However, standing next to him, they all seemed somewhat lacking in spirit. His presence could easily be detected within the crowd at a single glance.
His face bore no smile or expression. Despite the fact that everyone was continuously shaking hands with him and trying their best to conceal their true feelings, traces of flattery or respect could still be perceived.
Right when everyone was exchanging pleasantries, Nanny Lin suddenly called out, “Mr. Chen—”
Upon hearing the voice, Liang Chen slightly turned his head. The instant he saw Jing Haohao, he hesitated. Then, he quickly turned his head to tell the surrounding crowd something before striding over to where Jing Haohao was standing.
As soon as Liang Chen approached, he noticed that Jing Haohao’s face was covered in sweat and her clothes were clinging to her skin.
She was wearing a white dress which had become somewhat transparent due to the sweat, revealing the outline of her underwear. Liang Chen frowned slightly. He reached up and loosened his tie, then took off his suit jacket. He draped it over Jing Haohao and then turned to Nanny Lin and the driver standing behind her, criticizing them angrily, “It’s such a hot day and you don’t think to take her somewhere cooler?”
Nanny Lin and the driver dared not breathe under Liang Chen’s stern rebuke.
Jing Haohao, already feeling hot, felt even hotter with the addition of the jacket. She reached up to pull it off.
Liang Chen looked displeased as he reached up to yank the jacket tightly around Jing Haohao.
She was much shorter than him. With his jacket on her, she looked as if she were wearing a coat. The way he tightened the jacket wrapped her up securely, leaving no gaps for the wind to get through.
Only then did his expression soften a bit. Raising his chin, he asked, “Why are you guys here? What happened?”
“Miss Jing was looking for you…”
“Why didn’t you go inside to find me? Why are you standing outside under the sun? Even sunbathing needs to be done at the right time!”
“They said she couldn’t go inside because she wasn’t dressed properly!” Nanny Lin answered honestly.
“Couldn’t you have called me?” As Liang Chen saw Jing Haohao’s white and tender skin turn red from the sun, a vague anger rose in his heart. He couldn’t help but snap at Nanny Lin.
Nanny Lin was so scared that she took a step back before whispering, “I did call you, but nobody picked up…”
Liang Chen wrinkled his brows as he pulled his phone from his pocket and saw several missed calls. He looked at the driver and said, “I gave you my business card. I can’t believe Golden Years had the audacity to prevent my people from entering!”
“We showed them the card, but they said it might be fake and insisted that we go home and change into formal attire if we wanted access. Miss Jing was in a hurry to meet you and thought it would take too long to go back and forth, so we decided to wait outside.”
“Is Yang Chen trying to court death, daring to stir trouble with Grandfather Tai Sui?” While talking, Liang Chen reached out and placed a hand on Jing Haohao’s shoulder. Heading towards the “Golden Years,” he said, “Now you go in with me, just as you are. I’d like to see who dares to stop us!”
