Chapter 795: Someone Else
Chapter 795: Someone Else
Night Mares were one of the fastest land creatures in the Ulier Continent. As such, the time it would have taken Adam to journey from Behal Town to Moon City was cut in half.
On this rainy day, Adam, mounted atop the majestic black horse, rested under the shade of a tree inside a grove about a hundred miles away from the city known as the Jewel of the South.
His gaze seemingly pierced the long distance and landed on the city walls.
A reminiscent look flashed in his eyes as he recalled the time he had spent with Edward and Lisa in that city. He recalled the herbalism lessons he had taken in Berger's potions shop.
He couldn't help but murmur, "Time flies."
The youth wasn't planning to come to Moon City because of the presence of Headmistress Godfrey. But now, he had no other option.
He took a deep breath and mused inwardly, Anna, I truly hope that you are alright. If not…
A ruthless glint flashed in his eyes. If her older sister had so much as a scratch on her, even he couldn't say what he might do to Headmistress Godfrey. Or to Moon City, for that matter.
Adam closed his eyes and took deep breaths, trying to calm the raging emotions bubbling in his heart.
He knew very well that anger clouded the mind and dulled the blade. He needed to be calm, cold, and ruthless in his actions.
When the raven-haired youth opened his eyes again, they were calm and indifferent.
He gently stroked Luna's mane and stated, "I cannot take you into the city with me. It would draw a lot of attention."
The Night Mare snorted in slight displeasure. But in the end, she nodded.
Adam revealed a faint smile, "Good girl."
He then hopped off of her and landed on the ground. He gently patted the horse's head and instructed, "Run anywhere you like, but do not get any closer to the city, understood?"
Luna nodded yet again, rubbing her head against Adam's face.
The youth couldn't help but chuckle lightly. He then conjured an unassuming pendant and tied it around the horse's neck.
The stone hanging from the pendant was marked by Adam's spiritual energy. He had taken inspiration from the Soulmark Lantern to create this. As long as Luna was wearing this, he would be able to track her.
Of course, there was a distance limit as well as a time limit. But it was nothing too extreme.
"Go on, now." Adam smiled. "Or do you wish for the rain to—"
He didn't even get to finish his words as Luna excitedly stood on her hind legs and sped off into the distance. Seeing this, Adam could only shake his head ever so slightly.
"She's got quite the love for running, that one," he remarked, half in awe, and half in exasperation.
Adam then turned to Valerian. "Your turn now. Don't come out until I say so."
"Okay!" Valerian's eyes gleamed with excitement, and he turned into a gray flash of light before diving into Adam's spirit sea.
And then there's this one, the youth thought to himself as he conjured a mat and placed it on the ground before sitting cross-legged on it.
I wonder what his fascination with the lotus is? Could it perhaps be related to the dragon species he belongs to?
Adam quickly cleared his mind of such thoughts, focusing instead on his current situation.
There are two Mana Vortex Magi in Moon City, he thought with a solemn expression.
The Headmistress of the Clover Academy, Helene Godfrey, and the King of the Nightingale Kingdom, Arnold Nightingale.
I'm sure that they've placed several arrangements in place that would notify them if any powerful Magus arrived in the city.
And I must not enter the city without properly disguising myself. Or else, if word of my arrival spreads in Moon City, then it will be quite troublesome for me.
The sound of raindrops splattering against the underbrush of the grove drifted into Adam's ears, involuntarily making him loosen his shoulders.
A calm and tranquil environment was highly conducive to making plans.
I have to employ magic spells to disguise myself, but the moment I do that, my mana fluctuations will alert the higher-ups in the city.
But there is one thing I can do to mitigate this problem...
Adam dove into the depths of his mind, recalling the memories of the powerful Magus he had just recently absorbed.
In the Greater Universe, the mana density was so high that it reacted with the mana contained within Magi, resulting in their mana to always radiate around them. Unlike in Tron, where Magi emitted mana only when they cast spells.
In the Greater Universe, however, the Magi would be constantly radiating mana. As such, others could always tell how strong they were just by sensing their energy fluctuations.
The Devil of Secrets knew of a technique to suppress his mana, making himself appear weaker than he was. This allowed him to lower his opponents' guards and strike them when they least expected.
It was truly an insidious and underhanded technique. But this was nothing compared to the devil's other technique that Adam had come across.
However, for now, he only needed to use the technique that suppressed his mana.
After a few minutes, he was able to disguise his mana fluctuations, making them appear no different from a Mana Foundation Magus's.
Then, he weaved a complex set of hand seals. Following that, his skin was covered in an intricate magic circle, eneveloping every inch of his skin and even his hair.
Rank 3 Spell: Alter Self!
This was an advanced version of a Rank 2 Spell of the same name. This spell granted the caster three categories of transformation.
The first allowed the body to adapt to aquatic environments, helping the caster to sprout gills and webbing between their fingers.
The second category allowed them to transform their body parts into weapons. They could grow claws, fangs, horns, or any natural weapon of their choice.
The final category allowed the caster to transform their appearance completely. The caster could decide what they looked like, including altering their height, weight, facial features, sound of their voice, and other distinguishing characteristics.
And that… was exactly what Adam needed at the moment.
By the time the effects of this spell had taken place, he was no longer the person he used to look like.
Now, he looked completely different.
He had become someone else!
