Apocalypse: I Built the Infinite Train

Chapter 130: Entering the City

Chapter 130: Entering the City

Buzzzzz—

On the Yubei City freight rail, a heavy train rumbled forward, followed closely by a long convoy of trucks and off-road vehicles, moving like a dark tide toward Yubei City No. 1 Spaceport.

As they passed through a mountain valley, the main city came into view. With nightfall approaching, the entire city was swallowed in a gray-black haze, looking somber and desolate.

Before Apocalypse Day, Yubei City was the largest industrial and freight hub in the southwest, serving as the gateway to the Huanxing Orbital Rail from Tianhai Province. It was once known as the Pearl of Tianhai.

Now, the once-thriving aerial rail pillars that had propelled the city's economy stood tall over the Dazhu Plateau, resembling towering tombstones. The howling wind swept through the ruins, echoing a dirge for humanity.

As the train advanced, zombies began appearing along the tracks. The roar of engines and clatter of wheels drew their attention, and soon, they started chasing after the convoy.

More and more zombies joined the pursuit, but the convoy remained disciplined—no one fired a shot, no vehicle fell behind.

Watching through the train’s nuclear-powered camera feed, Lin Xian felt a sense of respect—the surviving convoys were clearly no ordinary groups.

What surprised him even more was that Old Mo, Shu Qin, and Xu Jin’s teams seemed to have a good amount of Eerie Blood Crystals.

Did they have hidden experts in their ranks?

After all, the eerie entities he had encountered so far were... something else entirely.

“If we had a hundred people on this train, each equipped with a grenade launcher, we’d basically have a mobile heavy artillery unit.”

The idea was tempting. With his Mechanical Heart, building a firepower-based survival convoy was completely feasible.

But before he could dwell on his expansion plans, his expression stiffened at the sight ahead.

As the train entered the city, the tracks were lined with high walls and barbed wire.

Beyond the fences, the streets were packed with moving figures—a dense, black tide of zombies, stretching endlessly.

SCREEECH!

The ground shuddered as the horde howled, triggered by the train’s vibrations.

Behind him, Shu Qin, Xu Jin, and Old Mo also saw the sight and visibly tensed.

A full-city zombie tide!

“Attention! Do NOT fire! Stay close to the Infinite Train! Do NOT break formation!”

Xu Jin’s voice came through the radio, cold and firm.

If the zombie horde broke into the tracks or split the convoy, it would be a massacre—only the heavy trucks stood a chance of pushing through. Regular off-road vehicles would be instantly swallowed.

As they moved deeper into the city, zombies flooded every street, an ocean of the undead.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Suddenly, a series of explosions erupted far ahead—the sound rolled closer like thunder.

Gunfire and engine roars echoed through the streets.

Lin Xian’s gaze locked onto the right front side of the convoy—in the distance, a massive cluster of zombies was shifting, rushing toward the source of the explosions.

The scene turned bizarre—some zombies charged the convoy’s fences, while others sprinted toward the distant battle.

“Looks like another convoy is in combat.”

Shu Qin’s voice came through the radio.

Xu Jin remained calm. “Stay on alert. It’s not our fight. Hold formation.”

“Deploy drones for recon.”

Lin Xian ordered KIKI, who responded without hesitation. Two drones lifted off, soaring toward the battlefield while the train continued forward.

DA-DA-DA-DA-DA!!!

Gunfire, collisions, and screeching brakes grew louder. The drones soon transmitted live footage.

“Got eyes on them!”

KIKI’s voice carried a hint of shock.

“It’s a large convoy, but they’re not running from zombies—they’re chasing another convoy!”

Pursuit?

Who the hell would be fighting in the middle of a zombie-infested city?

Lin Xian immediately relayed the intel across the convoy’s comms.

Shu Qin, sensing something off, ordered her team’s own drone to close in.

As the video feed showed more vehicles, Shu Qin’s face darkened. She grabbed her radio and shouted:

“I know that convoy! That’s the Black Crow Four!”

The moment she said it, Xu Jin and Old Mo’s faces hardened.

Even Lu Xingchen, whistling in his luxury RV, suddenly went silent, his gaze sharp as he peered toward the battle ahead.

“Weren’t they just four guys with four vehicles?” Lin Xian frowned.

“I don’t know. Maybe they absorbed other convoys and grew stronger. But I recognize their signature vehicles.”

“Who are they?” Chen Sixuan asked.

Lin Xian answered, “A group we heard about on the radio earlier.”

Chen Sixuan’s expression turned anxious. “They made it this far? Aren’t they afraid of retaliation from other survivor groups or the Phoenix Guild?”

“Yubei City is already overrun. Other than the spaceport, no one’s in control anymore.”

Lin Xian wasn’t sure what these lunatics were after, but they were known for hunting Ability Users.

Were they trying to power up by killing them?

“With this many of us, they wouldn’t dare attack us... right?”

Lin Xian’s expression turned cold. “That depends on whether they come near us.”

“If they do...”

“Then we make the first move.”

Their priority was reaching the spaceport, but knowing that this was the same group that once tried to wipe them out with a zombie horde, Lin Xian couldn’t let it go.

Especially after hearing that they had an Ability to control zombies—if such power was in friendly hands, it’d be a game-changer. But in the hands of murderers, it was a catastrophic threat.

“Luo Ye, Shasha—stay alert. If anyone gets close, take them out.”

“Copy that!” Shasha’s voice crackled over the radio.

“Got it!”

In Carriage No. 2, KIKI sat cross-legged, floating slightly in the air, enjoying the newfound control over her evolved Ability.

Shu Qin pulled out a black Remington M96, her eyes filled with killing intent. “Lin, if they spot us, they’ll likely attack immediately.”

Lin Xian narrowed his eyes, watching as the city’s fog thickened.

“I know. The fog’s rolling in—hold formation. I’ll keep watch.”

“A fight, huh? Guess us old men should join in too.”

Old Mo’s voice boomed over the radio, brimming with battle spirit.

“Good!”

Xu Jin gritted his teeth, watching the distant street.

He grabbed his radio and alerted all vehicles.

“Prepare for combat.”
