Modern World Warlock

Chapter 268: Death Knights’ Summoning

Chapter 268: Death Knights’ Summoning

In the city of Limsa, on the western side of Novaria, Netherius and Wolfram were overlooking the expanding necropolis from the top of a skyscraper.

The once-vibrant city was becoming a dark wasteland, its buildings ensnared by creeping tendrils of black and green corruption.

The structure's surfaces had a slick black substance that pulsed with an eerie green light, releasing a gas with a stench of decay that made the air feel heavy.

"Well, I hope you are satisfied… Even the government will be looking for us now," Wolfram said. His tone sounded sarcastic, but his expression was severe as he looked down at the corruption eating the city away.

"I'm not worried about some ants. This world is mostly ignorant of our powers…" Netherius replied with a slight smile on his face.

"Besides, do you think ordinary humans have a chance against my dearest subordinates?" he continued, glancing at Wolfram.

The wizard shrugged with disinterest, and as he turned around, he placed his attention on the summoning circle that had been arranged on the building's rooftop, made with what seemed like bones and human body parts.

"It took me some time, but my precious Death Knights are ready," Netherius commented, approaching the summoning circle and kneeling down before it.

As the necromancer's hands touched the rim of the circle, a violent torrent of shadowy, eerie energy began to flow out of it, generating the figure of a humanoid body in the center.

When the shadows dispersed, a tall woman, fully clad in black armor, was standing in the middle of the necrotic circle.

There was no visible part of her body as it was entirely covered with the black alloy, which produced a constant dark aura that resembled smoke. Her black helm was slick and was covered by a long hooded cape that trailed down her back.

"Welcome, Vesnia…" Netherius said with a cheeky smile.

"Hmm… Master?" The armored woman asked with a raspy voice as if she had been smoking for fifty years.

After Vesnia stepped out of the necrotic circle, Netherius continued bringing more of his subordinates to life.

His necrotic circle was feeding itself from the souls of the people living in Limsa who were caught in the corruption of his necropolis. Since modern cities were much more condensed in population, he had gathered enough energy to bring his most precious Death Knights to Earth.

"How many more are you planning on summoning?" Wolfram inquired.

Netherius placed a hand on his chin and took a quick glance at his surroundings, feeling the necrotic energy flowing in the air. "Hah… Around four or five," he replied, grinning evilly.

Placing his hands on the rim of the necrotic circle once more, Netherius produced another humanoid figure that began to appear in the center. However, compared to Vesnia, this one looked much more burly in size.

The Death Knight was wearing heavy armor with a light gray color that looked almost pearl white. His helm had four prongs extruding from it, resembling a crown, and the carved symbols on his armor represented the "Pantheon of Four."

Wolfram seemed surprised after seeing the newcomer and approached the necrotic circle with curiosity, wanting to get a closer look.

"Come to me… Isidor!" Netherius exclaimed.

"Huh… A Holy Knight in the service of a necromancer—Very impressive," Wolfram praised Netherius.

As Isidor inspected his body, he bowed politely to Netherius. Even though the necromancer was quite tall and robust in Darius' body, Isidor still towered over his master.

"Master… I didn't think I would ever get called again," Isidor commented, his deep voice slightly soothing, which contrasted with his intimidating look.

After stepping out of the necrotic circle and standing beside Vesnia, Netherius continued with the next summoning, placing his hands on the rim of the circle.

As the eerie shadows gathered in the center, a slim but tall figure of a man began to appear. Compared to the two previous Death Knights, this one wasn't wearing any armor— His body was covered entirely with bandages, including his face and eyes.

"Udras, the warlock!" Netherius exclaimed.

Udras didn't speak a word, but that didn't mean that he wasn't on the same level as the other Death Knights.

As the fully bandaged man moved his neck to the sides, seemingly scanning his surroundings, he bowed politely toward Netherius and stepped out of the circle without saying a word.

Once again, Netherius continued with the next summoning, and as soon as the shadows began to accumulate in the center, a loud battle cry could be heard from the Death Knight that was to come.

"RAAAARRGH!" The voice of the Death Knight roared loudly as his body began materializing.

"Hah, noisy as ever… Arise, Saturio, the barbarian warrior!" Netherius exclaimed with a grin.

The warrior wasn't wearing any heavy armor. Instead, he had a large shoulder plate held together with a thick leather strap across his chest. His short pants seemed to be made of obsidian hide and were secured with a wide belt.

His complexion was pale with a hint of gray, and his eyes shined with a teal hue, which was the most common feature of the undead.

"RAAARGH, MASTER!" Saturio shouted, his voice loudly echoing.

"Who will be my contender? I'm itching for a battle!" the undead barbarian continued.

"There'll be plenty of contenders soon. Do not worry, my knight," Netherius replied, grinning widely as he had enough energy to bring an additional Death Knight to his service.

As Saturio stood aside, the necromancer moved on to his final summon for the day, placing his hands on the rim of the circle.

Compared to all the other Death Knights, the last one materializing seemed to have a skeletal body covered with a long, hooded black robe, holding a staff in his hands.

"A wizard…?" Wolfram inquired.

"Hah, not just any wizard…" Netherius muttered.

"The Netherlord, Radeon!" he continued.

"Master… What is this place? This mana… I don't recognize it," said the tall skeleton.

With five of his strongest Death Knights at his disposal, Netherius brought them to his residence in Limsa, which was the place where the necropolis' corruption had originated.

"I'll explain everything to you in detail… There are still a few more things I need to take care of," Netherius said to his group, leaving the rooftop of the corrupted skyscraper.
