?Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Indirect Criticism (1)_1 Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Indirect Criticism (1)_1 “As it should be, as it should be.”
Shen Liangnian said this and raised his glass. He thought it was just the same polite words as when a few people used to drink together, so he didn’t think much of it. He clinked his cup with Liang Chen’s, and drank it all.
Jing Haohao sat to the side and saw that Liang Chen was blaming her for provoking his anger onto Shen Liangnian.
People like Fang Lu all knew about Liang Chen, but they hadn’t actually had any interaction with him. Normally, if they just spotted him from afar, they would act as if they’d seen something astonishing. Now the Son of Heaven of Jiangshan City was sitting right beside them, which made them somewhat unable to react. After quite a while, they all started to speak, uttering extremely polite words with utmost caution.
Though Liang Chen seemed affable and casual, the sense of superiority and royal charisma inherent in him still subtly radiated, making the originally harmonious private room feel somewhat restrained due to his presence.
In the middle of their talks, Liang Chen called over the waiter and ordered two bottles of fine wine. As the waiter uncorked the bottles, Liang Chen, who was staring at Shen Liangnian who had his arm draped across Jing Haohao’s shoulders, said to everyone in the room: “Put this meal on my tab today. Mr. Shen, we rarely get to gather like this, so everyone should enjoy the food and drink.”
Liang Chen picked up the wine that the waiter has opened, poured a glass for Shen Liangnian and as he was pouring, he glanced at Jing Haohao, and asked Shen Liangnian, “Do you remember the coal mining boss, Zhang, from Shanxi last year?”
“I seem to have a vague memory, he was quite fat.” Shen Liangnian picked up his cup, and clinked it with Liang Chen’s.
“Well, I heard that his woman was playing two-timers, cheating behind his back, and even got tangled up with a high-ranking official in Shanxi.”
Liang Chen’s words were ambiguous. Everyone at the table seemed to be listening to a story except for Jing Haohao who visibly paled, understanding that Liang Chen was indirectly aiming at her despite discussing someone else’s story.
From the moment Liang Chen stepped into this private room, Qiao Wennuan realized that the words she had just said to him had taken effect.
Indeed, there was some unclear relationship between Jing Haohao and Liang Chen…
So, when she heard this from Liang Chen, she just smiled reservedly, and asked, “Mr. Liang, what happened to this woman later?”
As Liang Chen continued pouring wine for Shen Liangnian, without even looking at Qiao Wennuan, he asked: “What do you think should have happened?”
“Such a woman, who eats from the bowl while keeping an eye on the pot, is utterly despicable,” Qiao Wennuan chimed in softly. She was aware that Liang Chen was making insinuations, so she directly took a dig at Jing Haohao.
Having heard this, Liang Chen slightly tugged at his lips and smiled. He raised his glass and once again clinked it with Shen Liangnian’s. Then he looked into Jing Haohao’s eyes and said, “In the end, the coal mining boss from Shanxi was no match for the high-ranking official. Because of a woman, his coal mine was seized, and later, he fell into heavy debt. Now no one knows where he is hiding.”
Upon hearing this, Jing Haohao stared into Liang Chen’s eyes and pursed her lips. Her face turned even paler. She understood that Liang Chen was warning her that the fate of the coal mining boss might be Shen Liangnian’s fate too.
