Chapter 1067: An Obvious Trap
Chapter 1067: An Obvious Trap
As Lenny and the Old Elf continued to work on the boxes, solving the puzzles, they easily found that it was not all like they thought it was.
For example, not more than ten boxes could be opened at once, else all the boxes would close up, go back to their previous setting and then even worse, reshuffle themselves at extreme speed within the room.
This particular thing happened three times, already and Lenny and the old Elf had already decided to forget about the possible benefit and just leave the place for the next room, but that was when the old man managed to open up a box and then, in front of him were runes of a many kinds, all bunched up together in a delicate balance, as if to command and control, direct and lead.
"Law!" the Old Elf thought to himself. law fragments were a mystery of nature. They were everywhere, commanding and controlling everything in existence, yet they were nowhere.
Yet, just like these ones, they were made from the spiritual, chemical and physical combination of runes, at such the right angle, balance and even entanglement to form laws.
Normal people regardless of magic affinity could not use runes. This was the same way that not all rune users could comprehend laws.
Laws were so rare in comprehension that it was rumored that only those that were of the Arcane realm could truly have them. Of course, there was also those lucky ones that had been fortunate enough to have been born in a royal demon family, and had awakened the bloodline of their Primordial demon progenitor.
For someone like this old Elf that had worked his entire youth up till this point just to acquire knowledge, this was without a doubt an unpresidential favor from the cosmos.
After all, laws were very rare. If he were to absorb this law, and comprehend its secrets, then he might even be able to leap in power into the realm of Arcane users, and even be able to form a semi-Arcane domain.
He took a side look at Lenny as he worked, and even gazed at Lenny’s farm animals a bit. he could tell that none of them were seeing him.
The Centaurs guarded in case of trouble. Of course, the only danger that had come so far was from the solved cubes, but Lenny was the type that always enjoyed covering up his ass, hence the centaurs.
Also, it could provide temporary piece of mind for them as they worked.
However, this old elf did not announce this finding. He had no desire to share such a win with no one. Waving, his hand to absorb the law fragments, he pulled it into his soul.
As he did, ecstasy filled his mind and he did not notice that the last law-rune fragment was a little weird in nature, in that unlike the others that were gold in color, it was red.
The moment it was detached from the body of the cube, everything suddenly turned red.
The boxes all over the place began to turn red, and then this huge room suddenly began to close up on all four corners.
Sharp rune spikes projected from the walls. Lenny and the old Elf turned to one another, with Lenny screaming, "What have you done!?"
The old Elf did not say anything. only stammering. Lenny shook his head, this was not the time to be throwing around blame. He added, "We need to get out of here. Those spikes are the same as the soul spikes within the cubes that crush any and everything."
The only way out was to solve the Rubik’s cube. Lenny turned to the other cubes that had been solved before, but the cubes had all closed up, including the ones with the Devils within.
Their only choice was to solve the one Rubik’s cube before Lenny, but this one had changed formation. Each minor box now had six colors, and the box had become bigger, becoming a 200 by 200 Rubik’s cube.
The worst part was that the boxes seemed to have come to life, moving and changing their locations as if they had come to life. This time around, Lenny frowned. After all, he had to solve this, or else they would die in this place. The walls were still drawing closer.
The air was slowly being filled with tension, the smell of ozone from the active runes permeating the room.
The red glow that came from all the other boxes cast an eerie light, making the walls seem even more menacing as they closed in. The sound of grinding stone and the sharp clinking of the rune spikes projecting from the walls added to the urgency.
Lenny’s eyes darted around the room, his mind racing to comprehend the chaotic patterns of the moving cubes. The Old Elf stood beside him, a look of regret and fear etched on his face, but also a glint of determination. The Centaurs, still ever vigilant, stood ready, their eyes scanning the area in case of a threat at such a time.
"Focus, old man!" Lenny barked. "We need to solve this, and fast."
The Old Elf nodded, his hands trembling slightly as he reached out to touch the massive cube. The shifting colors and constant motion made it dizzying to look at, but Lenny forced himself to concentrate.
He could see the patterns, the runes intertwined within the cube, and he knew he had to manipulate them correctly.
As Lenny worked, the walls continued to close in, the spikes inching closer. The temperature in the room seemed to rise, sweat dripping down their faces as they frantically tried to solve the puzzle. Each move had to be precise; one wrong move could mean resetting the entire cube and losing precious time.
Lenny’s fingers danced over the cube, his mind working at a furious pace. The Old Elf tried to assist, but Lenny could no longer care and just told him to step aside as he did the most surprising thing ever.
Lenny sat on the ground, not doing anything.
