Chapter 164 - 164 159 Fire Burns Feng Niang Inn
?Chapter 164: Chapter 159: Fire Burns Feng Niang Inn Chapter 164: Chapter 159: Fire Burns Feng Niang Inn Jue Ming also rushed in. The disciples of the New City Sect, as if having found an opportunity for revenge, began to fight more fiercely. Perhaps due to a period of rest and replenishing their stamina, their martial abilities were even stronger than the previous night.
The black-clothed people appeared to be tired, though they had a larger number, they could only encircle the outside and could not come in. Those creatures being constantly released by Ye Chen ran into the chaos like they had seen a ghost. Within a short time, they fled out, trampling a considerable number of them.
Though Jue Ming stormed in fiercely, he was still no match for Ye Chen in solo combat. Ye Chen could take advantage of this. He only needed to deal with the formidable ones and leave the minor minions to the disciples of the New City Sect.
At this time, the black-clothed people became even more ruthless. It seemed that they wanted to seize the Feng Niang Inn in one move.
However, Feng Niang knew they couldn’t be allowed to succeed. If they seized the inn, everyone present would die. She was aware this was a matter of urgency, and they held the advantageous position. Moreover, there were many hidden traps within the inn which they could use to their advantage.
Unexpectedly, there were numerous weapons hidden within Feng Niang’s inn. Originally, these weapons were intended for fighting off robbers, but it turned out they could be used today. Arrows kept being launched. They needed to block the entrance and also pay attention to the windows. Some black-clothed people had already climbed in through the windows. But they were quickly driven down by the disciples of the New City Sect.
Feng Niang shouted, “Everyone, hold on, we can’t let them in!”
Facing a crowd that surged in like a flood, they were about to be overwhelmed. Ye Chen quickly sent Jue Ming flying out with a palm strike. Once he landed in the hall, he released several waves of powerful energy, transforming into Green Dragons, and conjured a tornado, directly blasting the group of black-clothed people blocking the door out. They all rolled outside.
Gui Lang managed to escape with his eyes red, shouting, “Damn, that damned woman, she’s helping the people of New City!”
“Did you see Wei Sisan?” asked Gua Zhengnie.
Jue Ming replied, “He might have been knocked unconscious, he must be seriously injured.”
Gui Lang said, “That damned kid, his martial arts are just too fierce, like he’s on steroids, even more formidable than yesterday. They have held their positions, no matter how many people we have, we can’t get in. Boss, I think we should try another method.”
Gua Zhengnie muttered, “Another method?”
“Yes, I am confident that Wei Sisan is definitely inside,” Gui Lang continued, “There’s no point for us to try and take over the inn. We don’t know how many disciples will have to die before we can take over this trap-filled inn. Let’s just set a fire and burn them all.”
Gua Zhengnie, “Burn them all!”
“Yes, the fastest solution. As long as we encircle this place and prevent them from coming out, they will all have to burn to death inside. Wei Sisan will also have to die inside.”
Jue Ming agreed, “I agree, let’s just burn it. Dry wood on a raging fire, it won’t take long. We’ll surround them here and not a single one of them will be able to escape. We can kill them all quickly.”
Gua Zhengnie said, “Good, burn, burn it all.”
Ye Chen drove out the last group of black-clothed people from the inn. They didn’t continue attacking, but had surrounded the inn completely.
Arrows could be shot in at any time.
Ye Chen saw the lighting of torches, “It seems that they indeed want to burn us to death. Let’s escape quickly, hide in the secret tunnel.”
“Heh, heh, you can’t hide in the secret tunnel so soon. You have to struggle a bit, otherwise it won’t seem realistic,” Feng Niang said.
“Struggle? Charge out?”
“Of course, if we don’t charge out, it won’t seem real, who would believe so many people inside the inn would burn to death without a struggle.”
Listening, Ye Chen nods his head, feeling there is some truth to Feng Niang’s words, “Alright, let’s put up a good fight.”
Gua Zhengnie yelled, “Stay on guard, they may try to break out.”
Dozens of torches kept being thrown onto the roof. The house, which was built of wood, caught fire immediately.
Ye Chen, leading a large group of black-clothed people, dashed out and was immediately targeted by Gua Zhengnie. In collaboration with Jue Ming and Gui Lang, they launched a fierce attack.
Ye Chen staged a desperate counterattack, aiming to deceive those outside, making them believe they all would burn to death inside the inn.
Feng Niang ordered people to bring over corpses, including those of the black-clothed people, to create the scene of a collective fire death. They also had to show that Wei Sisan was among them. She found a corpse similar to Wei Sisan, dressed it in Wei Sisan’s clothing, attached Wei Sisan’s badge and sword to it, and prepared for a faked death. After half a day of fighting, there were plenty of corpses inside, which they could use just right.
The fire began burning on the roof.
Ye Chen sent out Green Dragon, but it was blocked by Gua Zhengnie, Jue Ming, and Gui Lang.
It was hard to break through such strong energy in an instant.
At that moment, a group of giant creatures leapt out and pressed forward, with flashes of swords and blades flying all over. The more chaotic it was, the weaker they seemed.
Gua Zhengnie ordered his men to release flying darts, while he, Jue Ming, and Gui Lang fought even harder.
Ye Chen’s offence quickly died down, and with one last struggle, he began to feel increasingly troubled. The Winged Dragons spat fireballs, attempting to drive them back into the inn.
Ye Chen took a look and decided it was time to put an end to the performance. If not, he might actually get injured.
Some disciples had been injured in the onslaught, and they quickly retreated back into the inn.
Gua Zhengnie sent out a large group of Winged Dragons. The dragons kept spewing fireballs, which made the already ignited house burn even more fiercely. He screamed, “Shoot arrows at them, blockade them. Don’t let a single one of them to come out.”
Painful screams could be heard from inside.
Feng Niang had already opened the secret tunnel. The people in the inn poured in and sealed the entrance to prevent the heavy smoke from entering.
The secret tunnel led to a more distant place. In these Wastelands, it was common to have secret tunnels, especially in these remote barren mountains. In case of encounters with robbers, they might come in handy.
Ye Chen was the last to crawl into the secret tunnel. He asked, “They won’t find out, right?”
“They won’t. I’ve taken care of everything. As long as they don’t burst in now, it won’t happen,” Feng Niang spoke.
Ye Chen nodded at her words and said, “Unless they have a death wish, they would dare to storm in now.”
“Which is why there’s no need to worry.”
“Where will we go?”
“Of course, to the exit.”
They continued along the secret passage, moving further and further away, for over half of two hours.
Ye Chen commented, “Thankfully we have such a secret passage, otherwise we would have all died inside.”
Feng Niang explained, “In the wilderness, it’s common to encounter robbers. Any standalone inns that have been around for a while will have these types of secret passages.”
“Could the men in black outside possibly know that we escaped through the secret passage?”
Summoning her people, Feng Niang had a section of the passageway sealed up completely, even the thick smoke couldn’t infiltrate. She continued, “Even if they did somehow discover that we went into the passageway, with this entrance blocked, they have no clue about where we might have gone. This was always a diverging path.”
Ye Chen chimed in, “Seems like everything is secure. However, it’s a pity that I destroyed your Feng Niang Inn.”
“Just build me a new one in the future, after we return.”
“For sure, I’ll find Wei Sisan to compensate you for multiple inns.”
The space continued to expand, revealing a wide opening that could accommodate several dozen people. They had been walking inside the passage close to two hours.
Feng Niang warned, “Let’s stop here. We’re at the end of the passage. We shouldn’t go out yet. Though those people think we were burned to death in the inn, there are probably still some winged dragons flying chaotically outside. If they spot us, we’ll have no idea where to go.”
They had also brought out quite a bit of food.
Feng Niang confirmed, “The food we’ve prepared can last us for three days.”
Ye Chen found a spot to lay down for sleep.
The flames roared, devouring the inn for over three hours, turning it to ashes once the flames were extinguished.
Gui Lang removed the black cloth masking his face and declared, “We should have torched them all along, that would have saved us much trouble.” He added, “Damn that brat who made us struggle for two whole days and nights. Serves him right to be burned alive.”
Jue Ming wondered, “There couldn’t be a secret passage, could there?”
“How could there be? If there were, they would have already escaped through it. Why else would they try to break out?” replied Gui Lang.
Now, Gua Zhengnie was waiting for the fire to die before going in to take a look.
“I don’t think anything could have survived that fire.” Gui Lang commented.
It wasn’t until noon that the fire finally died out. Gua Zhengnie ordered his men to investigate through the ashes.
From the charred corpse of a body found on a bed, they recovered a token and a sword.
The disciple hurriedly presented the token and the sword to Gua Zhengnie.
Upon seeing them, Gui Lang exclaimed, “This is Wei Sisan’s token and his sword.”
“Where were they found?”
“They were found on a corpse lying on a bed, but there isn’t much left of the corpse.” said the disciple.
“Wei Sisan must have fainted from my heavy blow, that’s why we didn’t see him when we stormed in, and he ended up being burned alive on the bed.”
“Can we determine how many corpses are inside?”
“The fire was too fierce, many corpses can’t be identified. Some are reduced to just a pile of ashes.”
“We don’t need to overthink this. The corpse must be Wei Sisan’s. Who else’s corpse could be found with his token?”
“Was there anything like a secret passage?” asked Gua Zhengnie to the disciple.
“No, we’ve already searched all around and found nothing.”
The exit Feng Niang had arranged was not something that common folks could discover easily.
Gui Lang affirmed, “They must all be dead.”
Gua Zhengnie took another round through the remnants of the inn before he was utterly reassured.
The news about the Feng Niang Inn burning down, killing Wei Sisan, quickly spread throughout Wasteland City. Everyone was convinced that Wei Sisan had died in this fire.
As soon as this news spread, the entire Wastelands were shocked.
Wei Sisan, who had fought for the Wastelands for so many years, had unexpectedly died like this. Many people simply couldn’t believe it.
