?Chapter 42: Chapter 42 Open your mouth Chapter 42: Chapter 42 Open your mouth Waiter: “…”

Sheng Xian: “…”

Lu Jingyan: “…”

Three seconds later, with an expressionless face, Sheng Xian walked past the waiter and entered the bar.

Lu Jingyan stood in place for a second before also entering.

The bar was not located in as good a district as the previous sake bar, and though it was Christmas, the crowd was scant because it wasn’t the weekend.

Sheng Xian, who entered first, picked a spot and sat down first.

Lu Jingyan wasn’t quite sure about the atmosphere between her and Sheng Xian at the moment. Their last argument didn’t feel like one, and their reconciliation also didn’t feel like one. She hesitated before deciding to walk past Sheng Xian, intending to take an empty seat further inside.

As she walked straight ahead without looking sideways, she felt a slight tugging force when she passed by Sheng Xian.

She paused and looked down.

Her bag’s chain was hooked by Sheng Xian with a finger.

Utterly, his hand was really beautiful, fingers long and well-defined, nails neatly trimmed and clean.

Lu Jingyan stared at it for a few more moments before following his hand upward with her eyes, landing on his face.

His face was void of expression, and upon meeting her gaze, he spoke in a voice as bland as boiled water, “Just sit here.”

Lu Jingyan didn’t expect him to say that and was taken aback, “Huh?”

Sheng Xian moved over a bit, “Sit.”

Lu Jingyan was silent for two seconds before sitting down beside Sheng Xian.

The waiter brought the drink menu over promptly.

Lu Jingyan, like at the previous sake bar, ordered a cocktail with a low alcohol content and passed the menu to Sheng Xian.

Since Sheng Xian was driving, he quickly glanced at the menu and ordered a non-alcoholic soda water.

After the waiter left with the menu, Sheng Xian lowered his head to start on his phone.

Seeing that he wasn’t initiating conversation with her, Lu Jingyan also took out her phone and started scrolling through it.

Compared to Sheng Xian’s focused demeanor, Lu Jingyan seemed somewhat distracted, her thoughts constantly drifting to the man beside her.

What was he implying?

Originally, he was just waiting for someone, and upon bumping into her, not only did he stop waiting, he also followed her to the bar.

She felt the incident in the underground parking lot was quite unpleasant, but he acted as if nothing had happened.

Could it be that he didn’t take it to heart at all, and she had been the only one brooding over it all this time?

After finishing his message, Sheng Xian glanced at the person next to him.

She was resting her chin in her hand, staring straight ahead without blinking.

Sheng Xian followed her gaze, where several young guys were sitting, one of them biting a cigarette while trying to light it.

Sheng Xian glanced at Lu Jingyan again, noticing that she was intently looking at the burning cigarette.

The puzzled Lu Jingyan licked her lips.

Sheng Xian lifted his eyelids, gazing at the smoke swirling around the young guy’s fingertips for a moment, as if having thought of something, he reached into his pocket and fished out a candy.

It was Christmas, and people had been handing out candies at school, some of which he casually stuffed into his pocket.

He extended the candy he had taken out towards Lu Jingyan, “Here.”

The preoccupied Lu Jingyan didn’t react.

Seeing her motionless, Sheng Xian unwrapped the candy paper and held the candy to her lips, “Open your mouth.”

Deep in thought, Lu Jingyan looked at the candy suddenly presented by Sheng Xian, slightly puzzled, and opened her mouth hesitantly.

The next second, the candy was pushed into her mouth by Sheng Xian.

The overwhelmingly sweet taste instantly filled his entire mouth.

Lu Jingyan instinctively opened his mouth to spit it out, when Sheng Xian suddenly offered him a few more candies, “Quit smoking.”

His tone was very light, just like usual, without any mix of emotions, “If you really feel like smoking, eat a candy instead.”

Lu Jingyan was stunned and stopped the action of spitting out the candy.

It took her several seconds to realize that the person sitting opposite her was smoking, and Sheng Xian must have thought that her nicotine craving was kicking in, so he gave her a piece of candy.

Lu Jingyan moved her lips, the sickening sweetness of the candy spreading from the tip of her tongue, and she, who didn’t usually like things that were too sweet, suddenly felt as though she could accept this level of sweetness.

The drinks were served by the waiter, and Lu Jingyan took a sip, then tilted her head and asked, “Is this your new trick?”

“Hm?”

“Your new trick for getting me to be a witness.”

Sheng Xian: “…No.”

After a few seconds, Sheng Xian added, “The party involved found new evidence.”

Lu Jingyan paused in her drinking, uttering an expressionless “Oh.”

Neither of them spoke.

Lu Jingyan thought they would sit in silence like strangers until it was time to leave.

What she didn’t expect was that after about ten minutes, Sheng Xian asked, “Did something happen to you in the past?”

Lu Jingyan hadn’t expected Sheng Xian to ask such a question, she lowered her head to look at the pale pink cocktail in her glass, and after a moment of silence, she turned her head with a curved brow and eyes, “No, what could have happened to me?”

Sheng Xian quietly watched Lu Jingyan without a word.

Lu Jingyan blinked, “Oh, and I wanted to ask you, did you really know me before?”

“Yeah.”

“When was this? During school? How did we know each other?”

Lu Jingyan bombarded him with several questions with an inquisitive face, Sheng Xian glanced away, “Forgot.”

“…”

Well played.

If you don’t want to say, then don’t. Pretending to have forgotten, who are you fooling?

Lu Jingyan drank her drink with an impassive face.

She had been troubled by this matter for a while now, she had scoured through all her memories and had not found even a shadow of him, and there was no information about him at any of the schools she had attended.

None of this was important; what was important was that when she asked him, he wasn’t willing to tell her.

He made it seem so mysterious, like playing a game of hide-and-seek.

The more she couldn’t find the answer, the more curious Lu Jingyan became, like being scratched by a cat.

While she was agonizing over it here, Sheng Xian on the other hand, was unbelievably calm, pinching his glass and leisurely sipping his soda water, both relaxed and composed.

Lu Jingyan pursed her lips, and couldn’t help but let her gaze fall on him again.

This man was truly exquisite in every aspect.

So perfect she couldn’t pick out a single flaw.

As if he were crafted by hand…

Lu Jingyan blinked, and blinked again, then as if something had just occurred to her, she slowly leaned her head closer to Sheng Xian.

“Did you get plastic surgery?”

He must have had surgery, such a huge change, and that’s why she couldn’t recognize who he was.

Lu Jingyan studied Sheng Xian’s face carefully, “Where did you have it done? The work is pretty good, not a scar left.”
