Jiang Biyun and Chen Xiting came from the same province, so they had got to know each other on the train and were closer to each other than to He Zhilan.

Given that it was the first day of the semester, the dining hall was not crowded.

Normally, freshmen would register earlier than the sophomores and juniors.
