Chapter 128 - 128 128 The Enchanting Invitation
?Chapter 128: Chapter 128: The Enchanting Invitation Chapter 128: Chapter 128: The Enchanting Invitation Cherish Turner carefully answered the phone, adjusting her tone of voice.
“Hello.”
“It’s me.” William Griffith’s intoxication had subsided a bit at this point, leaving him with a headache. He woke up to find himself in Cherry Blossom Garden, the hazy scene from before playing out in his mind, but he couldn’t quite recall what he had said.
“Awake now?”
“Mhm.”
The conversation between the two of them sounded amusing, yet it carried a hint of warmth.
Lewis was nestled in Sam Turner’s bed, wearing a little dinosaur hat and eating fast food. Cherish stroked his head and quickly informed William, “Oh, by the way, Lewis is with me. Thomas Harrison said he was having nightmares and couldn’t reach you, so he called your phone, which ended up with me.”
“Mhm.” He responded casually, “How’s your brother? Is he feeling better?” Lying on the sofa, William tried to picture Cherish’s face as she took the call, her bright features illuminating his world, even in the darkest moments.
“Oh, he’s much better, but his foot is pretty banged up. He just needs to rest more.” Cherish answered, hoping that, by some miracle, her boss wouldn’t see or hear any of the entertainment news the next day. He wouldn’t be interested in that kind of stuff, would he?
Didn’t he only care about financial news?
But then again, Senior Yannis was his brother, so he would at least be a little concerned, right?
The thought troubled Cherish. If she had been more insistent, Senior Yannis probably wouldn’t have offered her a ride.
“What’s the matter?” William sensed that the girl on the other end of the line seemed somewhat agitated and distracted, giving him the feeling she was only half-listening. Nervous that he might have said something wrong, he asked her about her earlier visit to the ninth floor.
“I just…”
“What’s wrong?” Cherish anxiously inquired. Did he check social media or read some news?
“I got drunk earlier. You came to the ninth floor, didn’t you?”
“Oh… Yeah, I did.”
Thank goodness it wasn’t about the news; that really startled her.
William sighed, suddenly yearning to see her, and said, “I’m coming to the hospital right now. Wait for me.”
Cherish thought it best for her boss to rest and not come find her, as learning about her recent predicament might make things awkward.
“Oh, no need. I’ll be heading home soon too. With Lewis here, it’s not really convenient for me to stay. I’ll be back at Cherry Blossom Garden shortly, so don’t bother coming. You should get some rest.”
William didn’t immediately agree not to go to the hospital; he just remained silent.
Cherish hastily ended the call, afraid he might actually show up. Once Sam was asleep, she took Lewis and called a cab to go back.
Instead of returning to the eighth floor, she pressed the button for the ninth. Lewis had already fallen asleep in her arms.
Surmising that William had gone to bed since the lights were off in the room, Cherish found an empty room, tucked Lewis in, and was about to leave, but an unexpected force pinned her against the door from behind. The force was so strong that her back ached!
Before she could fully react, William’s burning lips made contact with hers without warning. The scorching temperature seemed to evaporate any semblance of rational thought left in her.
His hands slipped past her shoulders, lifting her up entirely as her legs wrapped tightly around his waist. William pressed her against the door, continuously kissing her. The sound of their heavy breathing filled her ears, transforming into intoxicating, irresistible invitations…
