Chapter 28 - 28 20 Flame River_1

?28: Chapter 20 Flame River_1 28: Chapter 20 Flame River_1 This is a world of liquid magma, a paradise of flames.

This is another vast cave, awash in light.

The outermost part of the cave is a ring of rocky ground, six or seven meters wide, with a large lava lake in the center.

At the boundary, the high temperature causes the rocks to form peculiar crystals, preventing the lava from eroding the rocky ground.

Bubbles continuously rise from the bottom of the boiling lava lake, bursting at the surface.

Each burst sends a trail of flames surging towards the sky.

The scorching heat permeates the entire cave, even distorting the rays of light in the air, draping the surface of the lava lake in a haze of colours.

In this world of high temperatures, it is not empty or monotonous.

Numerous fire elemental creatures wander in the lava lake, frolicking on its surface, or disappearing into its depths.

The lethal lava that can easily kill ordinary creatures is a paradise for fire elemental creatures.

The appearance of fire elemental creatures is quite unique.

They have no legs below the knees, or rather no thighs at all.

Everything below the knees is entirely transformed into a ball of flame, floating on the surface of the lava lake.

Above the knees are two thighs, fused together.

The upper body is not much different from humans, except that it’s entirely made of lava and flame, and the boundaries between body parts are vague, often looking like a ball of fire.

“Elemental creatures can be born in extreme environments around the Elemental Core.

High temperatures give birth to fire elements, deep sea births water elements, deep underground births earth elements, and being struck by thunder for a long time births air elements,” said Lina, curiously looking at the fire element floating in the center of the lava lake, “Although I’ve read about it countless times, this is the first time I’ve seen an elemental creature with my own eyes.

They have such beautiful colors.”

“You should have seen elemental creatures before, um, if nothing unexpected happened,” Pannis corrected, “There are some on the surface.”

“Seen?” Lina’s eyes widened in surprise, an odd amusement sparked across her composed face, “Why don’t I know about it?”

“Sand People,” Vivian’s adoring gaze fixated on the elemental creatures in the distance, as if eager to hold one for study, “I guess it’s Sand People, a variation of earth elemental creatures.”

“Yes, it’s the Sand People,” Pannis pointed to the distant fire elements and explained, “These elemental creatures, as long as their Elemental Core isn’t destroyed, they won’t die.

If they are fatally wounded, they’ll just fall into a slumber, and in a few decades, they’ll wake up again.

However, the reawakened elemental creatures will have lost their previous memories, like newborns.

Fortunately, the birth of elemental creatures is difficult, otherwise, the Continent would already be filled with them.”

“Lost their memories?

Does that mean they have divine wisdom?” Catherine seized the key point, “Do all elemental creatures have wisdom?

I thought the Sand People were an exception.”

“Newborn elemental creatures don’t have wisdom.

It’s not that they don’t have wisdom, it’s just really low, like a newborn infant, mostly acting on instinct.

After about forty or fifty years, they’ll have wisdom equivalent to that of a three or four-year-old human child.

There are probably fifteen or sixteen wise ones in this lava lake we’re seeing now.

The others aren’t yet matured,” Pannis said, grabbing Vivian’s wrist to stop her from approaching for a closer look, but then noticed something strange about her wrist and didn’t have time to think, “Don’t go there yet.

Although they’re considered friendly creatures, they’re really too friendly.

Especially the immature ones, they always like to play with other life forms and they do not know how to curtail their high temperatures.

It’s lethal.”

Vivian appeared to dislike being touched by others.

She violently shook off Pannis’s hand and glared at him awkwardly while steering the conversation elsewhere, “Isn’t their divine wisdom affected by demonized energy?”

“No,” Pannis ignored Vivian’s dissatisfaction, “Elemental creatures are the only creatures that cannot be tainted by demonized energy.

They’re also the only communicable creatures in the lower layers of the Crying Cave.”

“Hey, you asshole over there, if you don’t bring your team to help, there won’t be any communicable creatures left,” a deep, female voice called from a distance, low but alluring.

The sudden sound startled the women; Rachel even took out her crystal gun for precaution.

Pannis stopped Rachel’s action and raised his voice, “You people are too busy playing with the kids.

Why should it be us who help?”

“Are you blind?” A streak of fire fell from the sky, forming a human shape in front of the five people, “Which of your eyes sees us playing with kids?

We’re being fucking assaulted.”

The human-shaped fire mimics the exact form of a human: bright red hair, long legs, slender waist, full chest, even beautiful facial features are discernible.

Apart from the charred skin color and faint high temperature, it does not look any different from an average human being.

“Dylan, leader of the fire elements in Crying Cave,” Pannis introduced for both sides, “They are from Nellie adventure team, as well as a member of the Brenos adventure team.

They are all visiting here for the first time.

You should not have seen them.”

“Hello, Miss Dylan.

I’m Catherine, from the Nellie adventure team,” Catherine tried to greet tentatively, “You’re so beautiful.”

“Thank you.” Dylan looked obviously pleased when she heard the compliment, and she flirted with her flame hair that draped over her shoulder.

“She is beautiful.

This form is allegedly that of a female adventurer leader from fifty years ago, which she liked very much.

After that adventurer went missing, she borrowed this appearance,” Pannis thought for a moment and added, “Oh, before borrowing this appearance, her form was male.”

Three of the women stepped back in unison with an awkward look on their faces.

Only Lina’s bright eyes remained fixed on Dylan, “I understand, I understand.”

“It’s not what you’re thinking.

We elemental creatures don’t have genders,” Dylan hurriedly explained.

Suddenly, she grabbed Pannis by the collar, “You bastard Pannis, are you going to help or not?”

“First, let off some heat.

You’re starting to smoke.” Pannis rescued their smoldering clothes, “What on earth happened?

Why did the children suddenly attack you?”

A look of desperation humanized Dylan’s gorgeous face, “A few hours ago, two strange people passed by here.

Those two people were very odd, their living breath was very weak, and they felt like two dead people, Not undead, but actual dead people.

We don’t know what kind of magic they used, but as soon as they left, the children started attacking us.

Colas said he felt like it was common illusion magic or mind magic that we creatures often used.

As long as we persisted till the end of the magic duration, we would be fine.

We didn’t want to hurt the children, so we could only passively defend in the lake.

Some of our people are already injured.

Ah, you almost made me forget again, damn it, are you going to help or not?”

“We will help,” Catherine responded before Pannis could, “But we can’t go down to the lake.”

“We can come out and meet up with you,” Dylan did not hide his emotions, his face full of joy.

He opened his mouth and shouted toward the Lava Lake in a completely incomprehensible language.

With Dylan’s shout, thirteen eruptions erupted from the center of the magma lake, and bundles of flames fell from the sky, landing next to the five of them.

“Actually, you could have given us some time to prepare.” Lina blankly watched the hundreds of juvenile Fire Elements who had lost their targets and turned their attention to them, and couldn’t help but complain in a low voice.

“Retreat to the cave entrance for defense.” Catherine issued the command and retreated to the previous cave entrance with the team and the adult Fire Elements.

“Be careful.” As they retreated into the cave entrance, the Fire Elements murmured, “Please don’t hurt the children.”

“You shouldn’t get hurt either.”

“Don’t use ice-attribute magic, or else the children will become furious even if they wake up.”

“Our power will weaken once we leave the Lava Lake, so we can’t help you.”

“Element, Fire Shield.” A bright shield formed close to Lina and Catherine.

Vivian panted and said, “The shield can absorb a lot of fire damage.

Be careful out front.”

“Divine Spell, Terrain Change.” Lina knelt on one knee and summoned a huge rock to seal the cave entrance, “This should block them off.”

The words had not yet fallen when a dull thunder-like explosion sounded from the other side of the rock.

In just a few minutes, the rocks sealing the cave entrance were blasted into pieces by a sky full of fireballs.

The shattered rocks, along with the rocks falling from the top of the cave, made it impossible for the five of them to lift their heads.

“Lina, we can’t block the path with rocks anymore.” Catherine shouted in the explosion, “If we keep blasting like this, the whole passageway will collapse, and we’ll all be buried underneath, no one can escape.”

“Then we have no choice but to fight.” Lina, looking at the many Fire Elements that had already rushed into the passage, empowered herself with divine power.

Wielding a glowing hammer, she charged towards juvenile Fire Elements.

Catherine held up the Falcon Shield in front of her, sending two attacking enemies flying with a charge, and moved to Lina’s side.

“Element, Hurricane.” A violent hurricane sprang up in front of Catherine and Lina.

The strong impact blew the juvenile Fire Elements in the passage into the air where they landed outside the passage.

With the hurricane Vivian sent, the two melee girls advanced a few steps and blocked the entrance of the passage, keeping the Fire Elements outside the passageway.

“Boom.” The sound of Rachel’s Crystal gun echoed in the passage.

A mass of earth-yellow Crystal Energy shot out of Rachel’s gun.

Under the impetus of the earth-attribute Crystal Energy, two juvenile Elements flew a considerable distance and fell into the Lava Lake.

It took a while for them to crawl out of the lake and continue to attack the cave entrance as if nothing had happened.

“Creation, Spider Web.” Vivian’s magic staff pointed towards the outside of the passageway, and a spider web composed of Elements dropped from the sky, capturing a large number of Fire Elements, limiting their movements.

But only a few seconds later, the spider web turned to ashes under the high temperature of the Fire Elements.

“What a hassle,” Vivian grumbled resentfully, “Element, Lightning Net.”

The electro-luminescent big net once again fell from the sky, shackling more than twenty Fire Elements.

This time, it successfully restricted them for a full three minutes.

“Good thing this works.” Vivian swung her magic staff continuously, “Lightning Net, Lightning Net, Lightning Net.”

The seven successive electric nets controlled most of the juvenile Elements gathered at the entrance of the passage.

The remaining juvenile Elements in the distance couldn’t come close and could only throw fireballs into the passage from afar, which were intercepted by Catherine and Lina who were protected by the Fire Shield.

After casting the spells, Vivian leaned on her magic staff, guzzled down two potions, and sat down against the wall a little distance away, “I drank a Meditation Potion.

I need to meditate for three minutes to recover my mana.

You guys carry on.” As she said that, she closed her eyes and fell into deep contemplation.
