?Chapter 430: Chapter 431: Meeting (3)_1 Chapter 430: Chapter 431: Meeting (3)_1 She felt Jin’s words like a pair of powerful slaps across her face, resounding and crisp.
She is so good… God knows, she is not good at all, she is just a mess… from head to toe, inside and out, she is filthy.
…
Generally, for dinner, Jing Haohao would keep Jin company, eating in the food court beneath the shopping mall.
The small town’s mall would close promptly at six in the evening. Jin hurriedly changed her clothes, rushed out, and shoved Jing Haohao to go change hers.
After waiting for five minutes, Jin stood outside the storage room and knocked on the door, calling “Haohao, are you ready yet?”
There was no sound from inside.
Jin pushed the door. It was not locked and she easily nudged it open. She saw Jing Haohao standing inside, staring fixedly at the storage room’s wall, her gaze vacant. She looked extremely pale, devoid of any color, as if she might faint any minute now.
Jin had never seen Jing Haohao like this before. Startled, she blurted out, “Haohao, you look really awful. Are you not feeling well?”
As she spoke, Jin raised her hand, touching Jing Haohao’s forehead, only to find it burning hot. “My God, you’re running a fever. I’m going to take you to the doctor right now.”
Only then did Jing Haohao snap back to reality, not having the strength to resist, yet still managing a forced smile. “It’s fine,” she said, “I won’t join you for dinner today. I should go home and rest.”
“Do you want me to accompany you?”
“No need, I’ll take a taxi home.”
“Alright then, be careful on the way.” Jin’s voice sounded somewhat reluctant.
Jing Haohao simply nodded slightly, not even uttering a word of goodbye before heading towards the door of the storage room.
“Haohao, you haven’t changed your clothes yet.”
Jing Haohao came back to her senses and uttered “Oh”. She didn’t mind the door that Jin had left open, raised her hand, and started undressing.
Jin gaped at Jing Haohao’s reaction, quickly closed the door, and watched Jing Haohao nervously. “Haohao, are you alright?”
Jing Haohao shook her head, silently changed her clothes, and slipped away from the mall like a lost soul.
The small town wasn’t populous. Even during the after-work peak hour, the roads remained remarkably smooth. Jing Haohao trudged a long while along the path laid with blue bricks before waking up to a halt.
It was late into the night at that point.
She couldn’t recognize her current location. Looking up, she surveyed her surroundings and saw a square not far away where many middle-aged women were line-dancing, playing the recent hit “Little Apple” that could be heard everywhere.
Jing Haohao walked over to a nearby bus stop and took a ride. Sitting in the bus, watching the small-town night scenery flickering by, a layer of sadness welled up in her heart.
The short days had been like a beautiful dream to her, dissolving into smoke in a mere instant.
Could she not escape her fate, after all? Must she return to a life imprisoned by her circumstances?
Before the bus even reached its stop, she alighted, feeling light-headed. She walked along the road for a good while, forlorn and pitiful like a wandering ghost, before finally reaching the house she rented.
She had thought of living here for a year, and after the freshness of Liang Chen wore off, she’d pursue her own life in a big city.
But looking back now, how beautiful, how whimsical, the dreams she had then were!
