Jing Haohao walked down into the dining room where Liang Chen had yet to begin his breakfast. Seeing her walk in, a flicker of light danced in his eyes. He turned to Nanny Lin and said, “Prepare breakfast for the young lady.”
Nanny Lin quickly served breakfast and placed it in front of Jing Haohao.
Jing Haohao kept her head down, eating in silence.
Usually, Liang Chen would eat very quickly to save time, but with Jing Haohao eating at a leisurely pace, he found himself involuntarily slowing down too.
Despite the silence at the table, much like in the past, a subtle sense of delight stirred in Liang Chen’s heart.
Could it be… for once, Jing Haohao had woken without pretending to be asleep, waiting for him to leave. Could this suggest a softening in her attitude towards him?
Jing Haohao swallowed the last spoonful of porridge from her bowl and put down her spoon. She looked at Liang Chen who was wiping his mouth with a napkin, moistened her lips and said, “I have something to tell you.”
This was the first time Jing Haohao had spoken to him so calmly since he brought her home from the southern town. It caught Liang Chen off guard. He froze, napkin in hand, looked outside the window, confirmed that the sun was indeed rising from the east, blinked, turned to Jing Haohao, his face changing with palpable emotion. He managed a smile, his whole face looking radiant and irresistable. With soft tone, he said, “Go ahead, Haohao.”
After a brief pause, Jing Haohao finally spoke, “I’ve asked Xian’er to help me land a role in a drama, and I have an audition today.”
So that was it… Liang Chen nodded and without any hesitation said, “That’s good news. Just have the driver take you.”
Pausing a moment, aware of Jing Haohao’s longing for freedom, he added, “If you’re not used to it, feel free to drive yourself. Nanny Lin has keys to all of the cars in the garage. You can choose any car that you like.”
“We’ll see,” Jing Haohao replied indifferently. She added, “If my audition is successful today, I’ll start filming tomorrow.”
“Mm,” Liang Chen nodded before she could finish.
“The initial filming location is in Film and Television City, three hours’ drive away from Jiangshan City. Going back and forth would be inconvenient, so I want to live on set.”
Liang Chen didn’t respond for a moment. Jing Haohao thought to herself, ‘Just as I thought, he’s trying to keep me imprisoned here.’
Yet just as she settled on this thought, she heard Liang Chen speak to Nanny Lin beside him. “Nanny Lin, could you help Miss Jing prepare some necessary clothes and daily essentials?”
“Yes, Mr. Chen,” replied Nanny Lin.
Jing Haohao looked at Liang Chen in disbelief.
