The Vastness of Magical Destiny

Chapter 41 - 41 16 Rescue

Chapter 41 - 41 16 Rescue

?Chapter 41: Chapter 16: Rescue Chapter 41: Chapter 16: Rescue Almost at the moment when the Gray Wolf Pack disappeared into the Forest, everyone lay down on the ground.

This life-or-death battle had nearly exhausted everyone’s energy, whether they were Thunderhorse Knights or Masked Knights, including Komer and the few others with him.

Now, all they wanted was to lie on the ground and rest well.

The only exception was Puber, who had been standing on top of the horse-drawn carriage; he had not participated in the battle. Apart from his lips turned blue and his face blackened by the chill from the Ice Magic breath sprayed out by the wolves, he wasn’t too damaged otherwise. In fact, he was quite delighted by the sight of the Gray Wolf corpses surrounding everyone.

Creatures like Gray Wolves, although not high-level, were not to be underestimated. Gray Wolf skins, after proper processing, are premium leather armor materials, far superior to regular cowhide light armors. They are several times more durable than cowhide and also light and flexible. What’s more rare is that Gray Wolves are Ice Magic beasts, so their skins have some resistance to Ice Magic attacks, making them favored by Adventurers.

If he could skin all these Gray Wolves, he was sure he could sell them for a good price, enough to compensate for the loss of three servants’ lives.

However, just as he lay down, the sole surviving Masked Knight suddenly jumped up. He remembered that his two companions had been frozen stiff by the blast of Magic breath from the Red-maned Wolves in their dying moments, which was very dangerous. If they weren’t rescued in time, they would likely lose their lives right there.

“Everyone, please help, I beg you, my two companions have been injured by the Gray Wolf’s Magic breath. Please use healing magic to help them,” the Masked Knight said. Clearly, he wasn’t very good at negotiating, his request was curt even in asking for help.

It was only then that the two Thunderhorse Knights, having caught their breath, had the energy to take a good look at the three individuals dressed like Masked Knights with their half-masked faces. It was clear that the three had been waiting for someone up front but had no choice but to band together to resist the attack of the Gray Wolf Pack that had come upon them abruptly. Now that the crisis had passed, the sudden appearance of the three in the depths of the Greenland Great Forest seemed rather odd. Moreover, they all displayed considerable strength.

Such individuals, showing a level of power comparable to the Thunderhorse Knights themselves, raised questions about their intentions. Were they targeting the Knights or the person under the Knights’ surveillance? These questions took root in the minds of the two knights, and the target, who showcased pure Mage prowess during the hand-to-hand combat, raised their alarm and wonder while also making them more cautious.

Indeed, being a Mage is a special profession that not just anyone can fulfill, and the startling performance of this target made it difficult for anyone to doubt whether he had always been hiding his true ability. However, if they were to conclude that the other party was associated with the dark or necromantic arts, the evidence was lacking.

While they wanted to ask about the stranger’s identity, the pride of a Knight made them worry that the other party might misunderstand their intention as making the rescue conditional upon disclosing one’s identity, so after some hesitation, they decided it was better to first rescue the other party’s companions before further discussion.

The outburst of the Red-maned Gray Wolves just before death was indeed formidable. Even though the two knights were directly subordinated to the Church of Light, the massive blast of freezing Magic breath had induced a state of suspended animation in the two Masked Knights, making the severity of the situation clear to the Thunderhorse Knights.

After they had both used basic recovery spells and even the Sacred Body Restoration multiple times, they still couldn’t awaken the two deeply comatose injured. Overusing their Spiritual Power left the two Thunderhorse Knights, already not very proficient in Magic, pale and unsteady, forcing them to sit down and rest with eyes closed in turn.

Komer indeed wanted to rescue the two frozen Masked Knights. Despite his suspicion about the origins and intentions of the three mysterious Masked Knights, and the tangible hostility exposed by the one named Pike, he still hoped to save them.

After all, they were wounded fighting alongside his group, and more importantly, he wanted to know if these odd individuals were targeting him, what reason was behind it, and what outcome they were hoping for.

But the momentary brilliance that had flashed under the urgent situation seemed to have completely vanished. At this time, he couldn’t recall why he had been able to cast such dazzling Magic so effortlessly. When the Masked Knight realized the two Thunderhorse Knights were powerless to aid his companions, he cast a complex gaze toward Komer. Komer’s display of magical prowess during the fierce combat filled him with hope.

“I’m sorry, Excellency, I think I’m not very good at this kind of healing magic, I can only do my best.” Faced with the expectant gaze of the other party, Komer felt a hint of pressure.

He tried hard to remember the healing spells he had once learned, but to his disappointment, since he was not interested in White Magic, even as he racked his brain, he could not recall any effective advanced magic. However, some vague spells seemed to slowly float up in his deep thought. He simply subconsciously felt it must be some kind of healing spell, and had no choice but to give it a try.

Surprisingly watching the target character chant for a while, then use a strange and bizarre posture to perform a healing technique he had never seen before, the Masked knight was so shocked that his mouth hung open.

The Thunderhorse Knight had just attempted to use the Church of Light’s unique Sacred Body Restoration technique without success, but under this fellow’s clumsy gestures, the two companions were quickly revived from the brink of death. This was simply a miracle, and the depth of magical power the other party demonstrated left him speechless.

The three Masked knights who had joined the group followed behind the three with Komer, and the three carriages recommenced their journey southward. Without the servants, they could only let Fran, Baoling, and Ilot temporarily take on the role of coachmen. With the help of Fran, Baoling, and Ilot, Puber finally completed a great feat—skinning all the Gray Wolves that had been killed, as long as their bodies were still intact.

Although the group traveled together, they unconsciously divided into three loose clusters: two Thunderhorse knights in front, three Masked knights lagging behind, and Komer’s group of five at the center, around the three carriages. The atmosphere did not change because everyone had escaped the peril of the Magical Beasts’ attack. On the contrary, it made the mutual wariness even thicker.

The three Masked knights made no explanations to Komer and the Thunderhorse knights; what they needed now was to recover their physical condition as quickly as possible. Jack and Morssen had suffered the Magic Breath attack of the Gray Wolves and had barely escaped death, but the attack had not caused much actual harm to their bodies. They just needed to focus on recuperating for a while to recover.

However, the external wounds they had sustained were a bit more troublesome, as the scratches from the Gray Wolves’ claws were tinged with poison. Although it wasn’t much for the two of them, their Inner Qi was severely depleted at this time, and they had to spend even more time adjusting and recovering.

After listening to Pike’s introduction of the astonishing strength exhibited by the target character, Jack fell into deep thought.

This Komer seemed to deviate greatly from the Komer he had originally understood. In his previous impression, Komer had been a typical spoiled and arrogant youngster, full of arrogance, lechery, greed, unrestrained behavior, coupled with a bit of cunning, hardly anything noteworthy about this guy. Yet, today’s performance had greatly exceeded his expectations; the other party had actually become a Mage, not a Magician!

In just three years, to have turned into a Mage, and a waste like Komer at that, he could not imagine anyone on the Continent capable of such a feat, not even the powerhouses of the major nations and the Church.

But the fact was right in front of him; this pure waste in his eyes had blinked and used the top-tier Ice Magic spell—”Hell Soul Training,” followed by another equally difficult “Golden Snake Dance”!

This was definitely a performance at the level of a Mage or higher. If it weren’t for being in immediate danger at the time, he would have rushed forward to grab this fellow, who had always eaten without working, and asked him where he learned such marvelous skills. He simply could not believe that any strong magician in the magic community would take such trash as an apprentice; such a thought was an insult to the typically exacting magic community.

Yet, this very trash not only saved everyone in the end but also managed to use healing magic to pull him back from the gates of hell. Jack had never thought he would go to heaven after death, and he was even less willing to think that heaven is where the people living there are much dirtier and more hypocritical than those in hell.

What to do now, given the current situation? This was what Jack needed to consider. The two unexpected Thunderhorse knights had already added many variables to this mission, and now the target character’s strength had greatly exceeded his expectations. Could it really be that they would return without accomplishing anything this time?

Fallen Knights had never had the precedent of automatically returning without stepping onto the Battlefield, especially when he still bore the important trust of someone he had never betrayed. Thinking of this, the eager trust in that person’s eyes seemed to fall on his back again, and Jack subconsciously straightened up.
