Chapter 200 - 200 194 Tracing
?Chapter 200: Chapter 194: Tracing Chapter 200: Chapter 194: Tracing Ci Ye turned his head and said to Er Gui, “The group of people we dealt with last night only consisted of seventy or eighty people, meaning they still have around three hundred more.”
“But our boss, after all his exertions throughout the day, I fear he won’t be able to catch up,” Er Gui said.
Ci Ye was well aware of this, he muttered, “They think they can shake us off so easily. They’re mistaken.”
“If Tong Hegan could make it here, we’ll have a good chance of outflanking them.”
Ci Ye nodded, “Yes, a couple of days ago, they said they would come to Ghost City. I think they will be here as soon as possible. The New City Sect has already defeated Jue Ming. Whether Jue Ming can escape now is uncertain. The New City Sect has already taken action against us, despite their current target being only our No. One Thieves.
But once the No. One Thieves are exterminated, they will inevitably deal with Tong Hegan and his lot. Tong Hegan surely doesn’t want to get wiped out. The last time, he joined forces with us to deal with Wei Sisan, he was also scared, so he will surely join forces with us to deal with the New City Sect,” he added.
Er Gui nodded and said, “As long as they come to help, the disciples of the New City Sect won’t be a match for us.”
Ci Ye said, “I’d like to ask for your help, please make an extra effort. I don’t know if the New City Sect has sent out people yet, but my worry is that the closer we get to Tianle City, the lesser our chances.”
Er Gui nodded and said, “Don’t worry, just tell us what needs to be done.”
Ye Chen’s message by carrier pigeon was quickly received by Can Mo and his people. Ye Chen shared his doubts with Can Mo, and Can Mo understood Ye Chen’s concerns.
One of the disciples said, “It’s impossible that they discovered us last night. We didn’t see anyone following us last night. That much we can confirm.”
Can Mo said, “It’s likely that they only discovered us this morning.”
“In any case, we were very careful last night. It’s impossible for them to have discovered us so soon.”
Can Mo agreed.
“But do they know we’ve decended the mountain from the left side? Don’t they think that once they pass, we might continue going in the direction of the mountain ridge?”
Can Mo said, “That’s a possibility, but we can’t rely on chance, we have to assume the worst and make haste.”
The disciple lowered his head.
“Alright, it seems you all have rested enough, we need to leave this place as soon as possible.” It was already afternoon.
Ling’er ran over and asked, “What happened?”
“They likely discovered us,” Can Mo replied.
“So soon? How can you be so sure?”
“The people chasing after Ye Chen and his party are lacking Ci Ye. There are only slightly more than four hundred people, not over seven hundred.”
Ling’er asked, “So, do they know we’ve come down the mountain?”
“We don’t know yet, but I’ll find out as soon as I can whether they really know we’ve descended the mountain. There should be news soon.”
Ling’er, concerned, asked, “Are Ye Chen and the others alright?”
“They evaded Da Gui and his men and have looped behind them. Da Gui’s men are resting at the foot of the mountain. They won’t be able to catch up anytime soon given they didn’t rest last night.”
Ling’er asked, “What about Ye Chen and his party?”
“They haven’t mentioned their plans, but most likely they’ll try to find us. However, we can’t wait for them here. We need to leave this place as soon as possible. Getting back to Tianle City is of utmost importance.”
“But, the path is difficult.”
“Yes, I didn’t anticipate that Centipede Mountain would be this challenging.”
One disciple said, “I heard that the day before yesterday, Da Gui and his men encountered a large group of monsters which attacked them, and that’s why they didn’t join Ci Ye in attacking us.”
“That happened?” Ling’er asked, surprised.
Can Mo said, “Looks like it’s true that there are monsters on this mountain. Everyone, please stay alert and make sure no monsters are following us unnoticed.”
Can Mo didn’t have a better solution. One disciple said, “If Da Gui and his men are at the foot of the mountain, then the group of people with Ci Ye are roughly our size. Now that we are not bothered by the people they’ve caught, we don’t fear them.”
However, Can Mo said, “I don’t want to engage in a fight with them. The most important thing now is to return Yang Jing to Tianle City as soon as possible. The longer we stay on Centipede Mountain, the greater the danger. You all must understand that we are currently near Ghost City which is only a day or two away from us. If more people come out to help them at that time, we’ll be in serious danger. Don’t forget that the trouble that befell our Sect Leader last time was stirred up by Tong Hegan in Ghost City.”
The people lowered their heads, none daring to say a word.
Can Mo knew that leaving this place was most important now. Indeed, Ghost City was not their territory.
Ye Chen, finally managing to reach the top of the mountain, was so exhausted that he could fall asleep sitting down. The flies and mosquitoes there were not friendly at all. Despite growing up in the countryside and being accustomed to hardship, the bites were so unbearable that he wanted to cry for his mother.
“If I knew it would be this difficult, I wouldn’t have dared to enter Centipede Mountain.”
A disciple brought over a bottle of medicine to Ye Chen, saying, “This season isn’t the best, especially after several days of overcast rainy weather. Combine this with our environment and you might want to apply this. It should help.”
“You’re too kind.” Ye Chen took it before asking, “Has Da Gui’s group hiked up the mountain yet?”
Someone answered, “They haven’t. They’re likely as disinterested in pursuing us as we are of them; they’ve decided to rest at the foot of the mountain.”
This welcome news suggested that Centipede Mountain could deliver them from their pursuers after all. Ye Chen breathed a sigh of relief at the thought of their foes ceasing their chase.
“We’ve accomplished what we intended to. Da Gui may be greedy for money, but he isn’t reckless enough to lose his life over it. His men didn’t sleep a wink last night. They’re no superhumans,” a disciple commented.
“I’m not that delicate either. I can’t believe this place is getting to me.” Ye Chen grimaced.
A disciple remarked, “As long as Da Gui’s men don’t come up here, we should be in the clear.”
Ye Chen gave a slight nod.
“They probably number around eight hundred. Da Gui has left more than four hundred behind, so at most, only around three hundred remain in Ci Ye’s hands. Can Mo, however, has around three hundred of our men. The odds look promising.”
The situation was indeed favorable, but Ye Chen had other concerns. “Agreed, but we aren’t on New City Sect turf. We run the risk of being targeted by others if we cross paths,” he replied.
Li Mo concurred with Ye Chen’s caution, “Ye Chen is right. Our numbers match theirs, but we’re not far from Ghost City; a den of vice. We could easily get blindsided by other demons who want to help them, so we have to be careful.”
The disciple nodded somewhat after hearing this.
“The safest place is to retreat to your Tianle City,” Ye Chen suggested.
“But escaping Da Gui’s group and making it to Centipede Mountain makes this worthwhile.”
Touching his blistered wounds, Ye Chen remarked, “I’m not sure if it’s worth it.”
A disciple laughingly advised, “Don’t scratch it. That’ll make it itch more and might draw blood. If it ruptures, it’ll fester.”
“Do many of our disciples have the same condition?” Ye Chen asked.
Li Mo nodded, saying, “I’ll find a way to get them more medicine.”
“Right, we can’t just think about me.” Ye Chen applied some medicine, then returned the bottle, saying, “Some for our disciples too.”
Standing up, he was grateful for the few hours of sleep he managed to get in the first half of the night. Without it, he doubted his energy levels.
“Li Mo, try to locate Ci Ye’s group as soon as possible,” Ye Chen commanded.
“Ci Ye and his group might not know they’ve gone down the mountain yet.”
“If they don’t know, that would be ideal. Regardless, we should prepare for the worst and not count on luck.”
“I’ll get clarity as soon as possible.”
“Alright, I leave it in your hands. Wake me when our meal is ready. Let’s get down this mountain as soon as we can. This place really isn’t fit for human habitation,” Ye Chen concluded
Li Mo chuckled softly at this.
“Seriously, I’m barely holding up,” Ye Chen confessed.
“Rest, then.”
Ye Chen scanned the foot of the mountain. The quiet of the two sides felt somewhat eerie. Or perhaps it was the dense forest that even if someone would stir beneath its canopy, it would be hard to spot from the mountaintop.
A Winged Dragon surveyed from the sky.
For now, they could catch a breather. In the absence of Yang Jing, Da Gui and his men remained at the base of the mountain, and Ci Ye was probably more concerned with rescuing Yang Jing. Therefore, no one would pay attention to them, which made them the safest. They could eat in peace, then plot their next move.
Ci Ye’s followers soon returned, reporting, “We found more of those leaves.”
“Excellent, which means we’re on the right track,” Ci Ye responded.
“But the forest is very dense. They don’t start fires either, so finding them will require some time.”
“As long as we confirm they’re heading down the mountain, that’ll simplify things,” Er Gui chimed in.
“They don’t start fires, so we won’t either,” Ci Ye ordered. He didn’t want anyone to know that they were aware of Can Mo’s whereabouts.
“Understood, I’ll pass on the instructions.”
“The night is fast approaching, I see.”
