Chapter 41 - 41 41 Wheres the Drink Money
?Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Where’s the Drink Money? Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Where’s the Drink Money? Lu Jingyan let out a sigh of relief in secret, as Sheng Xian didn’t take her money. Her hand, awkwardly extended for a while, tangled with indecision. She silently withdrew it, then stuffed the money back into her bag.
There was no music playing in the car, and the silence was almost excessive.
Sheng Xian was staring straight ahead as if she didn’t exist, showing no intention at all of starting a conversation.
Lu Jingyan hadn’t expected to run into him here, but not talking after doing so would be really weird.
She wasn’t looking for him, but had stumbled into his car by accident. After thinking it over for a while, Lu Jingyan felt that since she had initiated the situation, she should be the one to break the silence, “I didn’t expect to bump into you here.”
Sheng Xian didn’t respond.
Lu Jingyan felt embarrassed when her words went unanswered, and the ensuing silence made her feel like she had lost face. She continued on her own, “It’s quite the coincidence. I was just about to leave, and your car happened to be parked at the roadside. If it had been two minutes earlier or later, we wouldn’t have run into each other.”
As she said this, Lu Jingyan thought about the incident where she had hit someone, “You… just got here, right?”
Sheng Xian responded indifferently, “No.”
“…”
Lu Jingyan felt a pang in her heart.
No?
He couldn’t possibly have witnessed her getting into a fight again, could he?
It was as if Sheng Xian guessed what she was thinking, “I’ve been here quite a while, saw you enter the bar, and also saw you leave.”
Lu Jingyan: “…”
His implication was that he didn’t just witness her fighting, but he also saw the entire lead-up and aftermath of it.
Lu Jingyan felt that Sheng Xian didn’t need to tell her the details so explicitly; at this moment, she would have preferred to hear a lie.
Lu Jingyan sighed, turned to look out the window, and noticed the car had already traveled quite a distance, passing more than one intersection. She said hastily, “Um… you can drop me off anywhere.”
Sheng Xian glanced at her through the rearview mirror, “Where do you want to go?”
Lu Jingyan checked the time on her phone and, not wanting to go home just yet, peered out the glass, scanning the roadside, “Take the next left, there’s a bar. I’ll go there.”
Sheng Xian fell silent again.
As they took the left turn, they hit a red light that lasted sixty seconds.
Lu Jingyan, recalling how Sheng Xian had waited outside the previous bar for over forty minutes, curiously asked, “What were you doing waiting there for so long? Meeting someone?”
Sheng Xian responded with a perfunctory “Hmm.”
Lu Jingyan felt somewhat embarrassed, “Then you might as well turn back under the bridge and return. I can get off here; it’s not far, I can just walk to my destination.”
The red light turned green just in time.
Sheng Xian, without a word, steered the wheel left.
Lu Jingyan made a sound of surprise, “Hey, you really don’t have to drop me off. You go wait for your person—”
“Not waiting anymore,” Sheng Xian said coolly, cutting off her words.
Lu Jingyan felt this was his private matter, and she seemed to have no right to interfere. She moved her lips but eventually closed her mouth.
The road was almost empty; within two minutes, the car arrived at the bar Lu Jingyan had mentioned.
When Sheng Xian parked the car by the roadside, Lu Jingyan courteously said thanks, gathered her things, and pushed open the car door.
Sheng Xian turned off the engine, unbuckled his seatbelt, and also got out of the car.
Lu Jingyan, thinking he might be looking for a restroom, considerately pointed to a nearby KFC, “This bar doesn’t have a restroom; the KFC next door does, on the second floor.”
Sheng Xian stood still.
Lu Jingyan pondered for two seconds, then fished out a pack of tissues from her bag, “For you?”
Sheng Xian stared at the tissues in her hand for two seconds, then lifted his eyelids, “What about the money for the drinks?”
“Huh?” Lu Jingyan took a moment to react, recalling the money she had offered earlier for drinks.
He really wants her money!
Lu Jingyan silently rolled her eyes, pulled out the money from her bag, and handed it to Sheng Xian, “Here, take it.”
Sheng Xian glanced at the money she was holding out but didn’t accept it, “Let’s go.”
After that, Sheng Xian headed for the bar.
“…”
Let’s go?
Lu Jingyan watched Sheng Xian’s retreating figure, paused for a moment, then followed him.
Sheng Xian opened the door and waited for her to enter before he followed.
The server greeted them enthusiastically, “For two?”
Sheng Xian gave a noncommittal “Hmm.”
Lu Jingyan said, “No.”
