Chapter 147 - 147 142 Misunderstood
?Chapter 147: Chapter 142: Misunderstood? Chapter 147: Chapter 142: Misunderstood? “You haven’t eaten all day, go get something to eat now! Don’t starve yourself.” Wei Sisan, who had been nervous all day, seeing his daughter unscathed, sighed with relief after worrying the entire day.
Wei Yiling waited for a while longer, making sure the guy wouldn’t come back before she finally left.
After staying up all night, Ling’er spent the whole next day mulling over things. She couldn’t believe that the guy was just joking with her? He was obviously a bad guy, talking to himself all the time. He can’t possibly be a good person.
Her father was right though. She couldn’t help but wonder who the letter’s sender was – Wanlan had brought her breakfast and while she was eating, Ling’er asked, “Wanlan, do you also think I’m overthinking this?”
“Overthinking what?” asked Wanlan.
“Thinking that the guy is a bad person.”
“Hmm. For somebody who talks to themselves, he has to have some kind of psychological issue, definitely not a good guy.” Wanlan set down the breakfast and continued, “He held you captive for a whole day, how can he possibly be a good person? If he was, why would he do such a thing?”
“But who sent the letter?” she questioned, looking at the handwriting on the letter, “No, I need to figure this out and understand what’s going on.”
“Figure it out? That man could have fled from Wasteland City by now.” Wanlan continued, “Yesterday, we used everyone in our New City Sect to help in searching. With such a large movement, there is no way he could still be here.”
“I have a way to find out whether it was that guy’s instructions to send the letter.”
“And how do you want to find that out, find the little beggar? It’s not easy to find one beggar among many.”
“I have my ways, it just depends on whether you can think them through.” Ling’er quickly wolfed down her food.
“Slow down, you weren’t even scared to death yesterday.”
“I can’t believe that he is a normal person.”
“A person who talks to themselves. Definitely a split personality.”
Having eaten breakfast, Yiling hurriedly left.
Wanlan, who had been worried about yesterday’s fright, still hadn’t gotten over it today and asked, “Where are you going?”
Yiling led Wanlan out of the Sky Lake Manor, crossing over to the Liuye Manor opposite.
“You’re going in there? If that guy is still inside, and his martial arts skills as high as you said, both of us could be caught. I’ll call some people over.”
Before Wanlan could call anyone, Yiling had already pushed the door open. Inside was peaceful, just as they had left it yesterday. It seemed their guy indeed hadn’t returned. Wanlan walked in, following Yiling directly into the room.
“What are you looking for? Are you wanting to relive yesterday’s horror?”
Yiling located a cupboard. She didn’t believe there weren’t any notes inside.
As expected, she found some writings inside, took them out, and from her pocket drew out the paper slips she received last night.
She compared the two, “Look at this, they seem to have been written by the same hand.”
“Did that guy actually write a letter to inform us?”
Yiling too was stunned, taking a long time to recover.
“What’s the matter, Ling’er?”
Yiling sat down on a stone at the doorstep, deep in thought. There were things she didn’t understand. Was he really just joking with her? But he does speak to himself!
Wanlan looked at a puzzled Ling’er.
“Could it be that he was actually just messing with me and didn’t want to harm me?”
“Ai, girl, stop thinking about it.” Wanlan said.
“But he was really talking to himself!”
Wanlan just laughed, “People who keep to their own company like that, are better off avoided. It’s a sure sign of a split personality.”
“I only saw him alone in the room, he was talking to himself. I absolutely didn’t see a third person.”
“I believe what you say is true. It’s better to keep a distance from such people, let’s go home.”
“How could he possibly be a good person?” Ling’er was reminded of an incident four years ago. Only a bad guy would have done what happened that time. It couldn’t have been a joke, how could anyone take kissing someone as a joke.
…
Ye Chen dared not return, saying, “Now I really can’t go back.” They rested at the inn for a night. With no citywide searches taking place last night, it was somewhat surprising.
He found a secluded corner on the street and got some food. He watched the busy streets, paying attention to whether anyone was carrying his portrait, on the lookout for him. Fortunately nobody was, but he was already considering leaving Wasteland City.
“Okay, can’t turn back now, where to now?” Ye Chen asked.
Red Demonic Spirit remained silent.
“We go to Tianle City, we can make other decisions once we’ve given it some thought,” Ye Chen continued, “We’ll go wherever it’s bustling. If we have time, we can also go to Ghost City. I’ve heard that in Ghost City, so long as you have money, there will be no shortage of beautiful women.”
The Red Demonic Spirit didn’t say anything again.
Ye Chen continued eating, asking, “Still thinking about the girl from last night’s flower house?”
The Red Demonic Spirit chuckled and replied, “Seems like you’re the one fixated on that girl.”
“Ha, I’ll regret not having gone to the bridal chamber last night,” Ye Chen jestfully remarked.
“I bet we scared the poor girl.”
“Alright, I need to get ready, too. We are to leave the city by noon. No more antics here. I really want to avoid that girl; otherwise things will become so entwined.”
“Being entwined isn’t a bad thing.”
Suddenly there was disruption in the Ghost City. The news quickly reached Sky Lake Manor.
Wei Sisan summoned Jiang Zhuge and said, “Looks like Zhi Lang Taoist Priest and Ming Qi can’t handle this matter. You’ll have to go.”
Jiang Zhuge reacted, “It might really be someone stirring up trouble.”
He immediately thought of Gua Zhengnie and Zun Yu. Kong Sha said, “At this moment, the most likely troublemakers are Gua Zhengnie and Zun Yu. Aside from these two, I can’t think of anyone else with a reason to make a fuss.”
Wei Sisan said, “Regardless of whether it is them, we need to suppress this issue first. When you arrive at Ghost City, try to control the situation as much as possible. Do not let it escalate.” He did not want any trouble at this moment. It wasn’t good for both sides to be in a mess. He was still busy recruiting new disciples.
“Don’t worry, I’ll set off right away,” Jiang Zhuge responded.
Wei Sisan asked again, “Right, when will Can Mo’s people arrive?”
“They should be here any day now.”
Wei Sisan nodded. He added, “Take care.”
“Rest assured.”
Wei Sisan said, “First, stabilize the situation. If anything happens, let me know at once. We need to keep in touch.”
Kong Sha laughed and comforted, “Sect Leader, don’t worry. If Jiang Zhuge and Zhi Lang Taoist Priest join forces, they can certainly handle matters.”
Jiang Zhuge set off around noon.
Wei Sisan was contemplating a situation when chaos suddenly broke out in all corners of the Wastelands. It happened so fast and was obviously aimed at their New City Sect. But to the experienced Wei Sisan, he knew that remaining calm was the most crucial thing at this moment. Becoming anxious would not solve the problem. He was interested to see how much mayhem the duo were capable of stirring up. There was nowhere to hide now.
Kong Sha speculated, “They must have teamed up to see what we are made of.”
“Bring it on; they are welcome to try if they like. I’d like to see how much of a scene my two apprentices are capable of causing.”
Kong Sha remained silently thoughtful.
Wei Sisan instructed, “The most important place now is Wasteland City. Keep a close eye on it. We can’t let anything happen there.”
“Don’t worry; I’ve already arranged for people. They have just arrived in Wasteland City and won’t dare stir the pot. I’ve set up informants everywhere. If they dare to make trouble here and give me the opportunity, I won’t let them off.”
“First, keep everything steady, step by step. Let’s see exactly what happened in Ghost City.” As long as one side can be stabilized, the situation can be gradually resolved. Wei Sisan said, “Now we can’t let things get messier. If it becomes chaotic, it will be difficult to handle.”
In these years since that incident four years ago, there hadn’t been any movement from the No. One Thieves. However, they knew about Wei Sisan’s intentions of dealing with them, but they managed to easily avoid Wei Sisan with Gua Zhengnie’s help during these years.
They managed to get through it, but a few days ago, Gua Zhengnie approached them again. They intended to deal with Wei Sisan. In these years, Yang Jing hadn’t had his fair share of shocks. Watching Wei Sisan’s men grow stronger each day and his life getting tougher, he felt increasingly oppressed after dealing with those petty bandits. Now that they were targeting him, he felt bombarded. He felt it was going too far.
Wei Sisan even founded the New City Sect.
Gua Zhengnie plans to join forces with Yang Jing of the No. One Thieves to take on Wei Sisan.
Upon learning that Can Mo’s people had just joined the New City Sect, Gua Zhengnie decided to strike against Can Mo’s people. If they could give Can Mo’s folks a good beating, nobody would dare join the New City.
He approached Yang Jing, shared his idea, and asked him to help deal with Can Mo. Yang Jing worried this would attract Wei Sisan’s people. However, Gua Zhengnie had assured Yang Jing that he would arrange for support.
After some thought, if the New City Sect were to become the ruler of the Wastelands, then the No. One Thieves would have to hide away in the future. They could do nothing and would definitely be watched closely by the New City Sect. This wasn’t what he wanted. He couldn’t stand having this eye watching him forever. It would be worse than death. It would be more advantageous for him if the New City Sect remained small and weak.
The third thief of the No. One Thieves, You Dao, was afraid of being used by others. He said, “Boss, we’d be heading into the frontline. Wouldn’t that be playing into someone else’s hands?”
However, Yang Jing said, “Gua Zhengnie has assured me that we will join forces when the time comes.” In these years, the reason they were able to survive under Wei Sisan’s scrutiny was due to Gua Zhengnie’s help. This time, Gua Zhengnie had given him a lot of silver taels.
Although Gua Zhengnie used them, he knew that without the No. One Thieves, he couldn’t deal with Wei Sisan alone. Hence, the No. One Thieves became Gua Zhengnie’s helpers.
The third thief, You Dao, asked again, “Are their words trustworthy?”
The second thief, Ci Ye, said, “They should be believable. After all, Gua Zhengnie really did help us in these years.”
You Dao counter-argued,”But we only attracted Wei Sisan’s attention because we helped them capture that girl. That’s why Wei Sisan has been trying relentlessly to capture us.”
“But Gua Zhengnie also isn’t doing well. He has reason to team up with us.”
