"I didn't expect him to leave so early either."

"Oh," she said. However, he could have still informed her, she did not have to ask herself. She sighed as the servants started to serve the second meal. This wasn't unusual, she always found out about things later than necessary.

The conversation dried up and she didn't know what else to say and it didn't feel appropriate to accuse him that he wouldn't have told her even if he knew.

"You didn't join us for the first meal, Mauve. Were you under the weather?" Sabrina suddenly asked with a concerned expression.

Mauve saw it even though she was not concentrating on them. Jael shot a look at Sabrina and Erick glared at her. Mauve adjusted in her seat as she prepared her response.

"No, I just overslept." She said with a forced chuckle. Mauve kept her gaze straight, staring at Lady Sabrina even though she could feel Jael's gaze on her.

"That's good. I was a bit worried. I thought to come by to check on you but I didn't want to bother you."

Mauve's eyes widened a little. "No, you wouldn't have been bothering me at all. However, you don't have to go that far, I am sure you have more important things to do." Mauve replied briefly glancing away from Sabrina and mumbling her thanks to the servant who served her food.

It was surprisingly easy to talk to the vampire and even though she knew there were most likely ulterior motives, she happily welcomed the attention.
