Chapter 68 - 68 68 Beaten to the Punch Again
?Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Beaten to the Punch Again Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Beaten to the Punch Again The director and quite a few people on set couldn’t help but twitch the corners of their mouth when they saw Luo Ning take out talisman paper and other such things from her bag to pack.
“What’s the point of taking that stuff on a wilderness survival trip?” They expressed their skepticism.
Lu Xun looked at the items in Luo Ning’s hands and smiled with interest. She really was as distinctive as ever.
Tong Jia, a bit amused and exasperated, looked at Luo Ning and laughed as she asked, “Little Ningning, can you actually use that stuff?”
Luo Ning gave her a meaningful glance and said, “Of course, and I’ll be able to use it very soon.”
“How so?” Tong Jia asked out of curiosity.
Luo Ning blinked. “It’s a secret for now.”
“Alright then, I’ll wait and see.” Tong Jia didn’t press further.
Everyone finished packing their things. Many people’s things wouldn’t fit in the backpacks provided by the show, so quite a few of them brought their own additional backpacks to hold their belongings.
Luo Ning, on the other hand, packed only what could fit into the bag provided by the show.
Lu Xun made the same choice, and when Ji Xinghang saw Luo Ning doing this, he pared down his items as well.
Bo Xiangxiang and Su Qinglan still brought makeup, and many of the students had also brought makeup, obviously placing a lot of importance on their appearance on camera.
After grabbing their items, Lu Xun asked the director, “Will we be splitting into groups this time?”
The rest of the cast turned their attention to the director upon hearing this question.
This was a wilderness survival challenge, and many would prefer to be in a group with men for a greater sense of safety.
The director had originally wanted to stir things up, but seeing the deeply meaningful and somewhat warning look Lu Xun gave him, he had to abandon that idea.
Forcing a smile, he said, “We won’t force a matchup or draw lots this time, just form teams freely. However, each celebrity must take on students, with two celebrities and eight students per team.”
He could tell what Emperor Lu intended. The other probably wanted to team up with Luo Ning again. If it were anyone else, he’d have probably ignored it, but with this person, he could only go along with what he wanted, begrudgingly.
Otherwise, if he put Luo Ning on a team with Bo Xiangxiang or Ji Xinghang, it would have been great for both topics of conversation and ratings, but he didn’t dare to offend Emperor Lu.
Lu Xun nodded, “Understood!”
Then he turned to Luo Ning and asked, “Shall we form a team?”
Luo Ning nodded and smiled, “Sure!”
Ye Zixiao and four others exchanged glances and hurried over, “Teacher Luo, we’d like to be on your team.”
For some reason, they always felt safe around Luo Ning, even though she was a girl.
Fang Yu and two other students also eagerly said, “We want to continue being on Mr. Lu and Teacher Luo’s team.”
Lu Xun and Luo Ning nodded, “Sure!”
It was nice to stick with students they were already familiar with, having built a rapport with them, and there were no top-grade pains to deal with.
The other two students from Lu Xun’s previous team spoke up too late. After all, a team can only have ten people this time around, and their slots were already filled. They had no choice but to let the opportunity slip with regrets.
Tong Jia and the others, speechless, said, “God Lu, really? Teaming up with Little Ningning again so quickly, couldn’t you give us a chance?”
When they heard they could freely form teams, they were all privately considering their options for teammates.
Luo Ning’s name came to mind immediately, but since the challenge was about wilderness survival, requiring strength and stamina, teaming up with a girl seemed inconvenient, so they were still hesitating.
But before they could decide, Lu Xun had already claimed Luo Ning, leaving them at a loss for words.
A step behind again, Ji Xinghang: “…”
This time he couldn’t help himself and shot Lu Xun a dagger glare, which was utterly ignored by Emperor Lu.
Because Ji Xinghang and Luo Ning were both participating in the live broadcast, Mr. and Mrs. Ji were currently sitting and watching.
Seeing that their son had barely opened his mouth to speak before that handsome young Emperor Lu whisked Luo Ning away, Mr. Ji felt like facepalming, “This unlucky child.”
He even felt a bit sorry for his son who was always half a beat slower than the other actor—totally exasperating.
But Qi Yuelan didn’t sympathize with her son; instead, she said, “Our Ningning is so popular, he just doesn’t realize it. If he’s half a beat slow, he deserves it.”
Mr. Ji: “…” That’s a mother for you. He lit another candle for his son in his heart.
“This Lu Xun seems pretty good to me; he takes good care of Ningning.” Qi Yuelan, because Lu Xun had taken Luo Ning’s side immediately before and had even confronted Bo Xiangxiang, had a favorable impression of him.
Mr. Ji was startled to see his wife looking at Lu Xun with the eyes of a mother-in-law checking out her son-in-law, “Wife, this Lu Xun is strategic and cunning, that’s why he’s always one step ahead. Xinghang is more naive, that’s why he’s always a step behind.”
“Even if Lu Xun really is being strategic, so what? The fact that he always takes care of Ningning’s feelings shows his care and attentiveness, and in that, he’s better than Ji Xinghang.”
Qi Yuelan gave him a glance and continued, “As for your son, I think ‘single-celled’ might be more apt than ‘simple.’ You’ve passed on your traits very well.”
Mr. Ji: “…” He’s just sitting there taking bullets, can’t he just close his mouth, and wouldn’t that be okay?
On the deserted island.
Wei Yao and the others watched Lu Xun, speechless. “God Lu, do you really have to be so fast?”
Lu Xun curled his lip, “Opportunities slip by when you hesitate; if I’m not fast, you guys will beat me to it, and I’m not foolish.”
Wei Yao and the others: “…” They felt like Emperor Lu was implying they were fools.
“Now that our team is set, it’s up to you guys,” said Lu Xun.
Wei Yao and Chai Jing had known each other before and always got along well. This time, they exchanged a knowing look, “Let’s keep our middle-aged duo going.”
“…” Tong Jia’s mouth twitched. Don’t think he didn’t know these two didn’t want to end up with Bo Xiangxiang and Su Qinglan.
He didn’t want to be with them either, so he quickly said to Ji Xinghang, “How about we team up?”
Just as Ji Xinghang was about to speak, the director cut in, “Can you really bear to just leave those two girls unchecked?”
Without hesitation, Ji Xinghang replied in a very straightforward manner, “Heartless.”
Tong Jia actually wanted to say the same, but it didn’t seem right even though Ji Xinghang was so direct.
He marveled internally, Ji Xinghang truly was the most capricious and unrestrained top star in the entertainment circle.
Director: “…” Can this game still be played happily?
[Haha, Ji Xinghang’s straight-man answer is hilarious.]
[The director is stupefied, looking utterly disheartened.]
[Star baby is still so cute.]
[When Star baby said ‘Heartless,’ I thought it was so dorky and cute.]
[Ji Xinghang clearly doesn’t want to team up with Bo Xiangxiang, right? Just like Luo Ning, who he grew up with, they both are straightforward and clear about their likes and dislikes.]
[Ji Xinghang is too straightforward, those two girls didn’t do anything to him.]
[Yeah, it’s seriously lacking in chivalry.]
[To those above, stop blabbering nonsense, we all agreed to be real, why should Star baby force himself?]
[Exactly, if Star baby doesn’t want to, then he doesn’t.]
When Ji Xinghang responded like that, Su Qinglan didn’t mind, as she wasn’t that familiar with Ji Xinghang anyways, but Bo Xiangxiang felt quite embarrassed.
She had just been thinking of inviting Ji Xinghang to be on her team.
The director scanned the four of them and said with a smile, “It’s inconvenient for the two girls to team up on their own, so Teacher Ji and Teacher Tong must choose one to form a team with.”
