Chapter 101: Orange trees

Chapter 101: Orange trees

He wished he could end the demon with this strategy, but life was not that easy.

After using it for a while the demon adapted, coming up with a solution to counter his no-touch approach.

Turn out what it had to do was prevent him from getting close to it. It tore an orange tree from the ground and used it as a weapon, swinging it at Reeva. The oranges flew around wildly as the tree slammed into Reeva’s face.

Although his body was powerful, it didn’t make him much heavier. The impact sent him flying into another tree. Reeva quickly recovered from the blow, but before he could react, another tree was already being hurled at him. He raised his arms to block it.

Mystic power surged through his body as the tree struck him, nullifying the damage.

Dealing with normal physical damage when you’re a mystic who can coat your body with mystic force isn’t effective, the mystic force, no matter how little, disperses the damage but also dissipates in the process.

Mystics are not invincible. As long as they run out of power, they can die too, but they’re much harder to kill than normal humans.

This ability, however, is reserved for those who can freely coat themselves with mystic force, like Theodore or Plutus. Most mystic users, like Theia or Onia, can’t do this. They only have their summons, which, being made from mystic energy, are resistant to normal attacks. Still, a bullet could end the fight in seconds.

A fight between demons is on equal ground since both have mystic-coated bodies and can freely move their mystic force within. However, the major difference lies in their biology and natural strength.

Demon like the white one is superior to Reeva in terms of strength and mystic force. It disregards all rationality and reason, trading them for raw power, simplifying its body and mystic force.

This is why Reeva hoped to keep using the no-touch strategy. He wouldn’t need to exert any strength or mystic power to weaken the demon. But now that the demon was using trees as weapons, approaching it became much harder.

Sure he could last here forever as his mystic force generated more than the physical damage from the trees. But remember he still has an hour before he turns back to his normal form.

Every time a tree hit him, Reeva had to expend mystic force to block it, no matter how little it took. And everything Reeva has to interact with the power, it stir trouble trying to reach his head.

Once again, Reeva found himself in a disadvantageous situation. When he tried to approach the demon, it would back away and hurl another tree at him. With the seemingly endless supply of orange trees on the farm, the demon had plenty of ammunition.

To make matters worse, the happiness inside Reeva’s body was running rampant. He had no way to calm it down, and every second, it tried to take over his body.

Reeva was fighting the demon, but it was costing him his concentration.

At that moment, help arrived in the form of a knife flying at the monster. The demon initially ignored it, but as soon as the knife struck, it dug deep into its flesh instead of bouncing off. A sign of mystic power being used.

A red thread formed, leading from the knife to a distant figure—Hilda. She used another knife to cut herself, and at that moment, the demon screamed in pain. Reeva didn’t miss the opportunity. He dashed in and delivered the most powerful punch he could muster.

Yellow mist poured out of his hand, clashing with the demon’s white mystic force. Some of the yellow mist was converted into white mystic energy, but most of it neutralized the demon’s power.

Reeva couldn’t see the white mystic force directly, but the damage left on the demon’s body said it all. The demon likely had to focus on converting other mystic powers into its own, making it vulnerable to Reeva’s attack.

"Master!" Hilda couldn’t believe what she was seeing—her rarely trained master was holding his own against a demon.

"Take this thing down!" Reeva quickly said before dashing in for another feint. The demon had to respect him again, releasing more energy to coat its body. Hilda didn’t have time for questions, she quickly coated another knife in her blood and sent it flying toward the demon.

However, this time the demon sensed the danger Hilda posed and used its tentacle to intercept the knife. Its mouth opened wide, swallowing the knife whole. Hilda’s eyes widened as she lost her blood connection to the weapon. She instinctively recognized the power at work.

"Master, is this the heretic we’re after?" she asked, her voice tense.

"One of them," Reeva replied, continuing his assault on the demon. With Hilda’s help, the battle became much easier. They took turns distracting the demon and forcing it to expend more and more of its mystic power.

Despite its seemingly invincible abilities, the white demon was quickly losing ground. Its size visibly shrank; where its main body was once the size of an adult male, it was now reduced to that of an adult female.

Reeva smiled—they were close to victory. With Hilda in the fight, the demon no longer had a chance to use the trees as weapons, as most of its tentacles were occupied defending against their combined attacks.

Reeva continued to fake his punches to drain the demon’s mystic energy, while Hilda used her agility to evade and strike whenever Reeva created an opening.

It was only a matter of time before they would wear it down completely. The demon’s instincts seemed to realize this too, and finally, as its size reduced further, it made a desperate move—it fled.

"After it!" Reeva shouted, but Hilda was already one step ahead. Her knife flew at the retreating monster, striking it in the back. She cut her arm again, causing the demon to stagger.

However, the demon didn’t stop entirely. Reeva’s concern grew as he saw it heading back toward the mansion.
