Modern World Warlock

Chapter 267: Sami’s Worries

Chapter 267: Sami’s Worries

A few days after the meeting with the Azure Rebels, the different mafia factions were training at the Jade Palace.

Dante was making his way to the lab when he saw Sami walking by and noticed that the cyborg seemed to be worried about something based on the shape of her umbra.

"Hey, Sami. Are you okay?" Dante casually asked.

"Eh? Oh—yes!" Sami replied, prompting the warlock to raise an eyebrow with suspicion.

"You know I can see you are lying, right?" Dante commented.

Sami bit her lips and shook her hands nervously, explaining that she wasn't sure why she was feeling down.

As someone who was new to feeling different emotions, she couldn't recognize the origin of some of them since she had never felt them before.

"It's called 'concern.' When did you start feeling like that?" Dante pondered, wanting to get to the bottom of her emotions.

"Umm, after the meeting with my ex-bosses…" Sami replied, analyzing her memories.

"Are you worried about Sixteen?" Dante continued asking, and Sami's umbra fluctuated a bit.

"I… Think so," the cyborg said.

Dante deduced that Sami felt solidarity for Sixteen, considering she had started as an android herself.

"When I saw she blocked her emotional program… It felt like a sting," Sami continued.

Still, there was nothing that the warlock could do for her. Even if he gave Sixteen a blank demon's soul as he did to Sami, all of those negative emotions would be the first thing she felt.

Suddenly, something came to Dante's mind that could potentially give Sami a bit more determination.

"Look… Remember how we said that Netherius was holding hostage the souls of dead people?" The warlock asked.

"Right…"

"Well, what if we could find Lexia's soul? If Sixteen realizes that she can still complete her mission, she could continue developing her emotions… Probably," Dante commented, though he sounded a bit unsure.

"Is that even possible?" Sami wondered.

The warlock explained that the necrotic core that Sami had destroyed worked similarly to a "soulstone," which were small crystal orbs that could hold a soul inside.

Dante could create soulstones out of demons, and use those soulstones as he pleased. Either absorbing their power, giving it to someone else, placing them in another body, etcetera.

However, the warlock couldn't manipulate the souls of humans, so his only option to save the souls inside the stones was to destroy them, allowing the spirits to return to the flow of death.

"I understand. So, if Netherius has a soulstone with Lexia in it, we can destroy it and free her!" Sami exclaimed.

'Easier said than done…' Dante thought, but he didn't say it aloud as it would decrease Sami's motivation.

Moreover, he wasn't sure if freeing Lexia's soul from her prison would be enough to make Sixteen delete the line of code that was holding all of her emotions back.

After the two of them had discussed the plan, they made their way to the MET room, where people were training, and found Lindsey and Megan inside.

The two women were sparring, and Megan noticed how much Lindsey's power had grown since the last time they practiced.

Lindsey, who was an elementalist, could control the four basic elements and use them to attack or defend herself without chanting any spells.

During her sparring session with Megan, the blonde waved her hands to create wind slices that traveled directly at her opponent. However, Megan was able to avoid the invisible slashes, comparing them to Dante's "Rapture" spell.

While "Rapture" could easily slice a person in half by their torso, Lindsey's wind slices didn't have that much power behind them, but Megan didn't know if Lindsey was holding back or if that was the extent of her powers.

"Lindsey, pour out everything you got," Megan said.

"A-are you sure!?" Lindsey pondered, not wanting to hurt Megan badly.

"It's fine. I'll stop everything if it gets too dangerous," Dante interjected, making Megan smirk.

After Lindsey took a deep breath, her eyes seemed to shine for a brief moment as a flame lit up on her palm, clasping her hands together and releasing a gust of wind and fire that began to swirl in the center of the MET room, generating a fire tornado.

Fortunately, the MET room was expansive, so Megan still had space to move around.

As the brunette rushed and circled around the flames, she spotted Lindsey and increased her speed to catch up to her. Nevertheless, the blonde saw her advance and waved her hand, unleashing a powerful wind blast.

Megan was pushed against a wall, but before she could crash with her back, she managed to turn and land with her feet, using the wall to propel herself towards Lindsey at high speeds.

Lindsey tried sliding her fire tornado in front of her to protect herself, but when Megan took out her dagger and sliced it horizontally, the blonde could see a line appearing in the middle of the tornado that split it in half.

From the other side of the tornado, Megan appeared and caught Lindsey's shoulders before pinning her down.

"You've improved a lot," Megan said, still sitting on top of Lindsey.

*Sigh* "Thanks… I still can't land a good hit, though," the blonde replied with a slight smile on her face.

"Hmm, you think so?" Megan asked, looking down at the side of her torso that had a bit of blood.

"Wh-what is that!?" Lindsey exclaimed, sitting up with evident concern on her face.

"It's just a scratch… My point is that your attack did land," Megan continued, prompting Lindsey to grit her teeth.

"Can we get a medic!? Helloooo?!" The blonde shouted.

As Dante calmly entered the room and gave Megan a healthstone to heal herself, they peeked at the supposed "scratch" on her ribs, and it was more like a blade wound.

"Just a scratch, you said!" Lindsey exclaimed with a pout.

Seeing the two women interacting made Dante scoff with a chuckle, as they were both completely different, but he could sense that they still had a lot of similarities.
