Fang Lu tried on the necklace she picked out, stood in front of the mirror, turned left and right and asked Jing Haohao:” So, how do I look?”
Jing Haohao looked at the tall, exquisite woman in the mirror, nodded, and said,” Quite pretty.”
Just after Jing Haohao spoke, she saw Shen Liangnian, who was standing behind her in the mirror, giving her a piercing stare. She paused and was about to avert her gaze when she saw Qiao Wennuan approach Shen Liangnian from the mirror. Wennuan gently raised her hand and pulled on Liangnian’s sleeve. She dangled a necklace in front of him and said,” Liangnian, I like this one.”
Jing Haohao instantly recognized the broken diamond necklace. It was identical to the one dangling from her own neck.
The necklace in Qiao Wennuan’s hand looked much newer and sparkled brighter compared to the seemingly dim necklace she was wearing.
This necklace was something Shen Liangnian had bought for her. When it had first come out, there was an attractive advertisement slogan for it: ‘A love that is true, until the end of time.’
Once upon a time, she had been the one standing in front of Shen Liangnian, joyfully saying,” Liangnian, I want this one.”
Now, another woman was telling the same man, almost identical words, with the same item in her hand.
Jing Haohao didn’t feel much when Shen Liangnian wasn’t around. But upon seeing him again with someone new by his side, she realized she wasn’t as indifferent as she thought.
Through the mirror, Jing Haohao watched as Qiao Wennuan asked the saleswoman to put the necklace around her neck. She elegantly swept her long hair up, lifted her slender chin slightly, tilted her head towards Shen Liangnian, and asked coquettishly,” Liangnian, do I look good?”
Through the mirror, Shen Liangnian kept his eyes on Jing Haohao, as if he hadn’t heard Qiao Wennuan’s voice, he didn’t react at all.
“If you don’t say anything, I’ll take it as a yes.” Qiao Wennuan turned her head, glanced at the saleswoman, and said,” Wrap this up for me.”
“I’ve finished paying, Haohao.” Fang Lu said as she walked over from the cashier with the receipt.
Only then did Jing Haohao come back to reality. She politely said “Goodbye” to Qiao Wennuan and Shen Liangnian.
She then left the store with Fang Lu.
Shen Liangnian stared at Jing Haohao as she walked out of the store until she disappeared from sight. He then turned his head and looked at the necklace Qiao Wennuan was wearing, and said,” Wennuan, take off this necklace, return it, I’ll wait for you outside.”
After Shen Liangnian finished speaking, he didn’t wait for Qiao Wennuan to protest and walked straight out of the store.
Shen Liangnian stood at the door, lit a cigarette, before he could take a puff, a woman walked up and handed him a bag, saying,” A lady asked me to give this to you.”
Shen Liangnian glanced at it and accepted the bag.
The bag was transparent. He could clearly see, it contained the necklace that had just been around Jing Haohao’s neck.
