?Chapter 210: Chapter 211 Narrow Path for Enemies (2)_1 Chapter 210: Chapter 211 Narrow Path for Enemies (2)_1 Fang Lu and Jing Haohao didn’t meet up purely for shopping. After lunch, they wandered through the mall, pulling from clothing racks anything they fancied. Fang Lu would try them on, then stop to analyze her reflection, asking Jing Haohao for her opinion.
Despite being in the entertainment industry together, Fang Lu rarely spoke about it. Born into a wealthy family and married through a strategic alliance, both she and her husband were rich. She was inept at business; so instead, she used her money to delve into the entertainment industry. When talking with Jing Haohao, most of their conversation revolved around gossip about the scandals of the wealthy — such as who’s keeping a mistress, whose wife recently caught their unfaithful husband, and how much they had to pay in compensation when the other woman jumped from a building in despair.
After only shopping for half an hour, Fang Lu was already carrying numerous bags. She linked arms with Jing Haohao, chuckling, “Fortunately, you don’t have to worry about an unhappy marriage — Liangnian will definitely not betray you now that you’re marrying him.”
Jing Haohao hadn’t yet informed Fang Lu about her split with Shen Liangnian. Caught off guard by Fang Lu’s remark, her complexion faltered. Before she could respond, Fang Lu pointed to a nearby jewelry store, saying, “I just remembered. There’s a charity banquet coming up in a few days. I brought a blue dress back from France, but I don’t have any suitable jewelry to wear with it. Come help me pick out something.”
With this abrupt change in topic, Fang Lu neatly sidestepped the mention of Shen Liangnian.
…
Lately, Shen Liangnian lacked interest in everything. He no longer showed the passion he used to have for Tianrong Company and even on days when an urgent meeting was in session, he would simply call to announce he was not coming in, causing work in the company to grind to a halt.
Many employees privately gossiped about Shen Liangnian, “If Mr. Shen continues like this, our year-end bonuses are going to be cut significantly.”
Qiao Wennuan, who often visited Tianrong Company, had heard these rumors. She occasionally mentioned it to Shen Liangnian, but he always appeared absent-minded, as if he had neither heard nor cared, maintaining the same disinterested attitude.
A few days after the first snowfall in Jiangshan City, it was Qiao Wennuan’s birthday. She called Shen Liangnian early in the morning to arrange a lunch together to celebrate.
Shen Liangnian had forgotten about Qiao Wennuan’s birthday. He only realized he hadn’t prepared a gift after she mentioned it during lunch, so afterwards, he took her to a nearby mall.
Qiao Wennuan could tell Shen Liangnian was merely keeping her company, aimlessly sauntering around the mall with her. There was no intent on his part to pick a gift out, and even when she found something she liked and asked his opinion, he’d simply nod and say, “If you like it, take it.”
The unspoken rejection stung, leaving Qiao Wennuan feeling wronged. But the one who loves more deeply, truly, is always the more vulnerable. She swallowed her disappointment and said nothing.
As Qiao Wennuan and Shen Liangnian took the elevator down from the fourth floor, Qiao Wennuan spotted a familiar face in the crowd.
