Innu had opened his mouth but then quickly closed it again. He wanted to say something, he wanted to say what happened, what he had seen. How Blake's father had been badly injured, that the chances of him being alive were close to zero.
How long had passed, surely he would have bled out by now, and if he hadn't bled out, then he might have even been eaten alive by Ylva. Going back now all to save Blake's father could put them all in danger.
Yet Innu was unable to say anything, how could he. It was because of Blake's father that they were alive, and he couldn't say it in front of Blake while he still had hope in his eyes.
"I don't think that's a good idea." Midwak said straight away. "Gary, you know what's happened, right? You know that your friends have all gone to the other Garden because Lupus is there.
"Even if they deliver the item to that vampire, you heard what Kai said. We can't trust them right now."
The words being used such as vampire had come as a shock, but with how all of the situation was unfolding, they had decided to let that go for now.
"The only one's we can trust is ourselves. We need to head out of here, get the others, and leave this city for good, to prepare for another day."
As Gary heard Midwak speak, he was wondering if that was the best option. Right now, Ylva was here in this Garden and she was alone. From what Midwak had told him, it was very dangerous to keep a Luna alive.
Sure, Lupus could just make another Luna, but in the middle of fighting, it would be impossible. Maybe this was the time to hurt Lupus the most, and Blake was right—he had done a lot to help the Howlers and had asked for nothing back.
"It's better for us," Gary said. "To help out here. We will look for Blake's father, that's the number one priority in all of this, and if we see Ylva, we need to eliminate her. With all of us, it shouldn't be a problem... I'm confident that I can beat her."
After taking on the Ironfang and not having to use his other forms, he felt like he could beat Ylva no matter what her powers were—even from everything he had heard.
"Thank you, Gary… thank you." Blake said.
Innu still wanted to speak up, but he didn't, because he remembered hearing about Gary beating Harvor. He wasn't worried about losing Gary, and maybe if he saw his father's body, it was the closure that he needed.
The group were ready to go, ready to move, but as they took one step, there was one objection.
"Wait!" Midwak shouted as he reached out to them. "I… I…"
"What's wrong, is there something else that we should be worried about or look out for?" Gary asked.
"Come on!" Blake shouted. "The longer we take, the less chance we have of my father being…" He didn't finish his sentence. He couldn't.
"I'm fine with going to rescue Blake's father." Midwak said. "But it's about the other thing you mentioned… Gary, I never thought I would be doing this, but please, if we come across Ylva, can we leave her be, can we not… kill her?"
The words from Midwak were unexpected, especially in a time like this. Was he trying to make everyone think he was the enemy? But then why would Midwak ask openly like this before they headed out?
Things were confusing for Gary, as he didn't know the whole picture like Kai did.
"What? Why should we leave that bitch alive!" Blake shouted. "She would have killed us all, she attacked my father as well!" Blake shouted. "It's clear you two have something going on—are you really on our side, Midwak?"
Blake had anger running through him, and so did Innu. The only person that was quite neutral in this entire position was Gary, and he was the one that needed to make the decision.
Right after Midwak heard Blake shout those words, he placed his knees on the ground.
"Please…" Midwak said. "I am a man who has done everything on his own. I have taken everything with me. Gary, I know how strong you are, I know what you can do. I have no doubt that you will be able to beat her… for my sake, please just let her go.
"Let's get Blake's father and get out of here. If you do me this favour, I promise you I will stay loyal to you and the Howlers. I will do everything you ask without a second thought. I will be forever in your debt."
Walking over, Gary reached out his hand to Midwak.
"Get up, Midwak. You kneeling on the ground, it doesn't suit you. If she gets in our way, I'll take her down, but I'll do my best to make sure she's alive."
Midwak smiled. He was satisfied with the answer and thought it was the best he was going to get.
"Follow me," Midwak said. "I know the quickest route to the cabin."
Midwak took the lead and the rest of the group had to follow, but there was one person that didn't agree.
'If I get the chance, I'll stab her right through her heart!' Blake thought, as he held onto the cloth that contained the black sword.
While the group was running toward the cabin, they could all hear a particular sound at the same time.
"WHOOO!"
It was a howl, but not just any howl, as it sounded almost melodic as it changed pitch in and out. It was pleasant to the ears.
"That's not good!" Midwak said. "That's the Luna's wolf song!"
