Chapter 14 - 14 14 Just What Hes Like
?Chapter 14: Chapter 14 Just What He’s Like Chapter 14: Chapter 14 Just What He’s Like Bo Mu screamed, struggling to escape, but was firmly controlled by Lu Jingyan.
“Lu Jingyan, are you sick? Let go of me.”
Lu Jingyan increased the strength of his grip, Bo Mu’s expression twisted in pain until she could no longer speak, and then Lu Jingyan lowered his head, drawing near her ear, “What right do you have to mention the past in front of me? To me, the you from before are nothing more than a dog I bought to play with.”
“What? Now that you’ve become an artist, you think you can bark at me? Do you want me to tell your fans online about how you tried to please me for a pencil case I didn’t even care about?”
…
Originally thinking he could have a nice lunch with Sheng Xian, Lu Jingyan was in a rather good mood, but now it was all ruined by Bo Mu.
Lu Jingyan really didn’t know what bad luck he had run into these past few days, always encountering such annoying matters.
He was acutely aware that Bo Mu’s words were deliberately aimed at hurting him, and taking them to heart would play right into her hands.
But once he returned to his car, closed the door, in the quiet and confined space, Bo Mu’s words, like a spell, kept drilling into his ears repeatedly, incessantly.
“No one really likes you… everyone hates you… including Sheng Xian…”
Lu Jingyan smashed his fist onto the steering wheel heavily.
“Damn.”
After all these years, why was that wretched girl still so annoying?
He just shouldn’t have let her off so easily earlier, he should have slapped her hard a few times to teach her how to speak properly.
Lu Jingyan didn’t usually have a strong craving for cigarettes, but he would smoke like mad whenever he was upset.
He rolled down the window, held a cigarette, and searched his bag single-handedly for what seemed like forever, but couldn’t find his lighter.
He probably lost it when he was grabbing Bo Mu’s hair earlier.
Already irritated and lacking patience, Lu Jingyan got out of the car to look around for a bit without success, so he just gave up on the lighter worth more than ten thousand and headed straight for the college convenience store instead.
Choosing a cheap lighter at the store, Lu Jingyan pushed open the door and walked out.
Turning to a deserted corner, he was about to light his cigarette when an unintentional glance up through the glass in front of him revealed someone sitting in the cafeteria.
It was past the lunch peak, and there weren’t many people in the school cafeteria.
Sheng Xian sat alone at a large table by the edge, having his meal.
Sheng Xian really had a commendable presence; he made a simple cafeteria meal feel like it’s from a Michelin-starred restaurant.
Lu Jingyan watched for a while, took the cigarette from his lips, and tossed it into the nearby bin along with the new lighter he’d just bought and hadn’t used yet.
Over the years, he had always wanted to quit smoking, but never managed to do so.
But just now, he suddenly lost the urge to smoke.
It was clear that he wasn’t the only one coveting Sheng Xian’s looks.
Quite a few girls in the cafeteria were secretly taking photos of him with their phones, and some who had finished their meals deliberately walked past his table on their way out.
Confronted with the girls passing by now and then, Sheng Xian was impressively indifferent.
Lu Jingyan wasn’t sure if he was used to it, or if it was just an innate ability to show off.
Suddenly, Lu Jingyan felt like laughing.
If possible, he really wanted to hide and enjoy watching Sheng Xian eat for a while longer, but too bad, his meal was already half-eaten, and if he didn’t go in now, Sheng Xian would have finished.
Lu Jingyan wasn’t sure if Sheng Xian was completely indifferent to his surroundings, but as he walked straight towards him, Sheng Xian didn’t even lift his head once.
Not until he sat opposite him did Sheng Xian finally look up, but he coldly said, “No sharing tables.”
Lu Jingyan: “…”
Was he such a paragon of purity?
It was probably the first time Sheng Xian had explicitly refused someone and they didn’t leave; Sheng Xian lifted his eyelids unenthusiastically.
Upon seeing Lu Jingyan, he paused, his tone was very subdued, “What are you doing here?”
Lu Jingyan was straightforward: “I wanted to see you.”
Sheng Xian: “…”
Three seconds later, Sheng Xian ignored her as if she didn’t exist and continued eating.
Lu Jingyan, propping his chin, admired his face from a close distance, “I’m hungry.”
Sheng Xian pretended not to hear.
Lu Jingyan said, “I want to eat the same meal as you.”
Sheng Xian remained unmoved.
Lu Jingyan didn’t get angry, “But I don’t have a meal card.”
Sheng Xian paused for a brief moment.
Without the meal card from Sheng Xian, she couldn’t just snatch it, could she?
Lu Jingyan turned his head around and happened to catch a guy secretly looking at her.
She winked at the guy, who blushed and bowed his head to focus on his meal.
Lu Jingyan smiled, “Hey, little brother, the one in the blue clothes.”
The guy, who was eating with his head down, looked up joyfully, incredulous, pointing at himself, “Me?”
Lu Jingyan, with her eyes curved, nodded, “Could you do me a favor?”
The guy stuttered excitedly, “Yes, what… what do you need help with?”
“I’d like to borrow your meal card for a moment, I’ll transfer the money to you—” Lu Jingyan started to search for her phone, but when she felt three cold coins, she realized she had forgotten her wallet and phone when she got off to buy a lighter. She was completely relying on the five yuan she had found in her pocket.
After buying the lighter, she was left with three yuan.
The embarrassment of having no money was a new sensation for Miss Lu, who abruptly halted what she was about to say.
Unaware of her thoughts, the guy asked eagerly, “The money… Don’t worry about the money, what… what would you like to eat? I’ll… I’ll go buy it for you.”
Lu Jingyan pointed at Sheng Xian’s plate, “Just like his.”
The guy rushed to the serving window, and in less than five minutes, he brought back a meal identical to Sheng Xian’s and set it down in front of Lu Jingyan.
“Thank you.” Lu Jingyan felt she couldn’t take advantage of the boy’s generosity, “Which class are you from? I’ll bring the money to you later.”
The guy waved his hand, “Don’t worry about it, really, don’t, I said it’s my treat.”
The guy insisted on not taking the money, and Lu Jingyan wasn’t going to argue, “Well, thank you then.”
When the guy sat back down, Lu Jingyan started eating with her spoon.
Sheng Xian seemed to be busy with something and had barely touched his food, constantly tapping on his phone.
Lu Jingyan didn’t disturb him. She silently ate her meal across from him. She didn’t have a big appetite and was full after eating only a little.
She put down her spoon, wiped the corners of her mouth with a napkin, and looked up at Sheng Xian across from her. She noticed he had put his phone aside and started to eat with his chopsticks.
He didn’t eat much this time either and soon got up with his plate and walked towards the dishwashing area.
Lu Jingyan followed Sheng Xian out of the cafeteria, down to the academic building, and didn’t mind whether he paid attention to her, saying one-sidedly, “Goodbye.”
Then she walked toward the parking lot.
…
After returning to the office, Sheng Xian opened a drawer, rummaged through it for some change, stuffed it into his pocket, and told his teaching assistant, “I’m going out for a bit, you take over the class for me.”
After leaving the academic building, Sheng Xian walked towards the dormitory building behind it.
He reported a student’s name and department at the duty room on the first floor, received the dorm number, and climbed the stairs.
Following the numbers on the dorm doors, he found room 502. Before he could knock, he heard the noise from playing video games inside.
He knocked three times on the door before someone opened it with impatience.
Standing at the doorway, he scanned the room and located the young man sitting in the back with black headphones. He walked over and gently tapped on the table.
The young man looked up, saw him, and hurriedly took off his headphones, “Professor Sheng, what can I do for you?”
Sheng Xian nodded indifferently and laid the change from his pocket onto the young man’s keyboard, “It’s from her.”
