jingyan curled his lips, pinched a strawberry and took a bite, “Where did you buy these strawberries? They’re pretty tasty.”

“The supermarket next door.”

Lu Jingyan gave a sound of acknowledgement and fell silent.

After eating two strawberries, he placed the plate on the side table and headed to the living room.

As he walked around the living room, he found Sheng Xian’s home felt even more deserted than his own spacious villa.

Lu Jingyan stared at the cold, spiritless living room for a while, then pulled out his phone and sent a few messages.

Before long, Lu Jingyan’s phone vibrated.

He picked it up, glanced at it, then walked over to the door and opened it.

Less than a minute later, the elevator door across from him opened, and a delivery person came out, carrying several bags.

Lu Jingyan thanked him and brought the bags into Sheng Xian’s home.

After Sheng Xian finished cooking noodles, he came out of the kitchen and immediately noticed a large bunch of French-style flowers placed in the center of the dining table.

He paused, then turned his head towards the living room.

A schoolgirl was sitting on the couch with her legs crossed, cracking sunflower seeds.

His rarely-used TV was on, broadcasting a New Year’s Eve gala.

There was also a bouquet of flowers on the coffee table, surrounded by various candies and nuts.

Sheng Xian froze on the spot.

He suddenly realized why people celebrated holidays.

He also discovered that celebrating a holiday once in a while was pretty nice after all.

Lu Jingyan turned to look towards the dining table.

Naturally, Sheng Xian placed a soup bowl on the table and said to her, “Come and eat.”

Lu Jingyan hopped off the couch and came over.

Sheng Xian took two small bowls, served her a bowl first, and placed it in front of her.

Lu Jingyan thanked him and picked up a noodle with her chopsticks.

It was unexpectedly delicious.

Neither of them usually ate late-night snacks, but fortunately, the amount of noodles Sheng Xian cooked wasn’t much, so they didn’t waste much.

After Lu Jingyan finished the last sip of soup in her bowl and put down her chopsticks, a countdown voice came from the TV.

As cheers erupted from the TV, the new year had arrived.

Lu Jingyan’s phone beside her rang.

She picked it up, clicked into WeChat, and saw that Sheng Xian, pinned at the top of her chat, had sent her a red envelope.

At the same time, Sheng Xian’s voice came from across, “Happy New Year.”

“Happy New Year.”

Lu Jingyan returned Sheng Xian’s New Year’s greetings and collected the red envelope.

Probably for good luck, Sheng Xian had sent 188.88 yuan.

Since Professor Sheng sent her a red envelope first, Lu Jingyan felt it was a bit strange to send one back to him right away.

She pondered for a few seconds, then looked up and asked, “Do you have scissors?”

Not knowing what she was up to, Sheng Xian nevertheless got up and fetched her some scissors.

Lu Jingyan took the scissors, pulled down the hair tie that was holding her hair up.

Her long hair cascaded down around her shoulders. She took the scissors and swiftly cut off the decorative piece from the hair tie, then wrapped the remaining elastic around her ring finger, cutting off the excess with the scissors.

She handed the small piece of hair tie left to Sheng Xian, “New Year’s gift.”

“…”

“It’s the size of my ring finger.”
