Chapter 154 - 154 149 Strike When the Time is Right

?Chapter 154: Chapter 149: Strike When the Time is Right Chapter 154: Chapter 149: Strike When the Time is Right Without realizing it, they had been running for over two hours. Suddenly, they slowed down in a valley.

Several similarly dressed men in black appeared ahead, seemingly waiting for them.

They gathered together, seemingly to look at a map.

One of them said, “This is Wei Sisan’s location. Gua Zhengnie and his men are here. We have to get here. At the appointed time, we will launch a fireworks signal. The only target is to kill Wei Sisan, just as Gua Zhengnie said. Nothing else matters.”

Jue Ming nodded and said, “Got it.”

Ye Chen had no idea where they were heading. The only option was to follow closely to figure out their destination.

He also had no idea where Wei Sisan currently was.

“I reckon Gua Zhengnie is set on murder,” said Ye Chen.

“You are not going to save your future father-in-law out of love for that girl, are you?” The Red Demonic Spirit asked curiously.

“What a peculiar imagination, I and that girl only draw swords upon meeting. How could I fall for her?”

“But why are you so desperate to save Wei Sisan?”

“Is it desperation? If Wei Sisan is killed, there will be no leader in the Wastelands. Can you imagine the ensuing chaos? Wei Sisan cannot die.”

“Although you have some martial arts skills, you are only one person. The enemies must have a detailed plan and more personnel than what we’ve seen. You can’t change anything! We should just go back and sleep.”

“Right, you’re correct. Maybe I really can’t do anything, but I might be able to do something. I can’t just give up without putting in an effort. Only after trying will we know whether it was worth it, instead of declaring failure without effort.” Ye Chen had made up his mind.

The Red Demonic Spirit let out a cold laugh.

“Stop daydreaming! If you carry on like this, I will have to seriously consider whether to seal you up. You’re always leching like a notorious lothario, what’s the difference?”

“You want to seal me up?”

“Of course, if I don’t seal you up, you’ll go off and do bad things sooner or later. Who knows how many innocent women will fall prey to you. I need to consider them.” Ye Chen crouched down and used a rock for camouflage.

“You make it sound like you’re a saint.”

“Ha, I wouldn’t dare say I’m a saint, at least I don’t go around plotting to undress women like you.”

“You don’t want to?”

“I’m not as dirty-minded as you are. Hurry up, we’ve still got lots to do.” He estimated they were not far away.

They continued their trek in the darkness for another couple of hours.

Suddenly, the men in front stopped, and Ye Chen quickly followed suit. They were now halfway up a mountain.

Ye Chen looked down at the foot of the mountain. It seemed like a campsite, with light emerging from a fire. That must be Wei Sisan’s camp. Those people were still in the dark. Ye Chen began to worry.

Someone on the opposite mountain began waving a torch, presumably to signal to the people here.

The people here also started waving their torches in response.

As he suspected, they weren’t the only ones involved here. The valley was an excellent spot for an ambush, and Ye Chen guessed that the men in black were planning to surround their enemies.

Gui Lang quickly informed Gua Zhengnie, “Hmm, they’re here, on the opposing hillside.”

“Signal them. We will attack in an hour. Tell them to prepare immediately.”

Gui Lang nodded and quickly went to make arrangements. Ye Chen grew anxious. The men in black were moving downhill, apparently about to initiate the attack.

He looked around in the dark. Although he couldn’t see much, he wanted to get a good look at the terrain in case they needed to escape.

What was he to do? He had to find a way to alert the people in the camp. Whether they could survive was another matter, but for now, he had to let them know the men in black were coming.

“We have to tell the people below. They’re about to be surrounded,” murmured Ye Chen.

“Are you planning to run down there? Be careful not to get caught yourself.”

“So what should we do?”

“Go back to sleep.”

Ye Chen glanced to the side and found a pile of firewood.

He had to alert the men below before the men in black arrived or they might be slaughtered. He lit the pile of firewood, creating a whirlwind that sucked up the burning wood, tossing it into the air. He then struck it with his palm, causing it to explode with a thunderous bang, resembling a burning meteor, accompanied by a Dragon Roar. The explosion scared those resting at the foot of the mountain awake, and they all looked at each other in confusion.

They quickly became alert.

Zheng Yibai ran out, asking, “What’s going on?”

Everyone turned to look at him.

Wei Sisan also ran from his tent. Immediately after, another loud bang lit up the entire sky. For a moment, it seemed as if night had turned into day. They could see two groups of people charging at them from both directions.

Zheng Yibai declared, “Not good, we are surrounded.”

Gua Zhengnie didn’t know what was going on. His planned attack had unintentionally alarmed Wei Sisan at the foot of the mountain. He couldn’t wait any longer, he immediately signaled to start the fight.

Following the men in black, assailants started surging from both sides, charging towards the valley.

“Sect Leader, we’re surrounded. I have no idea who they are,” concluded Zheng Yibai.

It’s clear that their intentions were not friendly.

Zheng Yibai speculated, “Could these men be from the No. One Thieves?”

“Impossible. The No. One Thieves don’t have that many members.”

Zheng Yibai yelled, “Protect the Sect Leader!” He drew his sword and prepared to charge with a few of his comrades.

However, Winged Dragons from both sides sprang out fiercely and savagely, bearing down on them.

Wei Sisan hastily ordered his men to resist the onslaught with their Winged Dragons and mutant beasts.

From the other side, someone yelled that anyone who killed Wei Sisan would be awarded a thousand gold pieces.

Wei Sisan pondered the true motives of this assault.

Listening to the clamor of the battle, seeing the men in black encroaching from all directions, he sent out scouts who reported back, “There must be at least six to seven hundred men out there.”

Zheng Yibai hurried back, “Sect Leader, things don’t look good. I suspect our attack on Can Mo was a smokescreen. The real target is you.” He thought about the danger they were facing.

Despite the threatening situation, Wei Sisan kept a cool head. He was experienced and not easily frightened.

But Zheng Yibai began to worry. There were too many enemies and they only had a little over three hundred people. It was clear that they were being surrounded.

“Who are these men?” Zheng Yibai asked a disciple next to him.

The disciple shook his head, “I can’t tell. They are covered in black from head to toe.”

“I bet it’s Gua Zhengnie. He figures if he kills our Sect Leader, he can take out New City Sect. They came prepared. Our Sect Leader in danger works in his favor.”

Faced with the threat of the men in black enveloping them, New City Sect’s disciples displayed signs of panic. Wei Sisan, however, remained composed. He knew panicking wouldn’t solve anything. During times like these, remaining calm was imperative. He said, “Send a message by carrier pigeon to Xiao Bai. Tell them we’re in trouble and need immediate assistance.”

Zheng Yibai remembered, “Yes, we should send Xiao Bai a message and explain our situation. Their location is closest to us.”

Wei Sisan nodded and led his disciples to join the fight.

The Dragon Roar continually disrupted the quiet night. The squawks of various beast types could be heard as winged mutant beasts swooped down from the firework-lit sky, their roars resounding.

Seeing a masked man leading a group towards them, wielding formidable martial arts, proved to be a challenge for their disciples.

Wei Sisan rushed forward without hesitation.

With a few concentrated strikes, he steadied their ranks. The masked man stopped in his tracks, his gaze rested on Wei Sisan, the very man Gua Zhengnie was determined to kill.

Wei Sisan asked, “Who are you?”

“Heh, that’s funny. You’re the one who pushed us to this point of desperation and you want to know who we are?” retorted the masked man who was called Jue Ming.

“So you’re just vermin.”

“Did you really think you owned the Wastelands? Have you ever considered that we are part of this place too?”

“You vermin, causing nothing but trouble in the Wastelands. I will annihilate all of you and bring peace back to the Wastelands.”

“Escape from here and then we’ll talk.”

Wei Sisan hadn’t expected them to be this audacious. However, it was becoming apparent that they were targeting him and the New City Sect.

Jue Ming shouted, “Here’s Wei Sisan, the man who’s caused us unbearable pains and driven us into a corner. The man you all want dead is right here, get him!”

“Whoosh… whoosh…” A couple of Fire Dragons sprang forth, charging towards Wei Sisan.

Ye Chen looked down from above and said, “They’re going to be surrounded soon.”

“I can see that, I don’t need your explanation.”

“You’re still worried about my sister.”

The Red Demonic Spirit didn’t want to respond to him, seeming slightly upset.

Ye Chen said, “We have to think of a way to rescue them quickly or they’re going to be surrounded.”

“I’m not as powerful as you think. You really think I can take on hundreds single-handedly?”

“We still have to find a way to save them.”

“You have no personal bond with them. Why jump into this mess?”

“Because we’re from the Wastelands too. Those men in black are evildoers. The righteous ones are getting surrounded. We should jump in when we must.”

“Are you trying to impress that girl? She already has someone. She won’t fall for a ruffian like you.”

“Haha, I’m not thinking that far.”

“Let’s not get involved. We two alone can’t do much. Let’s go back to the inn.”
