Chapter 1162: Lady Death Claims Her betrothed!

Chapter 1162: Lady Death Claims Her betrothed!

Lenny’s soul was suffocating under the crushing weight of betrayal, pain, and loss. The revelations had shattered him in ways he never thought possible, leaving him drifting in a sea of despair that seemed endless. Every memory that once defined him was now tainted, every victory a bitter reminder of Lucifer’s manipulation. He felt hollow, his will slipping away, his very existence unraveling.

His entire life had been a lie—built meticulously, brick by brick, by the being he adored the most. The man he had become, the strength he had fought to maintain, his struggles, his defiance—it had all been orchestrated by Lucifer. The realization drained the fight from him, leaving nothing but an empty vessel. Lenny had faced death countless times, but this was worse. This was the death of his soul.

A crushing cold gripped his heart, his chest heaving with the weight of it all. His thoughts spiraled into darkness. Was there ever any hope? Was there ever anything real? He thought of all the people he had lost, the blood he had shed, the sacrifices made—and it was all for nothing. Lucifer had been pulling the strings all along. His life was a puppet show, and he had been the star performer, ignorant of the master behind the curtain.

Lenny’s knees buckled, his body crumbling under the strain. His hands shook as he clutched at his chest, trying to hold onto whatever fragments of himself were left. But there was nothing—nothing but the overwhelming sorrow that drowned him. His mind screamed to give up, to surrender to the void, to let the Morningstar consume him and end the torment.

In that moment, Lenny felt Lucifer’s soul pressing closer, ready to devour him. The golden tendrils of Lucifer’s essence crept around him, coiling tighter and tighter, until it felt as though he would be swallowed whole. The serpent Anguis tightened its grip around his soul, binding him further, while the harp’s strings burrowed deeper into his flesh, melding with him as if they were becoming one with his being. He could feel his identity slipping away, merging with Lucifer’s. His thoughts became muddled with the Morningstar’s, his memories tainted by the lies of a being that had once been perfect.

But just as all hope seemed lost, something stirred.

In the physical world, lying close to Naamah, the page from the Book of Death erupted into black flames. The flames crackled with silent intensity, the page burning away until it lifted off the ground, a dark blur shooting into the sky, rushing toward Purgatory with purpose.

Simultaneously, within Lenny’s consciousness, the page stored inside the Satan system ignited with the same black flames. The fire consumed it, and suddenly, the page that had flown from the real world collided with the one in his mind. The two merged together in a surge of dark energy, their essence intertwining and wrapping around Lenny’s soul like a protective cloak.

The world around Lenny shifted.

Everything went black.

His body froze as he entered a trance-like state. Smoke, thick and heavy, swirled around him, the darkness pierced by the occasional flicker of black flames. His mind was enveloped in an eerie silence, and for a brief moment, there was nothing—no pain, no despair. Just silence.

Then, a voice.

It was soft, seductive, a whisper that sent a shiver down his spine. "My betrothed…" The words echoed in the void, carried by the smoke. Cold, bony fingers wrapped themselves around him, their touch both comforting and menacing. The voice continued, laced with amusement. "Have you lost yourself? Where is the fire that once burned in you…?"

Lenny’s breath hitched. He recognized the voice. It was Lady Death. Her presence was undeniable, her essence coiling around him like a serpent, her grip unyielding.

"Ahh, I see…" she whispered, her voice brushing against his ear, "Daddy issues? Has the Morningstar taken it from you?"

Her laugh was soft but sharp, cutting through the darkness like a blade. Lenny’s heart pounded, his despair momentarily eclipsed by the strange mix of dread and comfort that Lady Death’s presence brought. Her fingers caressed his soul, cold and possessive, as if to remind him that he belonged to her.

But beneath her seductive words was a challenge. A test. Lady Death wasn’t here to coddle him. She was here to see if the fire that once burned in him was truly gone—or if, despite everything, Lenny would rise from the ashes.

As the darkness swirled around Lenny, Lady Death’s voice softened, shifting from its teasing tone to something more profound, almost nurturing. Her bony fingers traced along the edges of his soul, her grip both delicate and firm. The black flames that had consumed everything now flickered gently, casting eerie shadows around him.

"Who is Lenny Tales?" she asked, her voice a low whisper that echoed in the vast emptiness surrounding them. The question hung in the air, weighty and demanding an answer. "Is Lenny Tales the sum of the things he has achieved? Or have the things he achieved made him Lenny Tales?"

The words pressed on Lenny’s mind, forcing him to confront his very essence. His heart beat unevenly as he struggled to make sense of the question. The memories—the pain, the victories, the losses—flooded back into him.

"You’ve fought battles, crossed boundaries, pushed beyond what others could endure. You’ve survived where many would have fallen," Lady Death continued, her voice like a lullaby woven with steel. "But are those things what define you? Or is it you, Lenny Tales, who defines them?"

Images flashed before his eyes: his loves, his son...Luca, what would have been the light of his life; the monastery where he trained, the relentless trials that shaped him; the dark alleyways where he shed blood for money and survival; the many faces of those who betrayed him. His journey had been long, brutal, and filled with torment. But was it the journey that made him? Or had he shaped on the road created for him. After all, he did it all...
