Chapter 203 - 203 197 Monster Tau Wu
?Chapter 203: Chapter 197: Monster Tau Wu Chapter 203: Chapter 197: Monster Tau Wu Ye Chen was also woken up, but he had slept quite well last night. The sky was just beginning to lighten, but the fog in the mountains was unusually thick, making it difficult for one to breathe, unconsciously agitating people.
“What’s going on? What happened?” Ye Chen looked up at the sky, which was still not very bright.
“Ci Ye’s people have started to move, they have already gotten up.” Li Mo said.
“Oh, they’re in such a hurry.” Ye Chen said, somewhat surprised.
“I think they have probably discovered Can Mo’s whereabouts, they seem a bit anxious, probably not wanting Can Mo’s group to get away.”
Ye Chen woke up sober, and hurriedly got up.
Li Mo said: “We can’t let them escape as well, maybe we could lend a hand when the time comes.”
“Their goal is definitely Yang Jing, to them, Yang Jing is of utmost importance.” Ye Chen stood up, stretched, and said: “In that case, hurry up and get moving, we have to keep up with them, we can’t let them throw us off.”
Li Mo woke up all his apprentices, made some hasty preparations, even though the food was ready, they did not wait to finish eating before departing, but instead ate while on the move.
“Let’s go”. Ye Chen didn’t want to be left behind by Ci Ye’s group. If they could withstand it, why couldn’t he? He was worried something might happen up ahead, and it was important to get there in time to help.
They also increased their pace.
By midday, unexpectedly, the sun made an appearance. Ordinarily, this should have been a good thing.
But the forest was like a steamer, without wind, the initial dampness and mugginess, the moisture hidden beneath the decaying leaves evaporating out, but unable to escape, trapped within the forest. The dampness in the forest was heavy, and it uncomfortable to breathe.
The pace of their march had to be increased. The people from Ci Ye up ahead, as if they were on a sugar high, ran exceptionally fast. There was already quite a distance between them which they couldn’t manage to close, and any moment they could lose them.
Suddenly, the forest became eerily quiet, and one’s own breathing became noticeable.
This kind of silence was frightening, as if there was an ambush. Ye Chen suddenly raised his hand, signaled for everyone to stop.
His heart was pounding with a sense of unease. This kind of silence was somewhat abnormal, and he could not shake off a sense of impending doom.
Li Mo approached and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Don’t you think it’s eerily quiet here?”
“You’re suggesting that there might be an ambush?” Li Mo continued, “But our men haven’t spotted any suspicious behaviour from Ci Ye’s group.”
Suddenly, there was movement in the thicket. The crowd held their breaths.
The disturbance among the trees multiplied, like a wave, beginning from the opposite side of the forest. From far to near, slowly advancing toward them, a whole row of trees began swaying.
Li Mo shouted, “It’s a trap, we’ve been ambushed.”
The disciples of the New City Sect immediately became tense and got ready for defense.
Li Mo was somewhat incredulous, he had been very cautious, how could Ci Ye ambush them without him realizing? He started blaming himself.
They formed a defensive circle, letting the Mutant Winged Dragon out. The mutant beasts were positioned in the very front, and the Winged Dragon took off first.
Ye Chen leaped forward, directly attacked with two palms, knocking down the trees in front of him. “Swoosh swoosh…” a dozen wild boars with leopard bodies emerged from the forest and rushed towards them. The sight was terrifying and tumultuous, their faces could only be described as hideous.
Li Mo said, “It’s Tau Wu.”
“What?”
“Tau Wu.”
Once Ye Chen knocked down those trees, the Tau Wu couldn’t hide any longer. They jumped out from all directions and surrounded them, as if they were about to execute a hunt.
Ye Chen rushed out, facing the Tau Wu which seemed to have sprouted wings and were flying at them to capture someone. Ye Chen would not let them succeed so easily. However, some disciples were caught off guard and were grabbed by them.
Panic instantly seized the crowd.
Some of them had been hidden in the treetops, all leaping down in succession.
Ye Chen hurriedly took command. Now more than ever they couldn’t afford to be in a muddle, they must hold their ground, or they would collapse in an instant.
Somebody said, “Damn, do you think the No. One Thieves brought these creatures here?”
“Nevermind that, just keep up the defense.”
The disciples started to panic. Suddenly, dozens of them jumped out, charging at them ferociously. This was definitely a hunt.
And they were surrounded on all sides.
The attacks were fiercest from the front and back, and although Ye Chen could manage the front well, he couldn’t handle the back. He said, “Li Mo, you take some people to the back, I’ll handle the front. We can’t separate, we must stay together.”
Li Mo quickly organized a few people and headed to the back.
Ye Chen muttered, “If you’re not scared then come at us. Why do all these people up front not provoke you, but we’re the ones you target? Is it because we are few in number?”
Ye Chen fought at the forefront, sending out several Green Dragons to give them a taste of his power.
“You can fly, huh? Let’s see how far you can fly.” With a swift motion, he released a few beams of energy, generating over a dozen streaks of light, first targeting those who could fly.
They scrambled to form their own battle formation, while these damn Tau Wu beasts seemed to have noticed this and took advantage of their chaotic situation. They swooped in from all sides, gnawing and scrutinizing their formation, seizing any opportunity to snatch people away. Quite a few had already been snatched.
Even though Ye Chen’s martial arts were exceptional, he was still one man, and could not deal with the ferocious Tau Wu beasts. The beasts were like they were starving, biting at every human they saw. Those bitten screamed in agony before disappearing into the woods, never to be seen again.
“Release our Crystal Beasts,” Ye Chen shouted. The subordinates at this point were panicking and had forgotten this strategy.
Doing so could reduce the number of giant beasts attacking them, lessening the pressure on their side.
Ye Chen was frantic, employing lightning and brandishing his sword, setting the woods in front of him aflame. He was starting to feel helpless, but the only thing he could do now was help steady the situation and drive off these monsters.
The earth shook from the intensity of the fight, causing one of the disciples to say, “Why are these monsters targeting us and not Ci Ye and his gang?”
Ye Chen murmured, “It must be because we’re fewer in number and they think they can bully us. Stop talking and focus on fighting. If we don’t put in more effort, we’ll keep losing brothers. Don’t worry about this side, protect your own positions. Remember, keep these monsters out, guard the formation, stay disciplined, and let the Crystal Beasts battle it out with them.”
The threat from the beasts seemed to grow even more as they charged at them. With their numbers already dwindling, covering the perimeter was becoming increasingly difficult.
“Remember, protect your own positions,” Ye Chen warned as he cast several palm strikes, driving out the monsters that had broken into the formation. Gradually, he regained control of the situation.
“I’ll take care of the ones on the trees,” declared Li Mofei as he flew up.
Some of the beasts were advancing through the trees, and with their low numbers, it was difficult to handle these agile monsters that seemed to be even more nimble than monkeys. Ye Chen focused on the trees, blasting beams of energy to knock down or burn the creatures climbing the tree trunks. He murmured, “Come on, if you’re not afraid of death, bring it on.”
The beasts poised to leap down from the trees were spotted by Ye Chen. Taking advantage of the fact they had not yet landed, he blasted them off the trees with a palm strike.
Soon, cries of the fighting reached the frontlines. Ci Ye, upon hearing them, asked the disciples nearby what was happening. Only then did he learn that they were being surrounded by the Tau Wu beasts.
Er Gui was thrilled. “Great! Seems like the heavens are helping us too. With these creatures attacking them, we don’t have to lift a finger to get rid of them.”
Ci Ye was slightly pleased. “Hurry up, we can’t let those up front escape. Let’s move.”
Er Gui remarked, “The appearance of these monsters is just in time. We’ve got no more concern about our rear.”
“Let’s move.”
Yet, as Ye Chen tried to fend off the endless waves of Tau Wu beasts, he had killed countless creatures in less than an hour. There was blood everywhere. If not for his effort, their protective wall would have been broken down by the beasts.
Some creatures managed to get up and launched another attack, capturing a dozen more people.
After fighting for some time, Ye Chen and Li Mo managed to stabilize the situation.
They consolidated their ground, gradually regaining control. By then, they had organized an elemental barrier formed by a group of Crystal Beasts, ready to withstand the Tau Wu beasts’ attacks. Any beast that wanted to penetrate the barrier had to pay a hefty price. It became harder for the creatures to reach the crowd. Ye Chen and his team figured out a way to deal with these vicious beasts, easing the fright of their fellows and certainly boosting their morale.
The Tau Wu beasts were by now finding it difficult to easily snatch humans from the crowd anymore.
Ye Chen kept a close watch for the ones in the trees, killing them as they descended. The ground attacks had been gradually brought under control. Their main worry now was preventing any beasts from using the trees as a way to infiltrate their ground.
Suddenly, Ye Chen struck down several tall trees, like throwing golden needles, ending the possible attacks from above.
With several bursts of energy, the trees on both sides collapsed, depriving the beasts of their hiding spots.
With all the nearby trees down, they didn’t have to worry about aerial attacks from the beasts anymore.
Now, they just needed to focus on the ground.
However, the Tau Wu beasts were adamant. They launched several more waves of attacks. At this point, Ye Chen managed to focus on the ground only. With the battle formation set, they had even more confidence in dealing with the beasts.
The Tau Wu beasts, in large groups, swooped in.
With Ye Chen and Li Mo blasting out several strikes, the beasts were drastically reduced in number. Ye Chen and his team gradually took control over the situation.
After several rounds of attack, the Tau Wu beasts were pushed back. They stood, issuing a kind of howling roar. Suddenly, there was a great roar from the other side, like thunder, as if something was summoning them. All the Tau Wu beasts stopped in their tracks, no longer launching their attacks.
They didn’t charge at them anymore. They suddenly stopped and turned around to disappear into the woods, heading in the direction of the roar.
Ye Chen and his team slowly let down their guards, recalling their Crystal Beasts.
But just as they had completely relaxed, a lone Tau Wu beast clamped onto a disciple’s coat and dragged him towards the woods.
