“Boom, boom.” The continuous roar echoed in the spiderweb-like underground cavern.

The frenzied Legendary Rank demonic giant python tailgated Pannis closely.

Large clusters of Ice Blasts were spat out from the serpent’s mouth, but Pannis, without even looking back, skillfully dodged them with minimal effort.

“Squeak squeak.” Turning from a curved path, a wandering horde of roughly a thousand demonic gigantic rats detected Pannis’s life energy.

Every muscle in their bodies tensed, as if beholding a mortal enemy, they surged towards him.

Facing over a thousand Bronze Rank magical creatures, Silver Rank Pannis acted as if he was oblivious to their existence and stormed right into them.

Weaving near the rat swarm, Pannis leapt high up into the left tunnel, propelling himself from the left wall to the right rock formation.

He maneuvered back and forth between the two sides, effortlessly bypassing the rat swarm, never slowing down.

Suddenly, their target disappeared.

The confused swarm of rats had yet to change their course when a ball of frosty cold Ice Blast hurled towards them, smashing into the spot where Pannis had jumped.

The unfortunate rat horde caught in its path all perished in the lethal frost.

The remaining rats hadn’t yet recovered when an imposing body barrelled over them with an echoing roar.

The massive and heavy body of the snake gave no regard for the rodent mass below it, as if they didn’t exist.

Thousands were crushed under its weight, almost wiping out the entire horde.

Only a hundred or so rats survived, trembling in fear as they hid in the small cracks of the cave.

“Tsk, it is indeed a crushing defeat.

What an annoying enemy to have, using its size to overbear its opponent,” Pannis suddenly dove forward, using one hand to support himself on the ground.

Utilising the momentum from sprinting at high speed, his body slid forward in the air parallel to the ground, narrowly missing an Ice Blast coming from above, which crashed into the rock wall in front of him.

“This won’t do, its long-range as well as close-quarter attacks are too overwhelming, I can’t shake it off and I can’t slip away either.

Looks like, it’s time for a final showdown.”

Determining his course of action, Pannis looked around, picked an expansive passageway, and dashed into a rather large cave in it.

He sprinted to the center of the den, suddenly coming to a halt from high speed, as if inertia was a foreign concept to him.

He turned to face the rampaging giant python.

“Heh, come on.” Facing the nearing python, Pannis crossed his arms, a cold smirk playing on his lips.

His eyes were devoid of any emotion as he coldly watched his adversary burst into the hall behind him.

The python, spurred by its rage, had lost all sense of reason.

It made no hesitation at the strange reaction of its enemy up ahead.

The hissing from its nostrils became louder.

Without pause and even without breathing, it powered forward, aiming its immense body towards Pannis directly.

Pannis’s scornful smirk deepened.

Facing the encroaching python, he still did not move, standing nonchalantly without attempting to dodge or defend.

“Boom.” A deep rumble vibrated through the entire cavern.

Upon contact, Pannis, having taken the full impact of the python’s collision, was instantly flung away.

His broken body, shattered in innumerable places, had no living tissue left.

The python, still not reassured, deftly coiled its tail, pulling Pannis’s lifeless body back to itself.

“Boom boom boom boom,” continuous crashes echoed.

The python’s tail, grasping Pannis, repeatedly smashed against the cavern floor over ten times.

Only after not sensing any life energy from Pannis’s body did it finally stop.

The python, having finally exacted its revenge, regained its senses.

Growing smarter over time, only now did it start to question the strange actions Pannis had taken in his final moments.

It extended its forked tongue to explore and confirmed that its enemy was indeed dead.

Still not entirely convinced, it used its tail to bring the corpse close to itself and performed a typical python move.

It coiled a short part of its body around the corpse from head to toe and gave it a squeeze.

There was a sound of bones cracking once again.

Pannis, whose body was already in shambles, now became entirely unrecognizable, lying limp on the ground like a torn sack.

Now finally reassured, the python sniffed the corpse, explored it with its tongue a few times, and then gave a few contended twists on the ground before it opened its mouth and swallowed the corpse bit by bit.

The python, after eating Pannis’s corpse, did not feel satisfied and still felt hungry.

After hesitating briefly between finding more food and going back to hibernate, it quickly convinced itself to return to its lair to sleep.

“I have actually heard of this research institute before.” In a small spore forest near the Frost Realm, five ladies huddled under a large mushroom cap.

Four of them were listening intently to Indulgence’s intriguing story.

“This research institute should have been built more than 780 years ago by the Naren Empire,” Indulgence reminisced out loud.

“It was mentioned in some hidden records of the Shadow Hand Guild.”

“Which country is the Naren Empire?” Vivian was entirely unfamiliar with this name.

“An empire that ceased to exist hundreds of years ago,” Indulgence informed, shaking her head.

“That empire used to control the Shining Forest, parts of Bylgas River, and sections of Nala Mountain Range.

The Crying Cave fell right within their territory.

However, they were overthrown over 600 years ago.

The empire had to invest heavily in the research institute, which weakened them substantially and ultimately led to their downfall.

Now, not a single trace of them remains in the river of time.”

“So, what exactly were they researching before they were destroyed?” Vivian urged Indulgence, who always beat around the bush.

“Immortality,” Indulgence scoffed coldly, a look of disdain on her face.

“Their emperor lost his mind and was hell-bent on achieving immortality.

He therefore committed all of the empire’s human, material, and financial resources into researching an immortality potion.

Hah, he wanted to accomplish something that, aside from Deities and some Deities from the First Epoch who were touched by Divinity, is unachievable.”

“Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, death is an unavoidable end, and life will eventually return to the embrace of the earth deity.” Lina extended her right hand and drew a square on her chest, speaking in a pitiful tone: “No one can escape eternal sleep, but some do foolish things out of fear of it, they are truly pitiful.”

“So he was foolish.” Indulgence did not share Lina’s sympathy and said mockingly, “He died before even seeing progress in the research.

His son continued to invest heavily, but unfortunately, a burst of Demonized Energy erupted in the research institute’s location, which is the lower level of Crying Cave.

All the researchers were demonized; not a single one survived, and nobody could enter the institute ever again.

The second emperor, who dreamed of conquering, soon died in a war with neighboring countries, and the entire nation quickly fell apart.

You are looking for this institute?

Is there anyone who wants to take away the research materials and continue the study?”

“Probably not.” Lina wanted to announce the final goal of a few people, but she stopped in time.

She looked at Catherine for confirmation on whether she should discuss the mission with Indulgence, only to find that Catherine was clearly lost in thought, seemingly contemplating something.

“Big sis, what’s wrong?” Lina nudged Catherine’s shoulder: “Are you okay?”

“Huh?

What?” Catherine’s attention was brought back by Lina with a look of confusion: “Did something happen?”

“What were you thinking about?” Lina asked with concern: “Are you really okay?”

“I’m worried about Pannis.” Catherine said with a furrowed brow: “I have a feeling of unease, I hope nothing happens.”

“He doesn’t need your worry.”Indulgence was obviously very confident in Pannis: “The ones praised by Passion cannot be stopped by these trivial problems.

The sound of the distant fight has been quiet for a long time, he should be back soon.”

“I hope it’s really like that.” Catherine shook her head heavily, as if trying to shake off the unease in her mind: “I hope he is as confident as he says.”

Indulgence knew that this kind of thing could not be resolved with a few comforting words, so he just laughed and continued: “Although several hundred years have passed, and basically no one knows about this anymore, I happened to see this intelligence report.

It said that, in order to ensure the safety of the institute and for convenience of entry without having to travel through such a long cave, the normal way to the institute was by teleportation.

The Teleportation Array was built in the capital of the Naren Empire.”

“So, you mean we need to teleport from the outside?” Catherine said in surprise: “Does that mean we came here for nothing?

We have to enter again from the outside?”

“Of course not, the Teleportation Array cannot be found now, and even if it could be found, it has ceased to function after hundreds of years.” Indulgence said: “When they built the institute at first, they considered the situation that the Array might fail due to unexpected circumstances, so they left a backup route that allows direct entry without teleportation.”

“Wait a moment before you continue.” Catherine stopped Indulgence from going on: “Pannis is not here, even if you talk we won’t understand.

You’ll have to repeat it all over again when Pannis comes back, so it’s better to wait until Pannis is back before we all discuss it.”

“Go ahead, I’m listening.” Pannis’s voice suddenly came from under the mushroom.

“Pannis, you’re back?” Catherine stood up with a look of delight, just in time to see Pannis jumping lightly onto the umbrella.

After inspecting Pannis’s condition and finding him still intact, even his clothes weren’t much wrinkled and looked not different when he left, she finally breathed a sigh of relief: “It’s good that you’re fine, it’s good.”

“I told you, I’m not going to die.” Pannis, looking as composed as usual, walked over and sat down next to the ladies: “So, there’s no need to worry about me.”

“It’s good that you’re back.

Looks like you’ve done very well, huh.” Indulgence winked at Pannis: “So, did you get rid of it?”

“Well, you could say that I did.” Pannis wore a very strange expression on his face.

Far away from the group, in a cave, a giant python, thirty meters long, was tragically soaking in its own pool of blood.

A massive wound was on the python’s abdomen, from which large amounts of black blood and numerous fragments of internal organs flowed out, drenching the entire cave floor.

The giant wound was like an enlarged silent mouth, mockingly revealing the tragic ending of one of the cave’s underground tyrants.
