Chapter 77 - 77 75 My Wife
Chapter 77 - 77 75 My Wife
?Chapter 77: Chapter 75 My Wife Chapter 77: Chapter 75 My Wife Lu Jingyan: “…”
This is just one big hellish scene, so awkward she wished she could just bite her tongue and die on the spot.
She desperately tried to smooth things over, but she found that the situation tonight had completely capsized, with no way to salvage it.
Lu Jingyan looked at Sheng Xian, opened her mouth, and realizing she didn’t know what to say, chose to remain silent.
Sheng Xian let go of his phone, reclined lazily on the sofa, and looking at Little Fish who seldom found herself speechless, he raised his brows playfully, “I didn’t expect our Little Fish to be quite the player.”
Lu Jingyan’s hand trembled, nearly causing her to slide off the sofa onto the floor.
The feeling of guilt intensified, bringing an inexplicable nervousness over her.
It was really strange, those were things of the past, yet it seemed as if she was being caught red-handed cheating on him with another man.
Lu Jingyan felt she couldn’t keep silent any longer; she needed to defend herself.
After briefly pondering for a few seconds, Lu Jingyan lifted her head, looking seriously at Sheng Xian, “Do you have a virgin complex?”
Sheng Xian nearly choked on the wine he’d just sipped.
It took him a couple of seconds to react, stunned by her straightforward accusation.
How could this young lady dare to say just anything.
Bold as brass.
“I thought you were just conservative, but it turns out you are not conservative, you’re an antique,” Lu Jingyan said expressionlessly, “What era are we in that you still care about such things? It’s a shame you’re a university professor with such outdated, feudal thinking.”
Sheng Xian: “…”
He realized this student was quite good at turning things around. He hadn’t said anything, and yet he was being labeled with such a charge.
“Do you know what your behavior reminds me of? It’s like those men on their wedding night, who wake up the next day and search the bed for traces of virgin blood, not finding any, they start doubting whether their wife was a virgin, and anonymously post online, ‘I suspect my wife might not be a virgin, I’m so upset, should I divorce her?'”
Sheng Xian slowly exhaled, looked at her with a poker face, and said calmly, “First of all, I don’t have the complex you mentioned.”
“Secondly,” Sheng Xian paused, his gaze deepened as he stared at her for a while, “I wouldn’t mind my wife’s past, I would only care about my wife’s present and future.”
Lu Jingyan felt an inexplicable panic.
She was actually just irritated and wanted to salvage some dignity for herself, but she didn’t expect him to respond so seriously.
And the way he looked at her when he said the part after ‘secondly,’ was strange, making her feel that something was off.
Especially with him repeatedly saying ‘my wife,’ making her heartbeat inexplicably quicken.
Lu Jingyan swallowed hard, propped herself up on the table, and slowly stood up, “I’m going to the restroom.”
Without waiting for Sheng Xian to respond, she walked straight toward the restroom.
Lu Jingyan, what’s the matter with you?
He’s talking about ‘my wife,’ not you, why are you getting so worked up?
Since when did you get so empathetic?
Lu Jingyan stayed in the restroom until her emotions stabilized, then opened the door, stepped out of the stall, and leisurely washed her hands at the sink before returning to sit across from Sheng Xian.
The previous awkward and bizarre atmosphere had completely vanished during her absence.
Sheng Xian saw her return and glanced at her now-empty glass, “Want another drink?”
It was still early, and Lu Jingyan was not in a hurry to go back, “I’ll have another.”
Sheng Xian signaled the waiter over, as she wished.
Lu Jingyan could hold her liquor quite well, she was the type that becomes more lucid the more she drank.
She thought the fiasco with the two ex-boyfriends had passed, but there remained an uneasy feeling deep inside her.
And as her mind grew clearer, that unease only intensified.
She had dealt with jerks for years and never cared about what others thought of her.
She knew her reputation wasn’t good: a heartless woman who, thanks to her wealthy family, changed boyfriends as easily as changing clothes.
But she just didn’t want Sheng Xian to think that of her, too.
Initially, he was like those jerks in her phone, just another target of her pursuit, but at some point, things slowly changed.
She had never encountered this situation before, and now that she had, she didn’t know how to deal with it.
Annoyed, she slammed her glass down on the table with a ‘thud.’
Sheng Xian looked up at her, “What’s wrong?”
Lu Jingyan met his gaze and opened her mouth.
She wasn’t one to keep things inside; if she didn’t clarify this matter, she’d be unsettled for the following days.
Lu Jingyan decided to be straightforward, “There’s something I want to tell you.”
Sheng Xian took a tissue and wiped the liquid splashed across the table from her forcefully placed glass clean, “Mhm.”
Lu Jingyan bit her lip, “But I don’t know how to say it to you.”
Sheng Xian: “…”
Seeing Little Fish fall silent as if she were truly stumped, after a couple seconds of silence Sheng Xian suggested, “Why not just say it directly?”
Lu Jingyan: “Are you sure?”
Sheng Xian: “…”
Sheng Xian suddenly wasn’t so sure.
It was approaching midnight, and the bar was more crowded than before.
Sheng Xian glanced around, even less certain.
After a moment’s thought, to play it safe, he proposed, “How about you text me instead?”
Lu Jingyan thought it was a good suggestion, nodded, and picked up her phone.
Less than half a minute later, Sheng Xian’s phone on the table lit up.
Lu Jingyan: “Even if you do have a virgin complex, it’s not a big deal.”
