?Chapter 288: Chapter 289: Accident (8)_1 Chapter 288: Chapter 289: Accident (8)_1 She wanted to escape quickly and stepped heavily on the gas pedal, zipping off in a hurry. Then, through the car window, she heard an earsplitting shriek.

Upon hearing the scream, Jing Haohao became stiff, instinctively peering through the rearview mirror. She saw Qiao Wennuan lying on the ground, her head smacked on the ground and fresh red blood flowing out.

The startling sight of red made Jing Haohao’s mind go blank.

She clearly remembered there was some distance between her car and Qiao Wennuan. Even at high speed, turning the way she did, she should not have hit her. At maximum, her car would only come a step close to her body.

What the hell happened? How did she end up hitting her?

For a long time, Jing Haohao was stunned before she desperately stomped on the brake.

Qiao Wennuan’s high-pitched scream alerted the staff of the parking lot. Seeing Qiao Wennuan lying on the ground, her head bleeding, nobody dared to come forward.

One quick-thinking person whipped out their phone and dialed 110 and 120.

The parking lot staff stopped Jing Haohao’s car, knocked on the window, and Jing Haohao belatedly rolled it down.

“Did you hit her?”

Jing Haohao’s face turned pallid, her lips pressed together, but she didn’t respond.

“We’ve reported the incident to the police and noted your license plate. There is surveillance footage in the parking lot. Please, don’t leave without permission, and wait for the police and ambulance to arrive,” they said.

Jing Haohao remained silent, seemingly deaf to what was being said. In her mind, she was still struggling with how she could have hit Qiao Wennuan.

The police and ambulance arrived at the parking lot one after the other.

Firstly, someone from the police car took several photos of Qiao Wennuan lying on the ground, followed by a couple of Jing Haohao’s car. Then, Qiao Wennuan was lifted onto the ambulance, which left quickly, probably due to the urgency of her situation.

Afterwards, someone from the police car came straight to Jing Haohao’s car and said, “Miss, please come with us to the police station.”

Jing Haohao, dazed, got out of her car and was led by two traffic policemen to the police car. They opened the door and let Jing Haohao sit in first before climbing in themselves. Then, the police car drove away from the parking lot.

Most traffic accidents are considered personal disputes. Jing Haohao and the police station personnel did not know the specifics of Qiao Wennuan’s injuries. Initially, the police merely took a simple statement from Jing Haohao.

The two officers recording the statement were probably accustomed to these accidents. There were no fatalities, and since Jing Haohao was a woman, their attitude was normal. After understanding some details, one older officer said, “Wait until the victim is awake, and you can discuss a private settlement. We’ve seen a lot of these cases. As long as there’s no major fatality and it’s not a drunk-driving case, issues are typically settled privately with some compensation. If you can’t settle it, then consider legal proceedings.”

Jing Haohao nodded in response.

The police officer stood up and continued, “Miss Jing, you can now call your family or friends to vouch for you. After that, you may leave.”
