Chapter 36 - 36 36 White Moonlight
?Chapter 36: Chapter 36: White Moonlight Chapter 36: Chapter 36: White Moonlight Long, long ago, he knew a girl.
He had tried to use words to describe her, he scoured the dictionary for all the words of praise, but still couldn’t capture her essence.
She was beautiful and elegant, played the piano masterfully, and danced with grace, especially her eyes—pure and clean like the untouched springs atop mountains.
When she crossed overpasses and encountered beggars, she would stop with a smile and give them money, in the rain she would ask the driver to stop the car and help an old man push his vendor cart, and on the weekends she would volunteer at the welfare home.
Back then, her gaze was warm, and she always spoke to everyone with a smile and politeness.
There was not a single flaw to be found on her.
All the boys called her a goddess.
And he called her.
Moonlight.
Lu Jingyan was stunned for a while before responding, “What do you mean?”
Sheng Xian’s Adam’s apple slid up and down, but he didn’t speak.
Lu Jingyan asked again, “Did you know me before? How long ago?”
Sheng Xian stared at Lu Jingyan, his lips moved but he didn’t take up her question, after pausing for several seconds, he simply said, “Forget it, as if I never looked for you.”
Having said that, he didn’t linger for a moment and turned around and left.
Lu Jingyan watched his retreating figure, hesitated for a bit, and didn’t get out of the car.
When she got home and had just put down her luggage, Lu Hongcheng’s call came through.
Lu Jingyan let the phone ring for a long time before picking it up.
Before she could say anything, Lu Hongcheng snapped, “I’ve been calling for so long, why did you only just answer?”
Lu Jingyan closed her eyes briefly, trying to steady her tone, “I was just in the restroom.”
Lu Hongcheng didn’t scold her further for this, but his tone was no less unpleasant, “Don’t forget the dinner with Young Master Yang tonight, remember to treat him well when you see him. I’ve already come up with an excuse for you, saying that last time was an accident, don’t mess it up for me this time.”
Lu Jingyan, who had heard such words countless times over the years, responded indifferently while keeping her eyelids drooped, “Mm.”
Lu Hongcheng probably had things to attend to on his side and didn’t waste more words with her, hanging up the phone promptly.
Lu Jingyan put down her phone and lay on her bed in a trance for a while, suddenly recalling what Sheng Xian had said.
She counted on her fingers and figured that Sheng Xian was either her age, or just a year older.
Could he have been a classmate of hers?
Lu Jingyan got up and ran to the study, rifling through boxes and drawers for quite some time, she turned out all the group photos from her school days,
From elementary to high school, she checked each one, but couldn’t find Sheng Xian among her classmates.
There were quite a few boys who pursued her during her school days, and several seniors showed interest in her as well.
She of course couldn’t remember them all, but based on Sheng Xian’s current looks, he must have been quite a standout back then, the kind that would be the school heartthrob, she couldn’t possibly have no memory of him.
Lu Jingyan racked her brains for a long time but couldn’t find any person or event in her memory that related to Sheng Xian.
The dinner arranged by Lu Hongcheng was at six o’clock in the evening, and Lu Jingyan didn’t have much time to dwell on this matter. She could only put away the photo albums and return to her room to quickly get ready before leaving the house.
The dinner wasn’t as torturous as Lu Jingyan had imagined, mostly Lu Hongcheng and the Mr. Yang he mentioned were chatting.
Apart from being forced by Lu Hongcheng to pour two glasses of wine for Mr. Yang, she was mostly uninvolved.
Near the end of the dinner, Lu Hongcheng suggested that Lu Jingyan and Mr. Yang add each other as WeChat friends.
Lu Jingyan handed over her phone’s QR code and let Mr. Yang scan it himself.
She soon received a friend request, but she didn’t accept it; however, she did catch a glimpse of Mr. Yang’s name – Yang Xu.
Both Lu Hongcheng and Lu Jingyan had drunk a little, and upon leaving the restaurant, Lu Hongcheng suggested that Lu Jingyan ride in his car.
Lu Jingyan didn’t refuse, she gave an indifferent wave to Yang Xu and then hopped into the car first.
Lu Hongcheng and Yang Xu chattered at the restaurant entrance for nearly ten minutes before getting into the car.
Lu Jingyan said nothing, counting silently in her heart.
When she reached ten, Lu Hongcheng indeed spoke up, “Xiaoyan, you’re not getting any younger, it’s time to settle down, stop being so willful.”
Lu Jingyan watched the night scenery speeding by outside the car window, only half listening to Lu Hongcheng’s words.
She wasn’t quite sure what Lu Hongcheng was specifically saying, but she just felt a noise in her ears, a noise that was agitating her greatly.
Lu Hongcheng: “Young Master Yang is really a great catch, he agreed to meet you because of the Lu Family’s face, many girls are vying for him, you need to seize the opportunity, especially with your innate qualities, you’re beautiful with a good family background, which gives you much more of an edge than the other girls. And your second brother has a project that needs Young Master Yang’s support, so you better maintain a good relationship with Young Master Yang no matter what…”
